How To Ask If Something Is Common In Japanese

Japanese: How to ask if somebody has something?

Travers N explained it well. I would say "Don't you have Megumi's weapon?" in English if the context called for it. I haven't seen the film but let's say that I assumed the other person had the weapon and then they asked me for it. I would respond with that same line.

Another possible way the film could have translated the line is: "You don't have Megumi's weapon, do you?"... that sounds a bit more like standard English perhaps.

The way they phrased the question in Japanese is not out of place or unusual. It's also standard to ask the other way around, the straight up direct way that was subtitled, which is: "Megumi no buki motteimasuka?"

In Japanese, how should I ask if others want to do something? (see question details)

When asking if someone wants to go, it’s possible to say something like 行きたいですか? but this is not considered polite. If you are inviting someone to go somewhere you would more likely say 行きますか? or 行きましょう. If you are wondering whether someone is considering going by himself, you could ask simply 行きますか。It is not considered polite to ask someone about their likes and dislikes, and so it is common to serve food and drinks without discussing the guest’s preferences. You were also asking about the たがる form. You don’t hear it that often, and again it’s not that polite to discuss what people want, but I might say that my dog wants to go for a walk by saying 散歩に行きたがっている。The たい form can be used for the first person and second person, but not for the third person. たがる is used for the third person, or you can instead use 行きたいみたい (it looks like he wants to go) because you can never know what he really wants to do. But avoid this if possible and instead if you are talking about what someone is thinking of doing, try 行くか検討しているらしい (he seems to be thinking about going) or perhaps 行くと言っていました (he said he was going). You can ask if someone wants a sandwich by asking ほしい? but this is not polite so normally you would ask 食べますか?

Japanese: Proper way to ask someone about something?

Well, the sentence is grammatically correct, but it doesn't make sense.

> (insert name)-san wa (insert a different name) no denwa bangoo desu ka?

This means "Is (insert name)-san (insert a different name)'s telephone number?".
This is like saying "Are you his phone number?"

I don't know what you really wanted to say, but I assume that you want to say something like the following:

"Does (insert name)-san know (insert a different name)'s telephone number?"

(insert name)-san wa (insert a different name) no denwa bangou wo shitte imasu ka?

How do you ask how to say something in Japanese?

Polite
How do u say 〜 in Japanese?
〜とは日本語で何と言いますか?
〜towo nihongo de nanto iimasuka?

What does 〜 mean in English?
〜とは英語でどういう意味ですか?
〜towa eigo de douiu imi desuka?
I think u mean "What does 〜 mean in ENGLISH?" if u want an explanation in Eng. If u want a Japanese definition, just change thd word "eigo" to "nihongo".

Hope that helped! ☆彡

How do you say someone is going somewhere in Japanese.?

行く(いく) = Iku = to go
私は行きます(わたしはいきます) = watashi wa ikimasu = I am going/I will go.

私はPlaceに行きます。
You don't have to put 私は, if you don't want to. It's implied that you're talking about yourself. You can also you へ (he) instead of に, but I think に is more popular/common.

What are some of the most common Japanese suffixes?

Well I mean Anime would make us think there used all the time… but there not really.I mean Sensi is super common Pre-fix. But that’s because its basically like saying “Mr. William.”BUT.Kun & Chan are used semi-normally.And Sempi is used kind of normally….But not as much as pop culture would have us think. If you call some one “William-Kun” You are basically saying to anyone listening. “THIS IS MY VERY BEST FRIEND!” And it can be about that annoying if you do it a lot.Girls are more likely to use them then guys. Girls calling each other so and so Chan is not that uncommon in school. but once you get out of school. its more something you do with friends. not at work.Side Note: I constantly called my kocho sensei “Hediki Sama” When I taught in Japan. (Kocho Sensei is a Principle, Sama means Lord or Lady)Thing was.. It was a Running Joke we had because I joked he looked like a Samurai lord. (Because he was a older gent with a nice Samurai Beard, And Beards are pretty rare in Japan now)So I got away with it, because he was the one that kept the joke going. And because I was a Gijin. I’m not required to follow the rules all the time.

Is it common for Japanese wives to know how to make sushi? Or it's something more exclusive to sushi chefs?

Absolutely, they know how. While you may think of sushi as this:it also includes this:The first is nigiri sushi, the second is a futomaki (fat roll) which is a thick version of norimaki (rolled sushi like cucumber or tuna rolls).I am married to a Japanese woman and lived in Japan for three years. It is common to see rolled sushi in picnics or casual dinner parties. I have never met a Japanese person (doesnt have to be a female or a housewife) who doesn't know how to make one. From what my wife tells me, culinary arts are taught in Japanese schools. This of course is centered on Japanese cuisine (although other types like Italian which is popular in Japan) is also taught.Besides that would be your mother teaching a daughter how to prepare food and the ubiqutous television programs and magazines dealing with food. You'd have to live in a box in Japan not to know how to do certain things with food.Another example:As the title says: Temaki sushi (hand rolls). Japanese people love not just eating food, they like the experience of cooking or creating. Communal cooking like nabe (hot pots) or yakiniku (korean style grill cooking) is very popular.Temaki sushi parties are also popular. Guest get to assemble their food (like a North American taco party) and off they go. Everybody does this. Male and female (housewife or not).Sometimes my wife and I buy a chunk of fish and make nigiri. It may be not as good as what may come from a master chef, or in the case of norimaki, may not look as good as this:But it definitely is sushi. And probably 99.9% of Japanese housewives know how to make it.
