Pharmacy Technician?

Hello. This is a VERY good field to look into. It really doesnt take that long to get certified it just depends on how they teach or where you go to determine how long it will take you to finish. You have 2 options:

1. CVS, that is where I worked and i became Certifiied Pharmacy Technician. I am still there now. I enjoy it. It is a great opportunity to work because you have alot of options like. You start off As a PSA.

Pharmacy Service Associate (PSA)

This is an entry-level role. The primary focus for a PSA is on customer service. Responsibilities within the position include: Ringing out prescriptions, answering telephones, and Pharmacist referrals. The role of the PSA is important because he/she is often the first person with whom the customer comes into contact. The impression that the PSA gives the customer may determine the outcome of that customer's experience at CVS/pharmacy.

Pharmacy Technician

This is a second level position that builds upon the skills and responsibilities of the PSA. The role of the Technician is focused on customer service and prescription order processing, as well as problem resolution and inventory management. The role of the Technician is important because he/she helps to ensure that the right customer receives the right prescription, every time.

Pharmacy Lead Technician

This is a third-level position that builds upon the skills and responsibilities of the Tech. The role of the Pharmacy Lead Technician includes more focus on mentoring and guiding support staff members in team development. The Lead Technician is important because he or she serves as a role model for for other Pharmacy Support Staff, and supports the Pharmacist.

You can also call your local cvs, and talk with the lead manager or the pharmacist in charge.

2. You can go to a community college and alot of them have started classes where you go for 6-8 weeks and it helps you prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Exam. My friend done that and she passed. They meet for like 4-5 hours 3 or 2 times a week

Good Luck

What do you need to become a pharmacy technician?

DON'T GO TO SCHOOL!!!

It's the best advice I ever received and it's advice I always tell people when they asked how I became a pharmacy technician. Just go online, order some books and study to take the pharmacy technician certification test.

I studied the summer after I graduated high school and when I turned 18 I took the test and passed.

Go to PTCB.org for more info, practice tests, and study material.

Don't waste your time and money on pharmacy school. Good luck!!

How to become Pharmacy Technician @ walgreens?

walgreens loves when employees who already work in the front end of the store wish join the pharmacy staff. your placement just all depends on if your particular pharmacy needs help at the moment. some states require technicians to pass a test first so just check on that. i live in CT, and i was hired at 16 with no experience. i've been there 5 years and love it. you won't be treated like any other applicant because you are already with the company. recently our pharmacy needed fulltime coverage quick and we chose one of our own cosmeticians over 2 pharmacy students with no experience simply because we didn't need to provide that extra training on how to use a walgreens cash register. the pay starts A LOT higher as well. tell your store manager about it. if the position is available, he/she cannot refuse you holding you to your current position, as the company is all about promoting =)

Is becoming a Pharmacy Technician easy?

The training will teach you everything you need to know about medicine. As a pharmacy tech, you aren't going to need to know what each medicine does, what people shouldn't take with certain medicines, etc. That is the job a pharmacist. A pharmacy technician receives written prescription requests from patients. They also may receive prescriptions sent electronically from doctors’ offices, and in some States they are permitted to process requests by phone. They must verify that the information on the prescription is complete and accurate. To prepare the prescription, technicians retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, and sometimes mix the medication. Then they prepare the prescription labels, select the type of container, and affix the prescription and auxiliary labels to the container. Once the prescription is filled, technicians price and file the prescription, which must be checked by a pharmacist before it is given to the patient. Technicians may establish and maintain patient profiles, as well as prepare insurance claim forms.

First you need to check your state's regulations for pharmacy technicians. Each state is different as far as if you need schooling, certifications, etc. If you are going to be working in California, their state requirements are:
1. Hold an associate degree in pharmacy technology.
OR
2. Complete a training course accredited by ASHP.
OR
3. Complete other course that provides a minimum of 240 hours of training.
OR
4. Graduate from a school of pharmacy accredited by ACPE.
OR
5. Have received training by the federal armed services.
OR
6. Earn PTCB certification.

So you will want to check to make sure that the free school you will be going to will satisfy one of these requirements. Is it free because you have financial aid or because it is just a free class? If you want to see what training will be like, there is an online course demo you can take to see what subjects are covered and so you can see if this is really something you want to do. http://www.careerstep.com/demo/?uid=ref1... And if it turns out that your free school isn't actually free or doesn't meet one of your state's requirements, this school is a great option http://www.careerstep.com/pharmacytech/?...

Good luck!
