How To Get Into John Hopkins University

What are the requirements to get into John Hopkins University?

Applying to Hopkins
If you're looking for a college education that will challenge your intellect, spur you on to greater independence in thought and action, and prepare you to chart your own course in the world, Johns Hopkins may be the right university for you.

Admission to Hopkins is very competitive. From 11,277 applications received last year, we enrolled a class of 1,140 freshmen. Although an outstanding academic record is important, we select students on the basis of many attributes and are especially interested in those we believe will contribute to, as well as benefit from, the Hopkins community. In light of this, the Admissions Committee also considers extracurricular activities, demonstrated leadership and/or contribution, interviews with admissions representatives, your personal essay, and recommendations from your teachers. Interviews are not required, but strongly recommended when possible.

Recommended preparation for all students includes four years of English, four years of Mathematics, three or four years of a Foreign Language or two years for Engineering majors, at least two years of Science with laboratory, and two or three years of History and Social Science. Most Hopkins applicants have chosen from among the most demanding courses offered by their high schools.

See our Fast Facts for prospective undergraduates for more information on the make-up of our recently admitted class.

Can i get into johns hopkins if i have 3.7 GPA, 2350 on SAT?

Is it a possibility? Certainly. But there's one thing you have to know; if you're smart enough to get into the top tier of universities, then it's almost luck that determines whether or not you get in. These top schools receive thousands upon thousands of applications a year, most of whom have around the same qualifications. You need something to make you stand out, something special. Also very important is the fact that colleges these days look for students that are well-rounded; academics alone will not win you a spot.

Santa Clara U
Vanderbilt
Baylor
Hillsdale College

Can I get into Johns Hopkins with a 4.6 GPA and amazing extracurriculars?

As I have grown older, one thing I have learned is that the best way to answer questions of the type “Can I do/have/be [X]?” …is to just do it and see what happens. There is someone who was admitted to the Harvard Law School without taking the LSAT; a mathematician who won the Fields Medal despite having initially received B’s and C’s in math/physics courses; and a Stanford professor who dropped-out of high-school and became magician before returning to academia later. Now, I am not saying everyone will be like Reginald Lewis or Stephen Smale or Persi Diaconis. Their success is a complex mixture of high innate ability; persistence and extremely hard work; and also some non-trivial amount of luck. But my point is that these people did not look for a precedent to their actions. They just went ahead and did what their heart desires, and here were are marveling at that them…I assume that you’re still young, since you’re applying to college, so here’s a bit of advice that should become your personal religion from now on:You shall live your life following the Scientific Method, meaning that……You shall not wonder whether something is or is not possibleYou shall simply test it out for yourself by doing that thing, and observing the outcome for yourselfSo, can you get into JHU?Well, young padawan, that is what we on Quora are asking you: so apply, and then come back here and tell us what happened. I am all ears!P.S. A better question to ask is what specific strategies you should use to maximize your chances of admission.
