How To Change A Carrier Bearing On Chevy 2500hd Truck

What are the differences between a K1500 and a C1500 Chevy truck?

Plain and simple, the difference between a K series truck and a C series truck is a transfer case, different suspension, and a front axle. The K series truck is four wheel drive and has these items. The C series is two wheel drive and does not, therefore, it also uses a transmission that has a longer output shaft and a tail shaft housing, because it isn't mounted to a transfer case. The C designates the vehicle as a two wheel drive. The K, a 4WD.Some other differences are that many of the earlier models of the 2WD truck used the 5-bolt lug pattern while the 4WD used the 6-lug pattern. Also, the 2WD truck used a rotor integrated into the hub, and that hub had an inner and outer wheel bearing and bearing races, as well as a grease seal, in the hub. The hub and rotor were mounted on a spindle and a nut was used to hold it in place, similar to how the front hubs were mounted on most rear wheel drive automobiles. The 4WD hub was part of the axle assembly. The rotor was placed on the hub and held on by the brake calipers.

Replacing front passenger hub on 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500hd pickup.?

the reason why yours doesn't have a middle nut is because yours is rear wheel drive & YES~! It does matter. If you get one that suppose to have a middle nut to hold the hub together, it will come apart when you go drive it. I suggest you break down & go to the Chevy/GMC dealership & get the correct part

Not sure why you or any other people want to do things the hard way & buy that crap online. Just spend the money & get the better stuff. Get the factory parts.

But yours takes a difference hub that doesn't utilize a center axle shaft nut to keep the wheel bearing together. Its built differently than a 4WD wheel bearing

And yes if your thinking, most 4WD will fit 2WD & 2WD will fit 4WD, only difference between them is one needs a nut to screw on the axle shaft to keep the wheel bearing tighter & the other does not

What is the difference between 4x4 and Z71 trucks?

Not to be too lengthy, and some great answers here. Just wanted to provide a bit of background. Years ago, when dealers ordered GM trucks (GMC and Chevrolet) when you ordered a 4wd truck, you could add the Z-71 option code, which was an OFF Road suspension. It included Billstein or Monroe shocks, skid plates under the tansmission and transfer case, and sometime, the G-80 EATON rear locking axle. The option became so popular, people soon started asking for trucks with the Z71 option. The Dealer would have to pull the invoice on the truck or review every window sticker on the lot. So, for ease of identifying, GM started putting decals on the trucks with the package. Eventually, the package became so popular they turned it into an entire trim level, even making it available on 2WD models. It was a very affordable option, considering everything you got for the price. However, many 4X4 trucks didn't have the option, and only said 4X4. Today, it doesn't necessarily mean what it used to, but originally, it was just an option, known only to dealers, for the off road package.

Why is a pickup trucks called a 1/2, 3/4 & 1 ton when those specifications do not exist in the pickup truck's specs anywhere, not a weight, load capacity, etc.?

These terms are holdovers from when they used to mean the carrying capacity.  Think about the number designations.  If you consider back in the 1960s a Ford F100 truck was a true 1/2 ton truck that could carry 1000 pounds (half ton).  The F150 was a 3/4 ton truck back then, (1500 pound capacity).  The F250 and F350 could carry their equivalents in weight also.As the trucks grew larger the F150 inherited the 1/2 ton moniker and the  F250 and F350 were the next two sizes up regardless of carrying capacity.  These same designations work for Dodge and Chevy (x10) for 1500, 2500, and 3500.A modern 1/2 ton truck can easily carry a ton and 1 ton trucks can easily carry three tons, but they are still relative terms to let you know the carrying capacity.

Need help on replacing rear driveshaft u joint on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?

That plastic is an epoxy used at the factory to secure the u-joint.
When you get them apart you will see the groove machined into the yoke that allows the epoxy to flow all the way around the cap and hold it in place.
If you have a torch of some kind the easiest method is to heat the yoke until the epoxy liquidizes and oozes from the yoke then press or beat the cap out in the usual fashion. The new u-joint will come with c-clips to secure it the old fashioned way.
If you don't have any kind of torch just beat the living crap out of it. It takes longer but the epoxy will let loose with enough persistent force.
best of Luck!

How to bleed 2000 cavalier cooling system?

The one an only reason you have a coolant soaked carpet under the front passengers feet is when the heater-core is leaking. You should have never removed the thermostat! It never causes the heater core to leak. If the heater isn't baling out heat *with a 195 degree thermostat the heater control valve is stuck closed or the heater-core is plugged. If you have been mixing any other type of antifreeze other than Dexcool, you're plugging up your cooling system. If the water-pump isn't leaking out the weep hole on the bottom of the input-shaft housing and the coolant is circulating through the radiator without the cap on there's no reason to monkey with the water-pump.

Your missing the only reason to remove a thermostat. If the dash temperature gage has risen past 230 *and the upper radiator hose is luke warm the thermostat is stuck closed. It's OK to remove it in a pinch till you buy a new 195 degree thermostat and re-install it before your crankcase fills up with moisture!

You didn't tell us hot hot the cooling system was getting before you removed the thermostat. The radiator pressure cap is what builds cooling system pressure not the thermostat. Till you have time to replace the heater-core, go to Carquest and buy a 4 or 8 pound pressure cap which will slow down the coolant leak.

If it was Summer time you could drain, flush and clean your cooling system at home. Now is not the time to pull this off. Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner has to run through the clean, flushed empty system with *no antifreeze for at least 200 miles.
