How To Setup A Mic With An Avid Mbox 3 And Pro Tools 11

Can I edit in Pro-Tools without an audio interface?

You don’t need an external audio interface to use Pro Tools, the simple internal audio of your computer can be accessed with the “Pro Tools Aggregate I/O” or “Core Audio” (if you are on a Mac). There are advantages to an external interface however. Easier control of monitoring volumes, access to microphone inputs and instrument level DI inputs are part of even sub £/$100 interfaces.

Audio Interface - Fast Track Solo VS Mbox 3rd Gen?

What's the differences? Strengths and weaknesses? I'm a music student at university and a lot of the work I do is on Pro Tools. I've recently got Pro Tools 11 and I need to invest in an audio interface to use with it. Mostly I will be recording vocals, piano, guitar, the odd dishwasher...
I'm hoping that whichever I buy will last me a long time after I finish university so I want to make sure I get a decent model!

I've narrowed it down to the Avid Fast Track Solo,

Or the Avid Mbox 3rd Generation,

I've heard the quality is much better with the Mbox, and of course it's go an extra I/O channel and a midi input, but is it really worth the money?

Any info and suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks!
