How To Make Transition In Video That First Video

How do i add this video transition (SPLIT: Vertical Soft)?

You need to download Rehan's Split Video for XP - which is freeware;-)
http://www.rehanfx.org/split_video.htm

OK, that was the easy part. Now, it gets more difficult. I'll assume that because you're using v2.6 that you have a Windows 7 computer. If I'm wrong and you need additional information to install the Split package, click my avatar and email me, please.

You have to create an AddOnTFX folder.
The first part of this video I made shows you how to do this. The folder's name must be typed exactly as I've typed it: AddOnTFX.

When you go to Rehan's link above, in #1 it shows the pathway that the Splits package will be installed to. If you have a 64 bit computer (and most Windows 7 machines are 64 bit), you'll have to change this by adding a space and (x86) after "Program Files" so the pathway for your computer will look like:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker\Shared\AddOnTFX

To add the space(x86), when you see the pathway, just click in it where it should be changed.

Here are some other add-ons/extras for the XP version of Movie Maker. Once you have an AddOnTFX folder, you can add these with no problems.

Unfortunately, the titles and credits didn't get compiled and are available in one big file from Rapidshare:
https://rapidshare.com/#!download|100p9|28823112|install_custom_titles.exe|20560|R~0|0|0

Blaines' website, although he mostly creates for the Vista version, also has some for the XP version.

The XP forum at windowsmoviemakers.net also has a lot of information and freebies. The add-ons and extras here are in the form of xml files. My YouTube video above shows how to copy them and get them into the AddOnTFX folder.

If you are interested in Compositing, be sure to download Blaine's compositing and translucency add-on, then go the Clip Archive, especially Particle Effects but there are others, for clips with black backgrounds that you can composite (overlay) on your own video clips. It's fun.

The clips are WMV files and are ready to use in Movie Maker.

Sony vegas transitions lagging?

It's not a problem, really, just keep playing over that part again and again and it will get faster and faster until there is no lag. It is just because it takes more energy for the program to do the transition so it goes slower at first until it gets used to it after you preview it a few times. It could help prevent lag if you close all other windows, reduce the video quality on the preview screen, or use a better computer. The same thing will happen if you add an effect, or another layer, that part of the video will initially be laggy when you preview it, but if you publish it and then watch it, like on YouTube, it will not be laggy. It's just laggy in the Sony Vegas program.

When using After Effects, is it sensical to make the video first in iMovie first and just use AE to add cool effects and transitions?

It Depends! You can do what makes more sense to you. That’s why you need to plan your work before starting doing it.Trust me, I know the struggle… I use After Effects and Premiere Pro which makes it super easy to send Compositions and Sequences from AfterFX to Premiere and vice-versa (without even rendering the video), and still it takes me a couple of minutes to decide if I want to start with AE or Premiere. What I do, is: I start thinking how would it be toStart in AfterFX and then go to Premiere? and, how would it be toStart in Premiere and then go to AfterFX?After thinking about the process, it’s easy to understand which way would be easier and/or would take less time.So i.e. if I’m going to do a lot of cuts, I would go with Premiere pro first and then add the effects, but if effects are more important and the KEY of the project I would do the effects first in After Effects and then do the cuts and final touches in Premiere Pro!Unfortunately I’m not familiar with iMovie so I’m not sure what can be done with iMovie and what need AfterFX but I hope you find it a bit easier to decide where to start your projects!

How would I edit my video so I could snap my fingers and change my outfit?

