How To Get Relief From Over Training Joint Pain

I'm Likely overtraining, aren't I?

Talk to your doctor. That is key. Especially since its been 6 months since your period. That does not sound right at all. You have to visit your doctor.

Regarding exercise, it it great that you are devoted to it- exercise is good, but overdoing it is not. You do not get results when you are doing the exercise. You get them when your body repairs itself and builds itself back up better and stronger than before. Rest is vital. I take the weekends off fully and don't do anything except maybe go to the shops for a walk. No real exercise. Also, every once in a while (maybe 2-3 months) it is good to take a full week off training. Might seem like a lot, but you come back stronger. If you don't allow your body to rest properly, you can actually lose what you have gained. Try to take 2-3 days rest, maybe the weekends and once in the middle of the week. You definitely do not need to be training all the time to get results- sometimes, less is more. Never feel guilty about missing one workout in a while- your workout exists for you, not the other way round.

Cracking joints are not a good sign- look after your joints. Trust me, I know this. Once you hurt your joints- even a little, it can be hard to get back up and running. I hurt my knee. Even easy things like kneeling down or climbing stairs that we take for granted became hard for me. Its taken around 6-8 months or so to be able to kneel. Even now, I feel some mild aches when I overdo things. Please, look after your joints. Take more rest.

Also, a good website I know is DragonDoor.com. Join their forums. There are some great people who can answer training questions. It was very useful for me.

Obviously don't listen to everything people say there- you gotta think first. Get second opinions.

And go see your doctor.

Good luck!

Severe joint pain. Jellyfish sting + Tick bite?

About 5 weeks ago I was stung by a jellyfish on my right arm after a night of camping and bush walking. The sting burned, swelled and I became nausious. The symptoms subsides after applying some cream.

One week later I began to experience severe joint pain and a rash spread from the sting over my entire body. The next day I discovered a tick in my left shoulder after pulling it out the joint seemed to subside. Many doctors and dermatologists could not explain the rash. So with steroid cream and antihistamines it eventually subsided.

A blood test for Lyme disease and the results came back negative.

I am still experiencing severe joint pain. It is continuous, restricts me from all forms of exercise and makes simple tasks such as cleaning my teeth excruciating. I am training to become a personal trainer so cannot wait to be able to feel like a 24 year old again.

Not sure I want to go to the doctors and pay them to say they don't have a clue again. I have started taking fish oil tablets in the morning and I am trying to exercise through the pain. I often collapse half way through a move as simple as a press up where only a few months ago I could do about 100.

Any ideas would be much appreciated?

Can dogs take Celebrex to relieve arthritis pain?

Celebrex is not the best NSAID for a dog.

Many human pain medications will poison a dog or cat.

I give my Bernese mountain dog Mobic (Meloxicam).

Does glucosamine or chondroitin work to help joint pain?

I just read on Wikipedia that the effects are debated as to whether glucosamine and/or chondroitin will help cartilage formation. Does anyone have any personal experience with these? Does anyone know any more solid facts than the couple of sentences on Wikipedia?

Thanks!

How to prevent lower back pain during intense cardio?

I work out 3 times a week, 30 minutes of strength training and 30 minutes of Cardio. I used to do interval training on the elliptical, 2 minutes at level 13 and 2 minutes at level 8 for about 20 minutes. I recently decided to step up the intensity and use the stair mill machine instead because I was not sweating enough and I was not getting tired on the elliptical. I would like to do intervals of 3 minutes on level 13 and 2 minutes on level 8 for at least 20 minutes on the stair mill. However after 15 minutes I get a pain on my lower back that starts to spread to my front and I am forced to stop and go sit down. The pain goes away after about 5 minutes of sitting down. Then I come back, warm up for 5 minutes and do another 3/2 interval for 5 minutes.

To get rid of this pain, I have tried to strengthen my back by doing 3 sets of 10 rep back hyperextensions twice a week. I work on my core for 10 minutes 3 times a week . I also stretch my lower back after every gym session. Yet I cannot seem to stop this back pain from interrupting my cardio . I hate having to interrupt my cardio session for this pain break because after 15 minutes, I am working up a good sweat and I am never able to get to the same sweat level after the interruption. Plus I worry that that sudden stop without proper cool down is not good for me. Also the interruption and resumption is time consuming. I do not want to have to take ibuprofen every time I go to the gym. Any ideas on what I can do?

Does accutane cause permanent joint pain?

5 or 6 years ago I went on accutane for my acne. It was wonderful and cleared everything up and gave me my confidence and life back.
HOWEVER, years later, I have problems with my knees. I can't exercise for over 20 minutes without my knees hurting (whether it be weight training, running, jogging, yoga...etc.). I know that it's common to have joint pain while still on accutane. I certainly did. I felt very achy for a period of time. But, that soon went away after finishing treatment.

So, I'm wondering what the accutane could have done to cause this (if it is likely the cause) and what I can do to help my knees.

I've never been a big athlete (due to not liking the competition) and only participated in dance classes and tennis for a few years growing up and then things like walking/yoga/elliptical on my own at home. I've never done anything to over exert myself and I've never had any type of injuries.
