I Accidentally Touched My Ground Wire That Was Hooked To Ground But Not My Amp To My Power Wire

Can accidentally touching the positive to the negative on the amp ruin it?

I am trying to figure out why my amps not working now. I didn't have my cap in my car so I decided to install it and now the amps not working. I tried hooking back up normally and no luck? I did accidentally touch the positive to the ground on the amp so did I ruin it?

Car audio help! accidentally touched positive wire to ground and not constant ringing is coming from speakers?

i have 2 amps in my car, one thats 400watt that is hooked up to my 350watt rear shelf speakers, and another amp that is 2000watt that is hooked up to my 1000watt mtx subs. i had speaker wire attached to my 400watt amp and that was connected to a toggle switch which was connected to 2 LED lights. while i was screwing the wire from the toggle switch in i accidentally touched the ground metal that is on the cigarette lighter with the screw driver and i heard a really loud noise coming from all my speakers except the stock front speakers. i know this happened because i toughed a positive metal to a ground metal. now every time i turn my car, there is a lingering noise that is always on and the tone of the ringing goes higher every time i rev the car up. the noise stops when i take out my head unit(obviously)

My question is, whats wrong. did i damage the speakers? the amps? the battery? is a fuse broke or damaged?

any information of this subject would be greatly appreciated!

Power wire touched remote wire?

First of all, where was the remote wire connected? And what's the year and model of your vehicle? Is your head unit stock or after-market?

Touched ground wire to power wire on amp how do I fix this?

Depends on where the ground wire touched. If the ground wire contacted the power line outside the amp, then it *should* be OK. Excess current would have flowed directly from the power wire to the ground wire, not through the amp.

Some amplifiers are fused on both the positive and negative power leads, so you need to check both fuses.

If the ground wire contacted something inside the amplifier, then you probably blew a power regulator chip or some other part of the internal circuitry, again depending upon exactly where the ground wire touched. In that case, you're on the spot for either a repair bill or a replacement.

Will touching a neutral wire render an electric shock? Why?

A lot of technical answers here but here is a real life answer.I am an Electrician.I have touched a neutral wire many times and have never been shocked. It all depends if there is a load on it. The neutral is the return path back to earth after the electricity travels thru the load.( light, motor, computer….) With no load, there is no potential (voltage) on the neutral under normal circumstances. If you touch the neutral wire and there is a load on it, you may receive a shock depending on if you are grounded or not. Electricity has to have a place to go and is trying to get back to earth. If you are not grounded then it will not flow thru you.If the neutral circuit is “open” meaning that the circuit is broken somewhere, and you inadvertently complete the circuit thru your body, you will get one nasty shock. In fact, some of the worst shocks I have received have been from open neutrals in junction boxes or light fixtures. If you touch the neutral buss in your electrical panel, you should not get shocked. It is the same potential as ground….if your system was installed correctly.PLEASE DONT TRY THIS AT HOME!!! Don't try any of the scenarios above. A shock can be mildly irritating to fatal under the correct circumstances. Please keep these theories just theories.

My subwoofer wires positive and negative touched and now wont go as loud.?

One of my wires that goes from the Amp to the Sub touched together and Sparked. Now I cant get my Subs to go as loud as they used to. I also noticed that the wire that goes from the deck to the Amp was disconnected and there is no possible way for it have get disconnected. The wire that sparked was connected to the amp. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? I checked and replaced all the fuses. They are all good.

Car amp questions, when I move power or ground wire amp light turns green while car is off?

When I move the power or the ground wire which is plugged into the amp it turns green or red even with my car off.
I moved the wire so it stays off until the car turns on then it turns green.
Why is it turning red and green if I just wiggle it while the car is off though?
Could it be because I did not get the connection strong enough?
I really don't want to mess with anything on it.

What happens when a neutral wire touches a earth wire?

Nothing should happen. But you should not connect these. They are connected at the breaker panel. The reason you should not connect these is that they serve two different purposes. The neutral wire caries current. It completes the circuit from the hot side. The ground (earth) wire is not meant to carry current. It is a safety circuit that is meant to ground the body of the electrical box and the device you have plugged in to it. It keeps the device at the voltage level of the ground so that you, and the device are at the same potential. If you have a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), then connecting neutral and ground will fault the circuit. The GFCI compares the current in the hot wire, to the neutral wire. If there is any difference (like when some of the current flows through the ground wire) then it cuts the circuit.Keep in mind that AC electrical wiring should not be played with. If you wire something wrong, any consequence of that will be your fault. Insurance will not cover a fire caused by your mistake. Nothing will cover someone getting electrocuted. Please get some guidance from someone who is qualified.

My car won't start after metal touching positive post and it smoked. Could it just be the battery or something else?

First check all your fuse’s , yes every last one of them , most cars have a large fuse panel under the hood as well as in the passenger compartment, An then you also have what's called a “ Fusible Link “ , These are normally located going to High Amp Circuits , in your car , i.e. The starter , the alt , the fuse panels , Modern Cars have dozens of these Fusible Links , An they have different ratings that depends on the wire size going to that Component ( I think there are about 6 different gauges / sizes ). What happens when in your case a Direct Short , occurs it protects the wiring An various other electric components in your car ,, they melt down when large amounts of current pass thru them , most are covered in a Fire Resistance shrink tubing type material, An they are soldered on to the wiring of the various components , So grab your self a VOM Tester , or a Test Light use one for Computer Circuits - The VOM Meter would be a better choice , An starting looking for where there is no power where there should be power going , There's a old joke We Mechanics have - wires carry smoke thru them An when you let the smoke out there no good anymore, Good Luck , An hey don't let anymore smoke outta them wires , oh An if you find out it is a fusible link - don't let the Clown at the parts store try An sell you a 25 foot roll of it , tell them you only need like a foot ( 12 inches ) of it OK , An if they tell you otherwise go to another parts store as they are idiots ,
