How To Pay For A Dorm

Does the GI bill pay for dorm rooms?

Yes, as long as you are enrolled in an approved program at an Institute of Higher Learning and training at the greater than ½ time level you will receive the housing allowance portion of your GI Bill regardless of your housing situation.

There is some other good data at http://www.idealmilitaryhire.com/education/gibill.html and http://www.gibill.va.gov/

Good luck with school!

Do You Pay Rent While Your Staying On Dorm?

yes it covers the "rent" (and utilities) of the dorm. your meal plan, if you want one is generally a separate fee. dorms often don't have "free" laundry facilities, so you'll have to pay for expenses like that as needed.

When do you pay for dorm living ?

At my daughter's university it is not included in tuition. Tuition is just the class instruction. housing is dorm. What happens with her is her school gives financial aid by semester and charges per semester. The financial aid is given to her on what college calls disbursed into her college account on scheduled disbursement dates which are posted on the college website she logs into, usually a couple weeks before each semester. The college will have their charges for that semester posted by then to her account so it will show she owes them moneyi under the disbursement date. Then on the disbursement date a few weeks before the semester starts her federal aid will get deposited into her college account. The college will then automatically take out their charges for tuition, fees, housing and meal plan. (fees are orientation fees, lab fees if any, towel fee for a class etc) Anything left over is her refund for that semester. Her school uses higherone credit card system and they will give her her refund on that usually during the first week of college onto the card so she can buy books or whatever with the money. It is a real credit card so she can use it anywhere.

The same thing will happen for next semester, she will get the other half of her aid on the disbursement date etc etc. etc. same as above.

How do college students pay for dorms?

Nobody is really in the same situation and nor do people in the same situation pay for the dorms the same way. Athletes may have all their costs covered or some. People paying out of state tuition obviously have a higher tuition bill making covering the cost of the dorm bill harder. A direct loan is not enough to pay for the dorms, a plus loan would be needed. Some peoples parents pay for their cost of living. Some people work to pay for the cost.

If my college age child moves into the dorm, do I still have to pay his mother child support? We live in MO.?

I dont think your a bum, you have paid your support and helped her. You should be proud of that. As for the college thing, I think the only person who can say for sure is your lawyer. Like someone else said......check your original court order and read it carefully. Ask yourself, who is paying his expenses and for his college......and just do the right thing.

Do you pay for electricity in college dorms?

Well, you don't get a bill for your electricity like you would in your own house or apartment, but clearly you do contribute to paying for the electricity in the dorm by way of paying the fees for living in the dorm.

And obviously you can go outside of the school. It's a campus, not a prison.
