Huge Smoke Cloud After Idling

Toyota Celica Corolla 1zzfe engine blue smoke cloud after engine swap HELP!?

Bought a 2000 Celica GT 1.8 off of some guy and it needed a new engine.

Took it apart and saw that the guy ran it without oil, cylinder 1 rod broke, smashed through the side of the block, piston broke into a million pieces and out the side of the cylinder.

Shopped around and got a 01 Corolla engine with VVTi from someone who pulled it out of a corolla that was smashed by a tree near the trunk. I wasn't concerned about speed, just wanted it running and figured I'd get some better gas mileage in the process.

Engine went in fine. Started it up and it starts no problem but it can't idle and it also blows a MONSTROUS amount of whiteish, maybe blue smoke out of the exhaust. The smoke ONLY pours out about 2 minutes after starting the car. Then the smoke pours out no matter how many times i restart. BUT, if I wait 10-15 minutes and then return, I get another 2 minutes before the smoke comes out

Now, I've seen blue smoke from burning oil before. I've also seen white smoke from burning coolant. This is kind of in between. It smells a little like oil, but I'm not convinced that is definitely what it is. It definitely doesn't have the sweet smell of coolant.

Here's what I did so far. Compression tested even across all cylinders. I did a leak down to test the rings. Poured a bit of oil in the cylinder, retested the compression, no improvement/change in numbers. Oil is not milky, coolant looks good.

Now this is a huge amount of smoke. It will create a cloud in the road that will make visibility very low when run from my driveway. The only time I've ever seen that much is with a badly blown head gasket. But my coolant level isn't going down and neither is my oil level.

I should mention that a lot of oil ended up in the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe when the previous engine blew up. I can actually see a stream of oil coming out of the tailpipe.

Is it possible that THAT much oil is burning in the cylinders? Could this be left over oil burning in the exhaust pipe? Could this be water in the gas? It doesn't idle well but when the gas pedal is down the engine runs good, just smokes.

I'm running out of ideas here and any input is appreciated.

Thanks so much

93 plymouth voyager van has white smoke coming out tailpipe, why?

From my own experience i had a cavalier that did this. Its not good news. It means that more than likely you have a cracked head or a blown head gasket. Either way it is a huge thing to fix. But if the vehicle still runs good then it wont be the head. But 99% time when there is white smoke you are burning engine coolant fluid. But other than that, that is all i can really say about it.

A lot of smoke coming from exhaust?

99 buick century custom. i've been having coolant system related problems for months now, got things settled recently and things are alright. Last week there was air trapped in the system and i burped it, things seemed to be alright. But as of a couple of days ago ive noticed quite a bit of smoke coming from the exhaust.

The smoke isn't too dense, doesnt have a discernable smell to it, however its white / dark grey and only really noticeable when idling. Other symptoms im experiencing: a solid "Low Coolant" light once the engine has reached optimal temperature. I'm getting heat just fine, engine is warming up no problem, checked my coolant levels in the plastic reserve and in the radiator, all seems fine. (side-note, when burping the radiator last week i almost thought i may have seen the sheen of oil in the coolant..hopefully i was seeing things). Other than that, im having no performance problems and she's running just as normal as ever

I just had new headgaskets put in in January of 2010 and im aware of the "white smoke = coolant burning". So could it be coolant burning somewhere? It just seems to be too soon to have another head gasket go, but with the problems ive been having with her lately, i wouldnt be surprised. I understand that it's the winter months and the cold weather would produce what seems like more exhaust, hopefully im just being paranoid but the smoke is a bit unsettling

Is it natural for an old diesel vehicle to blow black smoke on acceleration? Or is this a sign of a worn engine?

This is soot. It occurs when too much fuel is injected into the combustion chamber for it to burn completely. In older engines, the fuel system will make assumptions about how well the engine is breathing and the maximum injection volume will be tuned accordingly. If the engine has trouble breathing, e.g. due to a clogged air filter, the assumption will be wrong.Modern engines have control units that actively measure air mass and make appropriate adjustments.

White smoke from exhaust smells like fuel + engine is shaking,?

hi last month my car a (2000 pontiac grand am ,2.4L,4 cyl engine) started idling really bad and huge clouds of white smoke that filled up the street came out of the exhaust
from previous experience i knew that most likely it was a blown head gasket.
so i took the engine apart and indeed it had a blown head gasket and the cylinder head needed to be refinished.today i finished putting the engine back together with all new engine gaskets and a refinished cylinder head.

when i started the car however it started to blow white smoke but not as bad as before now it puffs small clouds of white smoke like every second rapidly and it makes like a puffing sound , don't know how to explain it like a (pa,pa,pa,pa,pa,pa)every time a new puff of smoke is released,i put my hand over the smoke and it condensed and i got a gasoline odor.
the engine is also vibrating and making a sound.could any one give me any ideas of what it could be.

i will include a link to a video of what my car is doing if it helps.
it doesn't show much in the video but the engine is shaking allot..
thanks to everyone in advance.

I had put excess motor oil into a car. White smoke started coming out of the tailpipe. It has been three days and everything seems to be fine. Could a blown gasket still be an issue?

If you put way to much oil in for the engine, you may well get loads of white smoke. i did this once on a motorcycle which tended to ‘wet sump’ (the oil normally carried outside the engine, leaked into the engine overnight) every time I checked the level before starting it was low, so I topped it up)the oil was actually leaking into the engine and the oil pump happily pumped it back out after a few minutes, but, I had already checked it and added more.Result was one day I started and clouds of white smoke poured out of the exhaust. In fact only the other day this happened (same model of bike) as it had wet sumped so much the oil was hitting the piston skirt.…And in case people say anything, its an aircooled engine….So yeah, loads of white smoke can be caused by too much oilYou HAVE drained out or extracted the excess though… Haven’t you???Garages have a suction device that can draw excess up and out through the dipstick tube… Pop in and have a word….
