What do you do when someone gives you money on your birthday?
What I “do” depends upon who gives me the money and how much. if it’s my granny or a relative, I gush with sincere appreciation and maybe a funny remark like, “Awe, I look so good in green,” and we both laugh.On the other hand, I’ve never had a friend give me unexpected cash. I’ve had “Let’s fix your house up” cash from a group of friends, however, so it was cash with a purpose.So, if the person giving you money/check/cash, is someone you’re really comfortable with, I’d act funny surprised, thank them, give them a hug, and say something like, “Oh! Just my size!”If it’s someone who’s a new friend, to be truthful, I might be taken aback for a moment, but I’m still going to be thankful and perhaps say something like, “I know we just met, but you certainly know me well.” Then, I’d probably talk with them one on one later about what a surprise gift they gave me! I’d get t o know hem better so to understand how they make decisions and how they are as a friend. But, then again, I’m always interested in the psychological aspects of people’s behavior.
Should I give money for the birthday of my girlfriend if she says that she doesn't want anything?
Is there something that she needs or wants, but cannot afford to buy? I once gave my girlfriend (ex) a check for Valentines Day. I know, too romantic. But she was living paycheck to paycheck, and really needed the money. She was a skilled medical illustrator, and had worked in the field, but had gotten off of her career path a bit. Her CS (Crestive Suite, Illustrator, etc) skills were lacking and she needed to bring them back up to par before she could transition back to the career she wanted to be in, and for which she was trained. Her computer was out of date, and she couldn't even run CS3 on it at a time when everyone was already using CS4. So, she got a gift card and a check which paid for about 80% of a new computer, and she paid the last couple hundred dollars herself. She mixed that with hard work and perseverance, and within 3 years, she went from waitressing, to being a project manager for a 3D animation company. If I had bought her an expensive necklace for Valentines Day, she might still be stuck waitressing. Probably the best Thousand dollars I've ever spent. Even though we broke up eventually, I cared about her deeply, and I'm glad I was in a position to be able to help her with that. So, I think if you were making a contribution to her retirement fund, that's pretty lame. But, I don't think cash is always a bad gift.

Anything useful for her education besides money will also do. Get to know about her interests in studies and try to help her approach that interest. It can be book, software etc.

I don’t want to be the object of anybody’s stress, even if it’s about getting me a gift. And don’t spend too much money.Gift cards are nice, if you know that I’m actually into a certain brand. Like coffee. I like Peet’s coffee, and there’s a Peet’s nearby. If you give me a Starbucks card, I’ll think, “Oh nice, it’s a Starbucks card. I’ll get around to using it.” If you give me a Peet’s card, I’ll think, “Oh yay, if I don’t have time to make coffee, I can hop right on over to Peet’s across the street.”Movie tickets are an interesting way to land yourself a date, but what if the girl’s busy or just not interested?
