How To Take Care Of Todlers

My toddler has mono! Goes to Daycare should I not take him to day care?

you should definately not take your child to daycare if he has mono! mono is highly contagious.

How do I get rid of my toddler's bite marks from day care??

I just had to respond as I work at a daycare/ preschool, and it's truly unfortunate but kids bite and get bit. A new daycare would have the same issues it's usually not aggression it's just that at this age they don't have the words to express themselves and biting is just the go to. Not to mention teething pain and just curiosity. We as daycare providers really try to prevent this from happening but it is next to impossible, you cannot see everything that goes on at all times. So give us a break. But I do realize this wasn't your question, I just had to respond to the fellow answerer's. As to your question I would just make sure that the daycare is putting ice on the mark as soon as possible and if there is still a scar from is you can try Mederma. I am sorry about this I know it's hard but it won't go on for too much longer.

How long does a toddler take to adjust to a day care?

Every child is different. My son did OK when he started daycare at a year and a half. Then, a month into it, he got clingy. Thant only lasted about a few months. My daughter, started in daycare at 6 weeks - she's now 2 1/2. She was fine all that time - now the past week, she's started whimpering when I drop her off. As soon as I am out of sight, but can still hear, she's fine and laughing.

As hard as it is, the thing that worked the best for me (and I have heard others too) was to give them a hug and kiss, tell them mommy or daddy will pick you up, after lunch after nap, whenever, and walk away. What they have to get used to is that you will be back. But, the crying will become more of a habit, than true anxiety if you play into it. This is why it lasted so long with my son - I stayed and I hugged and begged and pleaded - then, after I finally listened to the teachers advice, it lasted maybe a week or 2 and was done.

Good Luck - and remember, you will get through it.

Are you supposed to ignore toddlers when they cry?

I work at a day care center part-time (college kid). I take care of 8 2.5-year-olds and a new girl was crying the entire day, saying "mommy! mommy!" etc. What is the psychology behind ignoring a crying toddler or comforting them? I did try comforting her at first but I have 7 other kids so I have no choice to ignore her or else the others would destroy the room.

Is ignoring best since you don't reinforce the negative behavior?? Or are you supposed to comfort the child and ignoring will result in the child being neglected?
