How To Switch Ethernet To Wireless Network Without A Router

D-Link Router Setup Without Ethernet Cord?

I have a cable modem through Charter on my PC.
I have recently gotten a laptop, and need to set up my router to use the wireless on it.
The only problem is, the ethernet port on my PC doesn't work, it never has. (I've tried many modems, and other things, ethernet never picks up).

Is there a way I can go about setting up my router to the modem, without needing an ethernet port on my PC?

I've had my modem connected with USB, but the router has no USB port.

Thanks for any help!

What do I need if I want to set up a wireless home network, ethernet, modem and router. Is that all?

It seems wifi software just work for the PC with wireless network card. For your desktop,it seems you need to buy one external wireless card.I ever used software for wireless home network,it works well.

Can I connect computers over a network switch without using a router?

As has already been said, this can of course be achieved. Other answers here have focused on manual assignment, and I'd like to inform you of alternatives.1. As touched upon, you can run your own DHCP server on just about any device you have connected to the network. This is a very common and simple task to achieve on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS. No need for manual addressing. An example I'm familiar with is tftpd for Windows, which includes a DHCP server.2. Computers typically use DHCP by default to obtain an IP address. If no server responds, they will automatically self-assign (autoconfigure) an address in the 169.254.0.0/16 block. You can work with this - no manual addresses, no DHCP server. You would have to scan for your peers on the link, or manually read the autoconfigured address of each station. This isn't a great solution, but it is just not true to say that it is mandatory to manually assign ip addresses to achieve communication in the situation you describe.

How can I set up a Wi-Fi router without an Ethernet port on my computer?

Ethernet ports support wired ethernet, not WIFISO, does your computer support a WIFI built in, or a card that has WiFI and an antenna in back? Most laptops have it built inside.

How do I get on the Internet or WiFi without a router?

It’s hard to make sure of your meaning with this question. Here’s an answer that is technically correct: It is possible, but probably not with modern equipment. To get on the internet, you need a contract with a service provider, a modem, and a computer. You will need to connect your computer to the modem. A router is usually included with the modem, because it allows more than one device to share the internet connection. But it is not required if you don’t need to share the connection. If you want to connect with a phone, you will need WiFi. The router/modem usually has a WiFi access point. WiFi requires a router, because there is a built-in assumption that the WiFi signal will be available to more than one device. So, you can connect without a router provided you have a service contract, a modem, an Ethernet cable, and a computer. This is how dial-up connections used to work. The modem either was inside the computer, or connected with a serial cable.*However*, modern computers all use Ethernet, and assume a router will be available to set important Ethernet parameters. I’m not sure how one would get around this. Connecting without a router using modern equipment would be difficult at best, and maybe not possible. I don’t know of any Ethernet modem that doesn’t include a router. If that doesn’t answer your question, here’s an alternate answer. In the US, you can get on the internet for free at most public libraries, many stores, and some restaurants. Just connect your device to their public or guests WiFi. Sometimes their WiFi will require a password. Sometimes you will have to go to their site and accept their terms and conditions. Retail outlets sometimes limit the amount of time you can be connected. In this case, the library or store provides everything you need except the computer or phone (including a router). If you don’t have a computer, libraries will usually also make the computer available for free. None of these options will be fast enough for gaming, but it doesn’t get any more free than that.

How To Setup Wireless Router Without Cable Modem?

I live in an apartment that has the wall Internet connection. I just bought a wireless router and I am trying to set it up by just plugging the Ethernet cord into the wall and in the wireless router. Is it possible to set it up this way or do I have to buy a modem too?

Can I split my ethernet connection before my wireless router?

My high speed internet connection crashes frequently. I don't know if it is my wireless router or cable modem. I want to split the ethernet connection before the router so I can have a hard line connection to my desktop. If my laptop loses connection and the desktop doesn't, I narrowed down my problem. However, don't know if I will corrupt my connection to both if I split the ethernet. Thanks for any insight you can share.

Over Ethernet, how can I connect two computers without using a hub, switch, or existing network?

you can use a crossover cable to connect two computers without using a hub, switch, or existing network. You can purchase a crossover cable from many stores that specialize in computer equipment and cabling.

How do I turn my router into a WiFi range extender without Ethernet cords?

There’s no need to shout.Generally speaking, you can’t. To do this, you need 2 wifi radios on the same band, one to receive and one to transmit. Few if any consumer-grade “wifi routers” (there’s no such thing as a “wifi router” - they’re a router, switch, and wifi access point in one box) have that sort of radio configuration unless they’re being sold as a repeater. In general, wifi extenders are a really bad idea anyway, because they murder your network performance. Slightly better is a mesh system (there are numerous consumer-oriented mesh systems on the market right now) that has dedicated radios for connecting the access points back to your network router. Just remember that for every hop you have to take over a wireless link, whether it’s a mesh system or an extender, your network throughput is cut roughly in half due to the way the network frames are handled.Your *best* bet if a single AP doesn’t cover your space is a *managed* wireless system that connects back to the mothership via an ethernet cable. Managed is important here because of how the access points will need to handle clients moving from one AP to another. Just putting several “wifi routers” around the house is not going to work well at all, because each one becomes an isolated network, even if the SSID is the same.