Here is one way to do it, with fewer resources, but perhaps a little less accurately. Here’s a preamble of the strategic approach:1.You will have to take two shots: One in first outfit, one in the second outfit.2.You will need your camera to be perfectly still in two takes (important). You will need a tripod to achieve this.3. Continuity: Figure out where you will stand in both shots, you can make marks on the floor with chalk, use a visual cue etc. Figure out what should be your hand movement, so there is a pattern.Taking the shot:Record the first clip of you wearing the first outfit and snapping your finger, while standing on a marked spot. Try to rehearse and figure out a way you will consistently do this. Mind your facial expression, make it all deliberate. If you can get a friend to monitor you even better.Record second clip wearing the second outfit while repeating action.Post Production:Sync first clip and second clip. You can use audio cues (finger snap) to help you with that. Make first footage intercut to second from point where hand motion seems to flow or “carry on” motion. To make the effect more convincing, ‘sweeten it’ with audio effects (magic etc).

Equals three (ray william johnson) video 'cool transition'?

all right so i think the easiest thing you can do, is first just download an episodes of his with the firefox add-ons "1click youtube video downloader"
if you have VLC than just record the cool transition part(but you gotta be fast).
better if you use a video editor like avidemux. with that you shouldn't need to convert the video from mp4 to avi.
i don't know about actually making your own.

How to make 2 videos side by side?

Yes, there are free ways to do this but, first, the problems.

Videos are made of frames and each frame is the same size. If you want to put two videos side by side, two things have to be considered:
1. The frame is going to have to be twice as wide so it can hold both side by side videos.
or
2. The frame doesn't change size when the 2 side by side videos are put in it. This produces a wide, thin video display with black bars at the top and the bottom.
or
3. Each video is going to have to be a. scrunched up thinner or b. part of each video has to be cut off so that both of them fit in one regular size frame.

I used WMM 6.0 (Vista) on a Windows 7 machine to make this video sample of 4 of the ways to do side by side video.
Upper left is Picture in Picture, Squashed
Upper right is Picture in Picture, Center
Lower left is Vertical Split
Lower right is Picture in Picture

If you're interested in doing cloning (two of you in one video), you'd use Vertical Split Soft. It has a slighty blurry line down the middle which helps the two videos blend with each other.
Unfortunately, the split transitions are not free. They come in a Vista WMM effects/transitions pack for $15.

But you can download both an XP version that will run on Windows 7 and Rehan's XP split transitions for free. So, if you want to do cloning, this is the way to go.

Pixelan has an easy to use picture in picture Wizard for $12.
http://www.pixelan.com/movie-maker/perfectpip-transitions-wizard.htm

Once you start talking about picture in picture, you're past the beginner's level and have moved into intermediate moving making territory. You can use all the examples but the split transition for free with a download of Rehan's Shader TFX for Vista Movie Maker.

http://www.rehanfx.org/shader.htm
http://www.rehanfx.org/blog/2007/09/split-transitions-for-movie-maker-v6.html

In the Vista Movie Maker you have to have Shader TFX installed to run all the picture in picture transitions and it has to be paid for to use the split transitions.

I can't add any transitions to my timeline in Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9?

First of all, disregard the advice to go to Vegas Pro to solve this problem. Vegas Movie Studio does about 90% of the things Pro does. Pro adds unlimited tracks and the high-end features needed in broadcast and movie production applications. Vegas Movie Studio can do almost anything a home or semi-pro user needs. Transitions are a very basic part of movie editing and all versions of Vegas can do transitions.

In order to have a transition you first have to have a crossfade. A crossfade is created by dragging the two events so they overlap. The amount of overlap determines how long the crossfade will last. Try dragging the beginning of the second clip into the end of the first clip and you will see a balloon appear telling you how many frames of overlap you have. Once you have set the crossfade, you drag a transition onto the overlapped area. You may actually have an overlap, but simply are not dragging your transition onto the overlapped area. That will cause the red circle to appear. Zoom into the overlapped area to see it more clearly and drag the transition over the area where you see the crossfade. Then the transition properties box will appear and allow you to adjust the properties. If you want to accept the default properties, just close the properties dialog box.

As a final note, make sure you are dragging the transition over a video track and not an audio track.

You can get a lot of free Vegas training online. For example, go to YouTube and search for "Vegas Tutorial" and the feature you are looking for.
