I Have A Speech Impediment

I have a speech impediment?

HI im 13. I turn 14 in like.a week which means I'm going to high school. I'm not so,much worried about the sound of my voice and making friends it's just about the words. I speak fast even when I'm not nervous. I try to slow down and it doesn't work. My cousin and,me made a video and she said "the bad thing about is that people can't understand you" when I read I stumble over words. I love reading in my head and I read faster but I get called on to read in class and it's horrible. I read slower and more horrible aloud. I stumble over words and everything. I have even been asked by little kids "why you read like that" and I been told when I read it sounds like I have a speech impediment. It's horrible because my cousin said people can't understand me and sometimes she can't so im consistently repeating myself. I wanted to take classes in elementary because my school had a teacher but my mom never signed me up. It's horrible. I love talking and answering questions but I have been told my.voice is annoying so I shut up. My mom even said I should learn how to talk. I told her maybe it's genetics and it isn't my fault you had me with a man that stutters. People when I was in elementary told my mom I should have classes but she shrugged it off. People say it could be brain damage. Well I don't think that it's. I did have high levels of lead as a child but when I was in third grade reading at a high school level they knocked brain damage off the list. I hate this so much. I can't even pronounce words correctly. Even when I try to people still say I talk fast. I can't help it and it's ruining the already low self. My own family is not completely used to my voice. I get mistaken As a five year old when they call. My friends get used to it but... I don't think everyone would be so nice. I love talking but don't because I don't want to annoy anyone. Sorry for mistakes I'm on a touch screen. Any help? I tried reading aloud but got discouraged and tired of the energy it took.

Can a bird have a speech impediment?

Birds only mimmick what they hear, so my money would be on someone pronouncing something wrong, the bird is in the learning stages, or your friend is being "special".

I have a speech impediment. Will my baby have a speech impediment too because it tries to sound like me? How can I prevent this?

It’s unlikely. Children receive most of their acculturation from their peers. Children of deaf adults speak with perfect clarity even if their parents doing speak verbally at all.My mother had a bit of a southern accent all her life because she grew up in the south. Her parents did not and they did not speak with a drawl. On my father’s side, my grandmother spoke with a Yiddish accent. My father certainly doesn’t have one.If you move to England, your children will grow up with an English accent similar to that of their schoolmates.Unless your child is raised in isolation with you as the only language model, I wouldn’t worry about it. If that is how you plan to raise your child, then a speech impediment will be the least of their problems.

Can you be a Policeman if you have a Speech Impediment ?

I have a friend who has a very severe speech impediment where all her words are jumbled together. She talks way too low and fast. This isn't something she can control and to be honest she didn't have her first job until she was 23 years old and even that's just a paid internship so she's not an official employee just yet.

I say go for it, but expect people to be a little confused when you speak. After awhile they'll get used to it. Also it depends on what you're doing as a policeman. You could just have an office job. I know my uncle was reassigned to desk work when his alcoholism was revealed to his staff at the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Kinda funny since my cousins act so snooty. Sorry I went off topic.

Good luck.

Speech Impediments and Tongue Rings?

I have a lisp/speech impediment and can't pronounce my 's' or 'z' very well. I also sometimes have a problem with my 'r.' I've always wanted my tongue pierced, but the fact that it affects the speech of people without lisps' has always held me back. My speech would get so much worse, would it not? If you had a lisp, would you get your tongue pierced?

Does david zayas have a speech impediment?

I have been watching dexter quite a bit lately and noticed that the character Angel pronounces things oddly sometimes, is it just me? (I know he is hispanic and that he has an accent but i'm not talking about that)

I have a speech impediment and I have to present in class. What can I do to not make a fool of myself?

Having a speech impediment will NEVER in and of itself cause you to make a fool of yourself! Nor would a physical difference, a broken ankle, blue hair, asthma, cancer, or any other thing that your peers might notice as “unusual.”You might be worried your classmates will behave badly toward you—and if you are, I get it. I’ve been there. But here’s the thing: your job is to create a quality presentation and practice delivering it. Your classmates’ job is to listen respectfully and supportively, and learn something.Even if they fail (though there’s no certainty they will), you can still try your best to maintain your composure and carry on to deliver a kickass presentation. If anyone makes a fool of him/herself, it won’t be you.A brief story: when I was in grad school I had the privilege to study fiction writing with the novelist Geoffrey Wolf. Mr Wolf also has a speech impediment—a stutter. When he gave public readings he opened by mentioning it. “Sometimes,” he said, “it’s a challenge when I’m reading to an audience. In the worst case scenario,” he added breezily, “we could be here a while.”He said it with a grin and the audience grinned back. We knew what to expect and just rolled with it—no big deal. Not that it’s easy to do that….but it’s one way to pre-empt any awkwardness.Good luck to you!! Believe in yourself—and let go of the stuff you can’t control.
