How To Bake At Scratch

How much to charge for a decorated layered cake made from scratch (frosting from scratch too).?

What stores are around you that don't bake from scratch?
Depending upon your ingredients I would say anywhere from $20.00 up to about $70.00. The difference is if you are using butter versus margarine, shortening, or oil. You must include the price of the nuts and how fresh they are, because nuts can be very expensive. And the biggest determiner is the fact that you didn't say what size cake you are baking.

9" round- $20-30
10" round- $30- 40
11" round- $40- 50
12" round- $50- 60
1/4 sheet $25-35
1/2 sheet $40- 70

I don't think you would be baking a cake larger than a half sheet double layered cake.
If this is a person you like you can charge on the lower end as a discount.

But if all else fails add up the cost of your ingredients and add 21% to your costs and that should give you a good price.

What are the easiest recipes to bake a cake from scratch?

The easiest is to start with a basic sponge, which has the building blocks of most cakes. So preheat the ovrn to 180C/375F and then, for a small cake or to make a small batch of cupcakes, take 2 eggs and weigh them. Then weigh out the same weight of flour, caster sugar and butter, and add a teaspoon of baking powder to the flour.Beat the butter and sugar together until they're fluffy and pale - an electric hand whisk really helps for this, otherwise you'll be relying on a wooden spoon and elbow grease - then alternate adding small amounts of egg and flour so you don't curdle your cake batter, until everything is mixed in. If the mix seems a bit dry and stuff, add a little milk or lemon juice, 1 teaspoon at a time, until the mixture drops easily from the spoon under its own weight. At this point it's up to you. You can grease a small baking tin with butter and flour and cook a larger cake, or you can put paper cases into a muffin pan and half fill them with batter, then put them in the oven. How long you need to cook them depends on a few things. Cupcakes should take 15–20 minutes, a larger cake a little longer, depending on whether it's in a shallow pan or set up to be quite deep. Either way, it's cooked when you can put a cocktail stick in for 5 seconds and draw it out clean, or with a few crumbs on it at most. If it comes out slimy, the cake needs to go back in the oven. You can adjust the recipe to suit your needs by adding a teaspoon of vanilla essence as you mix, or some lemon zest, or swapping out a tablespoon of flour for cocoa. And you scale the recipe for a bigger cake simply by weighing more eggs. For a simple buttercream to top the cake, weigh out butter and icing sugar in a 1:2 ratio, beat until light and fluffy, then add the flavouring and colour of your choice.Happy baking!

Have you ever tried to bake cakes or breads from scratch without a recipe, making it up as you go? What was the result?

Disaster in the making.Cooking and baking are two different things. In cooking you use recipes. you can adjust the recipe. you can add salt, or no salt. you can add spices or omit them you have a lot of leeway in cooking. In baking, you use formulas. you need precise measurements, and specific processes, and a correct sequence or your results will be different.Take for instance bread. Simple: Flour Water Yeast.Depending on how you process it you can have crispy French Bread, Soft Dinner Rolls, or pizza crust. All flour, Water, yeast. Some might have sugar or oil, some are kneaded a lot, some not kneaded at all. one might need to rest refrigerated overnight others immediately into the oven.

Can you make a cake from scratch without flour if so please give me the recipe?

Yes, and here is the recipe I use.

Ingredients
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup white sugar
18 (1 ounce) squares bittersweet chocolate
1 cup unsalted butter
6 eggs

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease one 10 inch round cake pan and set aside.
2. In a small saucepan over medium heat combine the water, salt and sugar. Stir until completely dissolved and set aside.
3. Either in the top half of a double boiler or in a microwave oven melt the bittersweet chocolate. Pour the chocolate into the bowl of an electric mixer.
4. Cut the butter into pieces and beat the butter into the chocolate, 1 piece at a time. Beat in the hot sugar-water. Slowly beat in the eggs, one at a time.
5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Have a pan larger than the cake pan ready, put the cake pan in the larger pan and fill the pan with boiling water halfway up the sides of the cake pan.
6. Bake cake in the water bath at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) for 45 minutes. The center will still look wet. Chill cake overnight in the pan. To unmold, dip the bottom of the cake pan in hot water for 10 seconds and invert onto a serving plate.
