How To Choose Between Very Different Career Paths

I can't choose a career path!?

Go take a bubble bath and then come back and read the rest of my answer...

Back yet? Good... Now you're not so stressed. Just relax and know that everyone has that problem. Everyone is afraid that they could take a different path and what would be best. That is part of why decision making is so hard. If you enjoy what your family does, do it. If you enjoy doing something else, do that! Do whatever makes you happiest. There are plenty of ways to make money, and you may have to work harder doing something that makes you happy (art is a great example) but why would anyone want to work in a job that makes them so unhappy that they just want to give up every day, but make millions? Ridiculous I tell you. Sit down and think about what makes you happiest and go with that path. As far as careers are concerned, doing what makes you happiest will be your best bet. You will find someone that makes you happy anywhere, eventually. Hey, you may meet him tomorrow. You don't know. There is no guarantee. Just go with the flow on that one and hope for the best. I hope you decide the best for yourself. Good luck!

Torn between two career paths?

I want to help people and make a difference. I have that much down packed. I have bounced back and forth between a whole bunch of different careers but have have now narrowed it down to two. The problem is I can't decide between them, but I need to soon because I will be graduating high school next year.

The first one is animal assisted therapy. I love animals so much and want them in my life. I want to turn this passion into a career that will help others. Mainly children and young adults living with ashbergers and autism. Animals are great therapy and really help a lot.

The second is international development. I want to make change around the world for people living in developing countries suffering from poverty, illness, and disasters. As an international development worker I will help organize projects and innitiatives to help people in these situations. I don't know exactly where I would work for this career but I would also want to travel places to help distribute aid in disaster situations.

The reason I am torn is because in animal assisted therapy I will be working with animals and people living with autism. I will be helping them and I think this career would be very fun and interesting. Also when I invision this career I see myself outside with horses, which I would enjoy. But I don't feel like I would really be helping people in need of food aalnd shelter and medical care. As an international development worker I will be helping people all across the world and I would be saving lives. This would be very rewarding but I am worried I might be stuck in an office all day and get bored. When I invision this career I can see myself both in an office (which I wouldn't like too much cause I'm an outdoorsy person) and in developing countried handing out food and medical supplies. I guess I'm also open to suggestions for careers that would involve more time outside than in :P
I'm all over the place! Help!
