How To Recover A Corrupt Adobe Illustrator File

How do I repair a damaged Adobe Illustrator (.AI) file?

That's like asking how to I repair a car after an accident. The answer is that it depends on what's wrong with it. Make sure its name is in the correct format, ending in .ai . If you can get it open, you can copy any salvageable parts you can find into a new file. You may try opening it in Acrobat Pro, or copying parts into Illustrator. But there's no one fix I know of.

I was working with a file in Adobe Illustrator but after saving to the flash drive Adobe Illustrator says that the file is corrupted. Is it even possible to recover?

There’s a known issue with saving directly to removable drives or networks in Illustrator (or opening directly from them). Synched folders might also be an issue. You could try to first copy the file from the drive to your harddisk, then opening it.If that does not work, try and make a new file and then place (embed) the corrupt file in it. This will only work if you saved with “PDF compatiblity” turned on. That way you will at least get at what’s in the PDF. Stuff will be in clipping masks and effects will be expanded. Editability will be reduced. If that fails as well, your chances go down close to zero. There are a couple of internet based services that claim they can recover your file, but I doubt it.Buy page of Recovery Toolbox for IllustratorFix Illustrator File Unknown Error Occurred: PDF2DTP or File RecoverySome instrucctions to try and recover yourself (only very slight chances):Enable content recovery mode | Illustrator CS2-CS5Pasting artwork is slow or file includes unused dataError: "Can't open the illustration..." | Opening file | Illustrator CS4 and earlierHow to set preferences in IllustratorHow to recover a corrupted Illustrator (AI) File

Adobe Illustrator: Why does ai files need to be saved separately inside the picture instead of embedding the file itself?

I believe the default is to "link" placed images in Illustrator, so if the original file changes it gets updated in the Illustrator document as well, without having to delete it and place it again. You can embed images instead of linking to the originals, and I think you can even change the default behavior, though I may be wrong on that. As for specifically how to embed a linked image, I will leave you in Google's capable hands:how to change linked images to embedded illustratorBasically, choose an image file from within the "Links" panel and select "Embed Image" from the panel menu.

Can a damaged Illustrator file be repaired?

I doubt you'll be able to repair the file. What you could try instead is copy the content into another document and saving a new document. In order to avoid any corruption, save the new document with a simple, single word name onto your desktop. If copying the content still doesn't solve it, then you have something in the file causing the corruption. In that case, I would try to isolate the problem by copying sections at a time. Likely candidates for the corruption are linked images, fonts, items with transparency, clipping paths or highly complex items.

Is it possible to open Adobe Illustrator files from last close?

Note : When you make changes in a saved document & have not saved the changes , it is indicated with an “*” astrick sign at the top of .ai* (like this) extention in the name of your file .

Is it possible to recover unsaved data in Illustrator cs4.?

No waranties but adobe programs like Photoshop and Illustrator create temporary files ending in " .tmp " for example photoshop files would be: ~PST#####.tmp in Windows; or Temp##### in Mac.... (### is series of numbers)

Those files are temporarily stored in the hard drive and deleted once you save the file or close the program BUT if the program or computer crashes sometime they stay (stealing space from the hard drive so eventually you need to delete them manually; I know since last year I found I had lost many Gbs of disk space and I didn't know why).

So look for (.tmp files), if you finf the file you are supposed to be able to open it... BUT there are no warranties, if the file got deleted or corrupted then you are out of luck.

In Windows the files are usually in: C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp. (%USERNAME% is "YOUR" username)

Also the files could be a "hidden file" you you might need to set to folders to show all "hidden files"

Why does the effect has changed after I group a eps file in Illustrator?

Can you be more specific about the problem? What kind of objects are you grouping. Which effect are you using? Are you using the effect on an object-level, group-level or layer level? Effects can change their appearance depending on a lot of different things such as the effect rasterization setting, the layer mode in which the effect was applied, etc.A screen shot of before and after would help.
