Is drinking alcohol then sleeping pills really bad?

You'll be fine. Less than one beer is basically the equivalent of nothing. They say to not drink and take sleeping pills because both are Central Nervous System depressants. In high doses of both (or either) they can stop your heart or your breathing. So don't go taking like 9 pills and drinking a 30 pack or anything. You're fine. Besides, after 2 hours you've more than metabolized the entire beer, so it's like you had none.

How can you die by taking sleeping pills with alcohol?

Basically alcohol is a depressant (ie: slows your central nervous system). When combining sleeping pills with alcohol you are slowing your CNS down even more. This can be an extremely deadly cocktail due to the fact that slowing your CNS slows down breathing. Slower breathing leads to less oxygen getting to the blood cells which in turn drops blood pressure, which leads to not enough blood getting to the brain and a coma and eventually death can result.

Is taking sleeping pill everyday bad ????

It depends on the sleeping pill....

if you are taking something natural like Melatonin, than it is not habit forming and shouldn't cause any problems.

If you are taking Ambien or other prescription sleep aids, then you need to be aware that they are habit forming and can lead to drug abuse.

It is recommended that you not take Ambien more than 3 nights in a row... you should skip the 4th night, even if you don't sleep well, to make sure your body is not becoming addicted.

Also the more you use a sleeping aid, the less affective it becomes and the more you need to take to achieve you desired results...

I suggest you try Melatonin, you can find it at GNC, Wal-Mart, Rit-Aid...etc, it is a herbal supplement that works with your body natural melatonin levels to help you go to sleep easily.

I have to give it to my son, because he takes seizures medications that will keep him up, and it works great for him

What happens if you take 10 sleeping pills?

You will just feel extremely lethargic, drowsy, and even intoxicated. You will eventually fall asleep and then wake up the next morning, feeling completely fine.Back in 2006, I admit I tried to commit suicide via sleeping pills. I ingested a full bottle of 50 sleeping pills in the span of a few hours. All it did was cause me to feel and act EXTREMELY intoxicated. I was stumbling around, slurring my speech, etc. Friends and family who encountered me that night mistakenly believed that I was extremely drunk. I felt extremely “high” and staying awake was a serious struggle. I did NOT get sick, throw up, or even feel nauseous the entire night. I was expecting nausea and severe sickness, but it never came. When I woke up the next morning, I felt completely fine. No ‘hang over’ type of feeling or anything. I did not tell anybody the truth of that evening. To this day, all of those people who encountered me that night still think I was drunk that night. I never told them the truth about that night.Long story-short: Attempting suicide via sleeping pills was a complete and total failure, even after taking FIFTY pills.I’m assuming you’re asking this question because you’re thinking self-destructive thoughts. You’re only asking this because you do NOT want to hurt yourself and want someone to talk to. This question you post on Quora is a cry for help. If you TRULY wanted to harm yourself, you would just do so without trying to ask questions or have conversations about it. You would just DO it. So, with that said: I hope you get the help, compassion, and attentiveness that you need. Harming yourself will not change yourself, your life, or the world around you.If you really want to commit suicide, find another way. Suicide via sleeping pills is just TV/movie nonsense. It’s EXTREMELY difficult, next to impossible, to actually accomplish in reality.

What happens if you take 20 sleeping pills?

I thought that I answered the question before.20 pills means nothing because you have not told me what dose of what drug. The most dangerous of the sleeping pills, the short acting barbiturates, have not been available in pill form for many years. (Executioners can't even get the injectable stuff). Valium by it self (no other drugs or alcohol) is so non- lethal, that a potentially lethal dose of pills goes into the many thousands. If I put a lethal dose of Valium into a punch bowl in front of you, you would be sleeping peacefully before got anywhere near finishing the pills. It might take a while to wake from 20 of any sedative. You know what: Just don’t do it.

Is it OK to take night-time cold medicine to fall asleep?

it's not a good idea to take the cold syrup if all you want is the sedative effect, which is caused by the antihistamine. you can try the antihistamine (diphenhydramine or Benadryl) alone, but only for a couple of days. long term use will suppress your REM sleep, which is the part in the sleep cycle that lets your body reset itself. also, you will build a tolerance to the sedative effect effect in about 4 days, and when this happens, increasing the dose will not increase the sedation.

some other things you can try are avoiding the following: caffeine and nicotine 6 hrs before bedtime, alcohol and stimulants before bed, going to bed really hungry, activities in the bedroom that keep you awake (other than sex).

you mentioned sleeping pills, so you might want to speak to your doctor again about switching you to something else that has a longer duration since you also have trouble staying asleep.

How many hours does it take for sleeping pills to kick in? Over the counter vs. Prescription?

A family member recently asked me about sleeping pills. I told them, that for me anyways, it usually takes a few hours to kick in. when they do kick in , they make me sleepy, kinda like drinking some wine. So that's why I take them a few hours before I want to fall asleep . Another male family member, who is also a bit bigger and a little older used to take them and said you should just take them when you go to bed, because I guess they are supposed to make you fall aslep right away??
we disagreed on this....what do you think??
