What are the requirements for a gunsmith job?

It appears based on your background you are prepared to interview at Gander Mountain. You might not start out as a weaponsmith but get in the door applying as a Sales Associate, firearm department etc then you can transfer after 6 months or a year. Also Gander Mountain, about two years ago, eliminated most gunsmith positions. Therefore I would also apply at , Cabela's, Dick's, other chains. Always read the website of the company you are applying to understand i.e. how long in busy, types of items sold, most popular items, low cost items, etc. Good Luck!

Customer Service Rep Gander Mountain InterviewJacksonville, FL (Aug 2 days)
I interviewed with the Regional Manager due to a new store opening up. He asked behavioral questions that dealt with outdoors. I was the only person who dressed up for the interview and the manager always remembered me when he came to visit the store.
Interview Questions
What type of outdoor actitivies have you participated in?

Sales Associate at Gander Mountain- Interviewed in Aug (took 3 days)
Interview was very laid back. I had go do the interview with the assistant manager. He asked questions like "What is your favorite outdoor experience?" I believe they do that to get a better understanding of how passionate you are about the outdoors because afterall the motto is "We live outdoors". When I was Interviewed I felt like he was almost questioning me on my knowledge of the products which is fine but since I was hired they hired more people who dont even know an ounce about the products or even have a passion for the outdoors. I know they prefer to have employees with previous retail experience and are 18 years of age or older.

Requirements to work at any bait and tackle store?

Believe it or not, loads of fishing knowledge are not necessary to work in a tackle shop (though it definitely helps). I've been in shops where the kid behind the register barely had a clue. While lots of technical knowledge is nice, the most common questions you'll have to answer are things like "What's the difference between a spinning reel and a spincasting reel?", "What's the best lure/bait for lake xxxx?", "How much is a fishing license?", etc.

What you need are "job skills" -- show up on time and ready to work, be enthusiastic and good with people, knowing where on the shelves a certain product is, etc. It takes a different mindset than knowing how to coax a bite out of a fish on a slow day. Plenty of good fishermen lack the people skills and would be lousy in a tackle shop.

Age requirements vary by state, but I know a lot of teenagers who hold summer jobs, so I think that shouldn't be a problem for a 17 year old. And while it shouldn't matter, appearance does count. Don't dress like a teenage gangbanger or anything like that -- most customers will be relatively conservative middle aged people, so you have to look somewhat respectable.

Bottom line, it's a job, not a whole lot different than working in a hardware store.

Is it legal to require a doctor's note for employees to carry a water bottle at work?

I've worked at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse in Utah for about three years and just recently we've gotten new management. I heard of a new rule. My store manager informed me that from now on if an employee would like to carry a water bottle on the floor (in the store in customer view), employees are required to obtain a doctors note stating they are allowed to have a water bottle with them. And, when, said employee gets a doctor's note stating they are allowed to carry around a water bottle with them in customer view, the water bottle must have the Lowe's insignia on it.

Is this legal?it doesn't seem right if it is ,but I'm also aware life isn't fair. I want to complain, but I don't know who to complain to, and if my complaint is valid. If this is illegal, I'd be interested in finding out what I can do to change this policy. Any free legal advice (Is there such a thing?) would be great! Thanks.

What are the differences between the outlet store and the regular store?

I think I know, but it's kind of a guess. I think it's implying that it's a factory outlet. It's another way of saying, "Buy here, we're as close to wholesale as you'll ever get." They usually sell exclusively from one distributor, wholesaler or factory.

Sometimes these distributors, wholesalers or manufacturers have very specific requirements for a store to call itself an outlet, like Banana Republic or The Gap. It can be stylistic or aesthetic requirements or required volume of wholesale purchases, or price points that products will not be sold below.

Again, I'm guessing and not an expert. Why don't you go to an outlet and ask them about the difference? They'll likely use words like price and wholesale.
