How Was Jean Cocteau Connected To Music

What are some quotes about music and its power, in French, or said by a French individual?

"A quoi la musique fait appel en nous, il est difficile de le savoir ; ce qui est certain, c'est qu'elle touche une zone si profonde que la folie elle-même n'y saurait pénétrer." (Emil Michel Cioran)(What part of us does music appeal to? It's hard to know. What is certain is that it touches a region so deep that not even madness would be able to reach it. (My translation) Emil Michel Cioran was a Romanian philosopher who published works in both Romanian and French.

What is the best thing about someone born under the cancer sign?

Positive Traits: kind, loving, emotional, intuitive, imaginative, shrewd, cautious, protective and sympathetic.

Negative Traits: changeable, moody, over-emotional, touchy, untidy, clinging, unable to "let go," and a tendency to wallow in self-pity.

Likes: hobbies, romance, children, parties, home and country.

Dislikes: failure, opposition, aggravating situations, being told what to do and being given advice...whether good or bad.

Natives of Cancer are probably most in tune with those governed by Pisces, since Pisces is prone to moods just like Cancer, but of a less volatile nature. This is a couple who will find peace and harmony throughout the majority of their relationship.

Scorpio, another Sign ruled by the element of Water, would also be favorable since Scorpio is equal to the moods of Cancer and capable of great understanding. Cancer finds the Scorpio depth of character intriguing and will certainly appreciate the rich view of life inherent in the Scorpio nature, to say nothing of the awareness and perception associated with that Sign. This is a couple who will likely provide everything either has ever wanted in a relationship. The physical chemistry here is quite amazing...it is long-lasting and only gets better with the passage of time.

I have to prepare a speech on alcoholism & need attention getter & a thesis statement?

"It is not heroin or cocaine that makes one an addict, it is the need to escape from a harsh reality. There are more television addicts, more baseball and football addicts, more movie addicts, and certainly more alcohol addicts in this country than there are narcotics addicts."

Chisholm, Shirley Anita

"It is not I who become addicted, it is my body."

Cocteau, Jean ·

"If an addict who has been completely cured starts smoking again he no longer experiences the discomfort of his first addiction. There exists, therefore, outside alkaloids and habit, a sense for opium, an intangible habit which lives on, despite the recasting of the organism. The dead drug leaves a ghost behind. At certain hours it haunts the house."

Cocteau, Jean "My case is a species of madness, only that it is a derangement of the Volition, and not of the intellectual faculties."

Coleridge, Samuel Taylor ·

"In this country, don't forget, a habit is no damn private hell. There's no solitary confinement outside of jail. A habit is hell for those you love. And in this country it's the worst kind of hell for those who love you."

Holiday, Billie ·

Drunkenness is nothing but voluntary madness.

Drunkenness is temporary suicide.

Even though a number of people have tried, no one has ever found a way to drink for a living.

A drinker has a hole under his nose that all his money runs into.

A few years back I was more a candidate for skid row bum than an Emmy. If I hadn't stopped [drinking], I'd be playing handball with John Belushi right now.

Alcohol doesn't console, it doesn't fill up anyone's psychological gaps, all it replaces is the lack of God. It doesn't comfort man. On the contrary, it encourages him in his folly, it transports him to the supreme regions where he is master of his own destiny.
Marguerite Duras

What was Beauty and the Beast T.V. series?

Beauty and the Beast is an American drama series which first aired on CBS in 1987. Creator Ron Koslow's updated version of the fairy tale has a double focus: the relationship between Vincent (Ron Perlman), a mythic, noble man-beast, and his Catherine (Linda Hamilton), a savvy assistant District attorney in New York; and a secret Utopian community of social outcasts living in a subterranean sanctuary. Through an empathetic bond, Vincent senses Catherine's emotions, and becomes her guardian.[3] The series follows the developing relationship between the characters and the division between New York and the hidden world beneath it. In a twist from the original tale, however, this "beast" does not transform into society's idea of beauty after gaining the love of Catherine. Rather, Vincent's inner beauty is allowed to remain the focus of who he is, and it is Catherine's life which transforms from her relationship to Vincent. Vincent's makeup was devised by veteran Hollywood makeup artist Rick Baker.

In the third season, after the death of the character Catherine, Jo Anderson became the new female lead, playing Diana Bennet, a police woman investigating Catherine's murder.[4]

As the title indicates, the premise of the series is inspired by the fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast"; in particular, there is some connection to the Jean Cocteau French film of 1946, La Belle et la Bête.

In 2004 and 2007, Beauty and the Beast was ranked #14 and #17, respectively, on TV Guide's Top Cult Shows Ever.[5]

Could you recommend any old school movies that are simply must-see?

Evil dead 2-I think rotten tomatoes gives this a 98 or something which is bullshit because it should get 100.In high school 6 or 7 of us didn't know what to do so we smuggled 40 ouncers and pot into a double feature of Fright Night 2 and some other movie. Some other movie played first which irritated us but about 10 minutes into it we none of us could believe what we were seeing. My friend Rob laughed like a maniac for 90 straight minutes without stopping. Every scene is a classic. Bruce Campbell should have won best actor and Sam Raimi should have won director. I'm serious. Their performances still haven't been topped. Everyone should see this movie. Sam Raimi returned to his roots not so long ago and made ‘Drag Me To Hell’ which is a pretty solid horror movie too.Fight club. Mr Robot owes this movie everything.Raiders of the lost ark. ( my friend and I saw this on either a rainy or really hot day and had no idea what it was; our moms just abandoned us at theatre because we were bugging the shit out of them. It was the only thing playing for the next hour so we looked at the poster and figured what the hell. Was brand new and kind of a low key release that steadily gained momentum and turned into a big movie. Blew are 7 or 8th grade minds. Is a long movie that feels even longer in the best possible way.)Halloween with Jamie lee Curtis.A nightmare on elm street. Wes Cravens masterpiece and one of the greatest horror movies ever made. Jonny Depps first movie. All the coen bros movies. That bowling alley scene with jon turturro in the Big Lebowski? The Wizard of Oz on acid.Thin red line. Kind of uneven but when it's good it's as good as a movie can getRear Window. Hitchcock. What a movie. The Usual Suspects. Looks pretty funny now but is a classic.Romancing the Stone. Never gets old.

What low budget or little known movie do you consider underrated?

There are lots a great candidates, but I’ll pick one that isn’t a masterpiece but is tons of fun.Lake Placid. 1999. This wonderful little American monster horror comedy film was written by David E. Kelley and directed by Steve Miner. It stars Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, Betty White, Meredith Salenger and Mariska Hargitay.Lake Placid, to fill you in, is about a 30 foot long crocodile in a small lake in Maine. An unusual group of experts are sent out to dispatch the creature. At first, they have nothing to do but bicker and fight with each other. But then the crocodile shows up, and it’s an amazing sight. The crocodile itself is one of Stan Winston’s greatest creations. This is one of the better films inspired by Jaws, and one of the highlights is the score by John Ottman. The music score is lyrical, moody and hits just the right Jaws-type vibe. It’s worth tracking down the Main Title on YouTube.I love this film most for the wonderfully eccentric characters. As written by the very talented Kelley, this is a bunch of cranky, snarky funny people stuck in a situation that could get them killed at any moment. They play off each other very well, especially Platt and Gleeson as the Scientist and the Sheriff respectively. There’s not a false note or bad line in the entire film. The tension never lets up once the croc makes it’s presence known. A true Guilty Pleasure. Skip the sequels. They left out all of the humor and character development that makes this such a pleasure to watch.
