How To Deal With Cold Weather Back Pain

Mid and lower back pain due to cold weather?

Hi Sleepless

I feel for you, back pain is a terrible thing to have, there is no way of getting comfortable. A few years ago I suffered from back pain, it wasn't just in cold weather but I guess the cold weather made it worse. I tried many things, I visited chiros, osteos and my local Doctor (who hadn't a clue - juts gave me pain killers) Anyway eventually I Googled for back pain and found one site which seemed to offer some solutions. I signed up and followed the advice for about a month when I started to notice the pain was getting less and less. Eventually it went altogether, since then I follow the advice and have been pain free for 2 years! I would recommend you try it. I've put the link in the Source box below.

Good Luck

Why do I have knee pain in cold weather?

I had an arthroscopic menisectomy about 2 years ago and i didn't have any metal put inside my knee. Recently I have been having knee pain when it gets cold or my knee just gets cold due to a breeze. The pain gets worse the colder it gets. It gets stiff and swollen. I don't know why. Does anyone have this problem or does someone know what this is? I don't know what to do.

Metal plate in leg, pain in cold weather?

I had a spiral fracture of the fibula in February and had to have surgery. I have a plate and 8 screws now. It's unusually cold today where I live, and my leg is in agony. I usually have some muscle and tendon pain in the area, but this pain is more like the bone pain that I felt after the injury and before the surgery. I'm hesitant to ask my doctor about it, because my doctor's usual solution seems to be prescribing a narcotic and I would rather not take one. What else might help it? I bought a patch with capsaicin and applied it, but it hasn't helped much.

Does the cold weather actuall cause pain ?

Yes. "There are three main ideas around why some people feel joint pain in cold weather. The first is that scar tissue around joints from injuries or arthritis seems to be sensitive to changes in barometric pressure. Given that colder air is denser, the increase in barometric pressure may be enough to stress already damaged joints. The second reason is dehydration, which is unfortunately far too common during cold months. As we drink more hot coffee, chocolate or drink alcohol during the holidays instead of water, our body’s water level drops and this leads to muscle fatigue which contributes to cold weather joint pain. Caffeine and nicotine also leads to restricted blow flow which also creates muscle fatigue. The third is simple physics regarding the human body. Heat is lost through surface area and the body generates heat best closer to the torso. Thus it is inevitable that feet (farthest from the trunk) and hands (far away as well as having lots of surface area) will lose heat faster. So pains in the knees/ankles and elbows/hands will happen more frequently than cold weather joint pain in the neck or back."

Back Pain during a cold?! HELP.?

Muscles in the back that give pain is usually because they have some pinching going on somewhere. It doesn't have to be because of what you did, just in it's overall reaction to what did happen can cause it to do pull tight and create the pain. here are 4 exercises that should help you get past any headaches and backaches for the weekend.
Press your thumbs up under your chin near the front. Press into the muscle in the middle and hold. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don't tense up any part of your body.
When the muscle seems to be releasing after about 30 seconds, slowly raise your head as it does until your neck is fully extended. Then remove the pressure but hold your head there for one minute longer.
For your neck:
Place your hand alongside your head so you can push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Then place your fingers on the muscle on the back of your neck. Pull in on both of them and hold a moderate pressure with them. Relax again.
After about 30 seconds there should be a releasing going on, the muscles going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp. Then raise your head as high as you can. Release the pressure but hold your head there for one minute longer.
For your upper back:
Place your left elbow on your right knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine and press on it and hold. Relax again.
When you feel a release happening in your back, about 30 seconds, slowly lower yourself forward until you are completely onto your right leg. Continue to hold for 30 seconds then remove the pressure. Then remove the pressure but hold your body there for another minute. then do the other side.
for lower back, below the belt line and to the end of your tailbone.
Take both hands and put them on the muscles on either side of your spine. Press in on them and hold. Relax again. When you feel the release happening, slowly lower yourself forward until you are in your lap. then remove the pressure but rest your body there for one minute longer. I have done this to a couple of spots on my lower back and it has felt great, especially when I did the one at the tail end of my spine. I hope that they bring you the painless weekend you are looking for.

I'm 14 and I get reeaall bad back pain?

At 14 its unlikely anything is wrong. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean there isn't. I'm 25 and no one though I had issues but it turns out I have Lupus.

Could be a few things.

1st. Could be your posture, diet, and/or how you bend over. Learn some posture tricks and back straightening exercises.

2nd. Could be depression. Depression doesn't always come with back pain but it is common. Either take pills, arts, or exercise.

3rd. Could maybe rheumatoid arthritis. This is a arthritis that can effect any age. Try to rule the other ones out first it will take a long time before you get treated or tested for this. Could be years before any physical signs (other than pain) show up. They could say you have Fibromyalgia. Which basically gives people the right to call you a pussy. Even though its a real thing to you, most of the people out there see it as an excuse to be lazy.
