How To Feed New Born Baby Partridge

Scared bird away from nest!!?

Thank you SO much for all your answers!! haha now I realize I kinda freaked but this is my first time watching the whole nesting process and I was worried I'd just ruined it. I'm not sure if the mom is back yet b/c I can't see into the nest but I've shut all the blinds near my balcony and I'm definitely not going out there again so hopefully she figures out soon that it's safe for her to come back. Also, don't worry about me handling the birds in any way. Even if they didn't come back I wouldn't have touched the eggs. I really want to see these birdies hatch but at the same time ya gotta let nature take its course. Again, thank you so much for all your help and I'm sure I'll be back freaking out about something else. haha bye!

What is the effect of feeding rice to pigeons?

There is a very popular theory that feeding rice to birds (think throwing rice at weddings) will cause the unsuspecting eaters to die when the rice expands in their little bellies and makes them explode! Unfortunately, this urban myth is simply that- a myth. Snopes has a great entry on it, but I’ll summarize the findings here.Rice- raw or not- is not harmful to birds. In 2002, this myth was put to the test at the University of Kentucky in a study that was later published as “A CLASSROOM EXERCISE FOR TESTING URBAN MYTH: Does Wedding Rice Cause Birds to Explode or Were Ann Landers, Martha Stewart & Bart Simpson Wrong?” The researchers measured the expansion of different types of rice at various stages of cooking, then tested the theory further on actual birds. They found that instant rice was the only type of rice that expands more than regular bird seed. Still, when they tested the exploding theory with instant rice on bird stomach models made of paper bags, the researchers could not find any proof that rice would cause stomachs explode... so they decided to test actual birds. The lead researcher fed 60 of his own doves and pigeons nothing but instant rice and water for a full day and monitored the effects. None of the birds showed signs of pain or distress, and none of them exploded (or died). The conclusion was that if instant rice and water wasn’t harmful, then raw rice has to be perfectly safe. This conclusion is well supported by the rice community. Rice expert Mary Jo Cheesman from the USA Rice Federation has said, ”This silly myth pops up periodically, and it is absolutely unfounded.” Birds are known to be major nuisances to rice farmers because of their incessant grubbing on the rice fields. And uncooked rice is no more harmful to birds than rice in the field, says Cheesman. Anyway, the uncooked rice would be ground up, digested and pooped out far before it could expand to the point of explosion. So the effect of feeding rice to pigeons? Happy pigeons. And maybe more poop. But our only hope of seeing birds explode?

I've found a baby partridge which was abandoned, how should I take care of it? what should I feed it?

Does this bird look fully feathered, or does it at least have most of it's feathers? This bird is most likely a fledger.

Fledgers are suppose to stay on the ground, as their parents still care for them and they are preparing for flight. Go put the bird back where you found it, preferably under a shrub or bush so it won't be visable to predators.

If this bird is unfeathered, it most likely fell out of a nest. Go look for a near-by nest, and put it back if you do find one. Don't worry about your scent being on the baby bird, because most birds have a very poor sense of smell. If no nest can be found, or the nest is out of reach, please take or call a local wild rehab center, so that this baby bird can survive with the proper care it needs, and it's illegal to take care of wild birds.

What type of food can I feed my cat, other than pet foods?

You mean human food? Hmm, cats’ tastes vary, but your cat would probably love it if you were to open a can of tuna. :-)Don’t worry if commercial cat food isn’t available for a while. When I was a child, my mom fed our cat the same food the family were eating. That cat lived a long and healthy life, so obviously the diet wasn’t bad for the cat, even though it wasn’t ideal.Fish and meat of any kind would be very welcome. (A cat can eat fish and meat raw, but for safety reasons you may want to cook them. That childhood cat adored raw minced meat, fresh from the butcher’s shop, above anything else.) The following items would also be good - although not every cat likes them: cooked eggs, cooked vegetables (many cats are fond of broccoli, sweetcorn or beans), rice, hummus, porridge. My Sulu recommends baked beans in tomato sauce. :-)Cats can also eat potatoes and bread, although most will only eat a bit of those.Milk can be great, and also a bit of cheese and yoghurt. But be careful with this, because some cats have a lactose intolerance and can’t digest milk or dairy. If you’re not certain whether or not your cat can digest milk and dairy, give it just a spoonful and observe if it’s ok. (If your cat vomits or gets funny poo, don’t give it any more.)Basically, you can let your cat have a bit of almost any human food. It’s not an ideal diet in the long term, because cats have different nutritional needs. But it’s not a problem for a while, as long as you include meat or fish. Here are the exceptions: grapes, raisins, chocolate, onions, garlic, alcohol, chewing gum. Those are toxic for cats. Don’t give your cat those. Also, avoid salt and spices, especially very salty foods. If the canned tuna is preserved in brine, rinse it before giving it to your cat.I hope this helps.PS: The question I answered got merged with a different one, which isn’t quite the same. The question I replied to asked what food to give a cat until the original asker could get to the shop to buy cat food. This implies just a very short time. The question it was merged with is about a situation where cat food isn’t available, which may be a permanently. — Please read my answer in the context it was intended.

At what age can toddlers eat shrimp?

I have heard many different rules: 9 months, 12 months, 2 years, and 3 years.

I would look at your family history -does anyone have allergies particularly to shellfish? Does your child have any food allergies? If yes to either of those I would wait until age 2 or 3. Otherwise I think now would be fine, but that is just my opinion. However SMALL amounts the first few times, don't just sit her in front of a shrimp ring, there is some evidence that going from none to gorging on one thing can cause allergies.

Hmm I am trying to find a factual source on this that doesn't contain information that is blantantly false and only used to sell more baby products...
