How Much Money Do You Need To Open A Chase Bank Account In Los Angeles

Chase Bank-External Accounts?

I do contract labor and have had some issues with a job paying (bad checks), so I told them to deposit a check into my checking account with Chase today immediately in order to not have any problems.

I gave them my checking account, but right away remembered that now with Chase all routing numbers are the same for each state and am concerned. The credit on my account came through as a bank transfer from their checking account with chase so...

does this mean she added me as an external account on her account page with Chase because she had my account number and already knew the Chase routing number...? If so, does this now mean that she can access/see my account balance, activity, etc?

Or, is there another way to transfer between two accounts at the same bank online (I'm assuming a transfer can only be an online option) without adding that account as an external?

Perhaps she just considered it a bill pay and added me as a payee..? But is that even possible with me being an individual person and not a business?

Also, by having my checking account and knowing the routing number does this mean she can somehow withdraw or pay things online using my account?

Any and All advice would be greatly appreciated. I just don't trust these people and I feel I made a foolish mistake by giving them my account number out of fear of not getting paid. I have worked jobs for a few months with them and this is the first time I've had an issue but I find it concerning that they have been so rude about getting me my payment after their check failed...

Can banks see your other bank accounts?

In the US, while they cannot see your individual transactions in accounts held at a different bank, they generally can see that you have an account there. The vast majority of banks in the US subscribe to one of several specialized credit rating services such as Chex Systems. Almost every time you apply for a new account at a bank of credit union, the bank you apply at will check your record at one or more of these services leaving behind an “inquiry” that remans visible to any other bank which views your report. If you have an account at, say, Chase Bank and later open an account at, say, Bank of America, Chase will be able to view your report at one or all of the specialized ratings services and see the “inquiry” from Bank of America. In fact, the services specifically sell a service to notify each bank you do business with any time a new “inquiry” appears. So, in the example I gave, Chase would have a pretty good indication you are likely to have an account at Bank of America.I should add, Chex Systems also gets reports from certain check printers every time you order checks and lists this on your report. Other banks you do business with can see this. If you bounce a check, this is reported. So are new ATM cards issued, usually.

Can illegal immigrants open a checking account at Chase with their ID and passport from the country their from?

What are the criteria for opening a US bank account for a non-citizen?

For regular checking/savings account, a Tax Number is not required for opening an account. Most US chartered banks require the following:A valid ID (for foreigners, this is clearly the passport). They will make copies of it, as well as the Visa &/or Arrival Stamp page. Some and I stress some, may scan the whole passport. They will ask you for a secondary identification (it can be a credit card, driver's license, debit card, ATM card, any other form of identification). Some banks can request for a picture based second form of identification only, but passport is usually good enough.A local address is required and you will have to provide some form of a bill, etc. attesting that to the fact that that is your local address. If you are forwarding email to a friend, etc. They can ask you for your friend's proof of residence to that address.Proof of funds (if depositing cash in large amounts).Proof of funds if you are wiring funds in.They will check their own internal KYC list to see if anything else is requiredThey will confer this with their manager or supervisor (most US banks will do the 4-eyes, i.e. two people signing off on the account opening OK).If you are legally staying in the US for extended period of time (like student, etc.) a copy of your I-20 etc. would be requiredIf you happen to be from a few countries of interest (essentially any Arabic, Muslim country, etc.) you will be subjected to a more thorough examination of your documentation (this is the silent rule, as much as you may deny that it doesn't happen). That's about it.

Which bank is the best for an international student in Los Angeles?

Union Bank is by far the best. Because it is a Japanese bank it is already international (unlike the other recommendations). They have lower fees for international wires and transactions. Citibank is exorbitantly expensive for fees as is Chase. Union Bank has international accounts that allow you make/accept money wires frequently and automatically with less red tape than Citibank. I used to export automobiles internationally and Citibank was expensive and slow because the have little office staff to talk to and so much red tape. With Union Bank that was easy, fast and supportive. For example the fees for getting a cashiers check was the cheapest if you have a Union Bank account, and so was reviewing an international money wire.

Are there multiple routing numbers related to the same bank account?

General rule of thumb is that a customer can check their bank account # and  routing # from their checks, but the actual answer can be a bit more complicated.Larger banks like Bank of America and Wells Fargo have different routing numbers for each state (sometimes they have multiple numbers for the same state e.g. B of A and California or JP Morgan Chase with New York). The routing number will usually be based on the branch where the customer opened their bank account.Additionally, for larger states or states where a bank has more customers banks sometimes have different routing numbers corresponding to a different use cases all for the same bank account. For example, if your customer banked with Bank of America in Southern California, They'd actually have 3 different routing numbers associated with my account number. For paper checks (printed on all of their checks) the routing number is 122000661 For receiving direct deposits (for Payroll) or ACH payments from other people it'd be 121000358and to wire them funds you'd have to use the routing number: 026009593       So to send this customer an ACH payment/direct deposit I'd have to use the routing number 121000358 (for direct deposit) along with their account number. When in doubt, the customer can always call their bank and ask for the proper bank routing number for an account, but here's a short list for three of the most common banks and how to quickly find routing number by state and function:Bank Of America:http://www.bankofamerica.com/dep...Wells Fargo:https://www.wellsfargo.com/help/...JP Morgan Chase:https://www.chase.com/ccp/index....
