How To Get Program More Internet Access

How do you make a program access the internet?

I'm a programmer, and I know Java, MATLAB, BASIC, a bit of C++ and a few other languages.

I was wondering, how would I write a program so that it can access the internet?

For example, how would I make a program go to Yahoo! Finance, so that I could get the specific value of a stock, or something like that.

Is there a way to program that, and/or can you give me the reference to a website that can teach me how to do that?

Thank you,
Akash Jain

Are there any ways to prevent Internet access for certain programs in Windows 7?

I would like to have more specifics:1 of the reasons is not to update and or look for new versions. That could be resolve just disable the option in the applications settings.2nd is because using to much data and slowing down the system in general when works in the background.3rd we need to know the application, to see how we can stop the application to contact the internet. Now I found on a forum ( The Technipages Smart phone, gadget and computer tutorials) but there an option changing the firewallWindows 10, 8, & 7Open the “Control Panel“.Select “System and Security“.In the Windows Firewall section, select “Allow a program through Windows Firewall“.Unchecking the box to the left of the application name disallows it from accessing network resources, while checking it allows access.

SearchFIlterHos is attempting to access the internet. - This program has been modified sunce it was last used.?

Its so Microsoft can track the progress of how good you computer's search for files & folders utility is working, (something Microsoft does frequently with most of their programs on any computer) This is done with or without user agreement and is included in the fine print of some of the user agreements that you have to agree with when you download or install one of their products., if you do not want it accessing the internet you can block it with the firewall ( if you have one that will allow you to block outgoing programs.

Do I need the Netzero Internet Access Installer?

Hello all,
I am currently uninstalling old and unnecessary programs such as old games, IMVU, etc. in order to prepare my laptop for college so it will run more smoothly as well as have more space. While using my Control Panel to uninstall said programs, I ran across a program called, "NetZero Internet Access Installer".
After doing some research, I believe it is tied to Norton Security, which I recently uninstalled because it was getting to be too expensive. However, I do have an anti-virus and malware protection program installed on my computer, my brother-in-law who is extremely smart and knows all about computers installed it for me because it was free and high quality.
That being said, can anyone tell me what this "NetZero" program is for? Do I need it for anything specific after I have already gotten rid of Norton Security? I have Windows Vista on a Toshiba laptop, if that helps at all. Please put your answer into laymen's terms.
Thanks!

Do service providers (DirecTv, Dish, Internet SPs, etc.) program errors into their systems that favor them, and with nothing to lose, in order to get more of our money?

Technically, yes and no. Billing errors, from cramming to false overages, might not be resolved in a timely manner and consequently benefit the provider, but historically it’s been competitive telephony providers like Spectrotel that deliberately engage in these practices. Other times, DIRECTV and multichannel video programming distributors might have poor accounting of (and attendant public relations for) variance in regional sports-network fees by ZIP code. And volumes could be written about Lifeline subsidy abuse.Considering 'errors' in a more abstract sense, wireline video providers have for years used compression to allocate more spectrum or bandwidth to downstream Internet service, with on-screen digital artifacts and poor picture quality as a result. In general, the attitude would be, “If the customer is willing to pay for it, then it's no error.”

Do inmates in San Quentin have access to computers and the Internet? What kind of access?

I volunteered as a teacher in S.Q. for several years, about 10 years ago.  Obviously, James already gave an accurate answer to the specific question -- they get no access. But I wanted to focus on something else he said:  life with the internet would help lower recidivism.  I can understand why inmates might be barred from using the internet, but it is incredibly surprising how little we do to reduce recidivism, and how often we instead encourage it.  For instance, in my particular case, I was teaching math (mostly pre-calculus & calculus) for an accredited AA degree.  (The program is "Prison University Project", http://www.prisonuniversityproje...  .)  However, my work was entirely volunteer, the organizers of the entire program were entirely volunteer, the whole thing ran on a budget which entirely consisted of just a tiny bit of money for a few books.  I can't remember any more, but I think students even had to buy their own paper.  (Inmates have to work while in prison, but get paid fairly little for their work.)  Why was my work volunteer?  Because CA (where I live) passed a LAW making it illegal to spend money providing higher education to inmates!?!I can understand citizens' complaints that inmates are in prison to be punished, and shouldn't expect to live particularly well.  But prison is SUPPOSED to also be about creating a person who can be a more productive citizen upon leaving the prison.  This idea doesn't merely have moral standing ("it's the right thing to do"), it's also about safety and economics.  Ex-inmates have a HELL of a time finding jobs: they often have few skills and they have to report to employers that they spent time in prison.  This is a huge reason why recidivism is so high.  Folks with jobs don't steal (at least not nearly as often, since there is no necessity), and they typically pay taxes (automatically deducted from wages). We spend a LOT of money on prisoners.  I cannot remember the figure now, but it's something like $50k per prisoner, with guards (guards, at least in CA, have quite high salaries), buildings / maintenance, lawyers, etc.  So the argument not to help out prisoners cannot be made on economics.  Between reduced recidivism & the paltry increase in cost, it is cheaper to provide these recidivism-reducing opportunities to inmates.  (Studies have confirmed this, but I unfortunately cannot cite one off the top of my head.)
