I Have A Buick Regal Gs 1999 And The Driver Information Don

'98 Buick Regal LS Driver Info Center no longer lights up?

I just spoke to my bro who has a 98 Regal GS & he had the exact same problem. The circuit board for that display has a known problem with the resistors literally popping off the circuit board. They have to be replaced and new ones soldered back on. If you are not mechanically inclined for this task, then get a really good electronics person to do it. At a web site called regalgs.org they have the instructions to fix it. But, you'll have to sign up & blog until you get the solution. My bro says this is a very common failing for the Regal in those years. He was able to fix it for about $2 with new parts from Radio Shack. But understand he is a veteran Army electronics expert with 17 years in the service & knows exactly what to do, I don't. He told me & I remembered this issue he had with his car so I called him really fast to answer your question. He's quite the expert on Regals. He own two other Buicks as well. I hope I helped a bit. Cheers!

What mods can I do to my Buick Regal GS?

Depends on if it is supercharged or not. My 97 GS is and it kinda limits what you can do. The computer has everything super controlled to prevent detonation, including cutting the power way down if I don't use a minimum of 91 octane fuel. Focus on upgrading to 4 diode spark plugs and better spark plug wires. Cleaning out the fuel lines and injectors. Making sure the engine is making all the power it can. Like I said, that 3.8 supercharged engine is picky. I do believe there is a Buick regal forum website that will give you waayyyy better answers.
By the way, 83k miles isn't exactly a lot of miles, my 97 Regal RS has 167k miles and my 97 Chevy silverado 1500 has 217k.

1999 buick regal service engine soon light. how to switch off?

Repair the fault! The vehicle is NOT fine if the MIL (MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT, SES light) is on! Take the vehicle to an auto parts store to have the PCM (powertrain control module) scanned to retrieve any stored DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) Make sure they give you the DTC NUMBER and then update your findings!

NOTE: As the other poster stated, after the PCM runs the comprehensive component monitor and the bad component fails it's test after the second failure the MIL will be commanded on again so it in your best interest to FIX the failure! Also just by clearing the light by disconnecting the battery you are also losing all of the vehicles "Adaptive strategy" when the battery is disconnected, there for you fuel economy will suck too!

ADDED: The most common reason for the MIL to be on (with no drivability related issues) is for a stored coed, P0442 for a failed EVAP canister vent solenoid valve!

What type of coolant does a 2003 buick regal ls take?

1986 Buick Regal Limited. My service engine soon light keeps flickering off and on?

In my 1986 Buick Regal Limited my service engine soon light keeps flickering off and on. It's not a constant flickering, it'll flicker for 5-10 seconds then go off for a minute or so then start again. The last time this happened I was low on coolant and filling it up fixed the problem. I have checked oil and coolant and those two do not seem to be the problem this time. The car seems to be running fine at the moment otherwise. I just hate to drive it if there's a problem. Don't want to blow it up! Any ideas?

What are reasons your steering wheel won't lock?

I assume that you are referring to your steering wheel not locking in position after you stop the vehicle and take out the key? There are several possible reasons for this.1. The cog that fits into the detent on the steering column is broken and needs to be replaced.2. The detent on the steering column is worn or broken3. You have not turned the wheel far enough for the cog to find a detent. Pull the wheel first to the left, and then to the right to find the spot.4. The actuator from the solenoid to the cog is broken. To repair this will require the cover on the steering column to be removed, and probably need to have the steering wheel removed as well. Take it to a qualified shop or dealer for this. Incorrect actions could result in damage to the parts, or even the deployment of the air bag on the steering wheel. The exact disassembly required will differ for each manufacturer and possible model of vehicle. If you have a Chilton's manual for your vehicle, you can look up the repair to see what is involve.

Where is the transmission modulator valve located on a 99 buick regal?

I don't know what shop Country Boy worked in, but none of the 99 Buick Regals I've ever worked on had a modulator valve. It is an electronically controlled transmission that uses shift and pressure solenoids. There is NO vacuum modulator valve on this transmission.

Why does the steering wheel lock up while driving?

What Causes the Steering Wheel to Lock Up? | eHow Losing control of your car's steering is a terrifying experience, one that can lead to a crash with horrific consequences. If this happens to you, then you must try to bring your vehicle to a stop at once and determine the cause of steering wheel lock-up before you drive your car again. There are a number of reasons why your car's steering has suddenly locked up including:Key MechanismNot every steering wheel problem occurs when you have the transmission engaged and are heading down the road. Sometimes, drivers report that their steering wheel stays locked even after inserting the key into the ignition. When that happens, the car probably cannot be started let alone driven. More than likely the key assembly has worn out and needs to be replaced. However, before calling your auto mechanic, try to move the wheels to the left and to the right as sometimes the steering column "catches," a problem that can be resolved if you jiggle the wheel.Lock PinGeneral Motors issued a pair of recalls for the C5 Chevrolet Corvette (1997-2004 models) due to problems with locked steering. In addition to being locked while starting, owners complained that in some cases their cars could be driven but with no control of steering. This problem is due to a lock pin that fails to withdraw fully, allowing contact between the pin and lock plate. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA ) website (see Resources) for information about recalls #04006B and #04006C or call your Chevrolet dealer.ConclusionWhile the three causes mentioned here are among the top reasons why a steering wheel may lock up, there could be other reasons. Contact an auto mechanic for assistance, or if you are handy with repairs, consult a Haynes or Chilton repair manual (or anything similar) for guidance.

How do I use my performance shift?

I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged and it has a button on the shifter. When I push this button, a light saying "Perf Shift" comes on my dash. I don't know when to use this button or what exactly it does. I was told it just gives the car more acceleration by staying in a lower gear longer and that the only good it does is using up more gas. Does anyone know if this is true or have any more information on it?
Thanks.
