How Old You Got To Be For Auto Insurance

After an insurance claim, how long do you have to fix your car?

I got in an accident, (my fault) but I have coverage. I have to pay the deductable ($500) but they gave me a check for what their estimate is. Im not thinking that Im gonna fix it right away but I was wondering how long does the insurance company give you to fix the car after theyve paid you? I was gonna deposit the money and pay some bills then when I save up some more then fix my car. My boyfriend thinks i need more advice cuz he doesnt want me to get "insurance fraud" but its not like i lied about my accident..help??

thanks

How long does it take for someone to be put on an auto insurance policy?

I got my license, im 17. My dad went to the insurance people and he told me that I cant take the car until the bill comes in the mail. Its been over a week and it still didnt come. We got a discount on good grades and then drivers ed so now my dads saying thats why it hasnt come and it has to get approved by the office and all this crap. I think I am being bullsh*tted.

I dont understand why you would have to wait for a bill to come in the mail. I know tons of people that got on the insurance policy right after they got their license it didnt take a week. I dont know how this insurance stuff works so is it true you have to wait to get it approved or you are uninsured?

Can I switch car insurance after a car accident in which I was at fault?

Car insurance policies can be switched any time without considering the fact that there was a claim in which you were at fault. Switching of the car insurance policy is allowed through portability which is available under car insurance plans. In an accident where you were at fault, the claim would be made in your existing insurance policy. If it is a third party claim made by another driver on your policy, the claim would be taken to the motor accidents tribunal. The tribunal would dictate the amount of claim payable. The decision of the tribunal takes time. In the meanwhile, if your policy is up for renewal, you can switch to another car insurance policy. However, you would still be liable for the claim incurred in the previous policy. if a lawsuit is filed by an individual hurt in the accident, it would be in your name even if your switch policies. Your old insurance policy would, however, pay for the damages suffered by the third party. If there have been own damages too, your old policy would pay for them too up to the Insured Declared Value applicable under the plan. Any additional costs and deductible would be paid by you for your car’s repairs. Moreover, since a claim is already going on in your existing policy, you would lose the accumulated no claim bonus discount in the premium. So, switching of car insurance plans is allowed on policy renewals even when you have made a claim in your old policy for an accident which was due to your fault.Recommended Reading: know about the used car ownership and insurance transfer

Will it be cheaper if I move my car insurance under my parents?

This questions is a bit confusing. I can’t tell from the details if you are a youthful operator who has purchased a car and driving it, or if you are someone older who has kindly purchased a vehicle for your parents. I’ll take a stab at both scenarios.Youthful Operator who purchased the Vehicle:If you are a driver under the age of 25 and still living at home, it will almost always be less expensive to insure a car under your parents policy. There are exceptions (like when mom and dads credit and driving history are atrocious) where it might be less on your own, but in most situations, mom and dad’s policy will be a great place to insure your vehicle until you move out of the house or turn 25.Why?Insurance Score:Mom and Dad generally have established credit and thus a better insurance score. For more information on what an insurance score is, see this post.Multi-Car Discount:Mom and dad’s policy will result in the additional vehicle receiving a multi-car discount. This can save up to 20% off the premium immediately.Other Discounts:If mom and dad have a good history with their insurance carrier, you may benefit from other discounts they qualify for such as: accident free, accident forgiveness, loyalty discounts, homeowner or multi-policy discounts, etc. Any and all of these perks can add up.Older Operator purchasing a vehicle for your older Parents:If you live in different households, the insurance carrier and your state’s motor vehicle statues are likely going to require that you insure the vehicles:for the household where the vehicle is going to be garagedand the household where the primary operator residesWhy?
