I Just Got A Factory Unlocked Phone From Amazon

What does factory unlocked mean?

Yes you can add a factory unlocked phone to your plan. My understanding is that Verizon charges you though. Especially if its not time for an upgrade. Nothing is free.

Factory unlocked just means that it's a phone that is not attached to any services or a company. So yeah it's cheaper online but Verizon will charge you a fee to add it. Depending on the phone, in the end the price is going to add up to being the same as hust buying one from your company. Either way they will charge because now they charge $30 when you upgrade on top of the "discounted" upgrade price.

You mention buying on amazon though. I would veto that. Places like eBay and amazon are scams (eBay is by far worse).
A lot of the times they phones are not brand new and the only reason why they are selling them for so cheap is because they have internal problems like needing a replacement part, missing backlight, ink cap replacement etc or they are seller refurbished (meaning another person got the phone, didn't like it for some reason, and sent it back.

I bought a phone from amazon like 2 years ago when I smashed my iPhone screen and didn't want to wait. When I got the factory unlocked one, the screen had scratches all over and the the backlight needed to be changed. I ended up paying the same amount between fixing it up and adding it to my plan as waiting until my upgrade.

What is a factory unlocked phone?

Hello, i have a really crap phone and i saw this cool phone on amazon and it said its "factory unlocked" i know that factory unlocked means that it doesnt have a provider/service. But i have At&t so can i just put my sim card in the phone and all things good?
--- yes

Or do i have to buy a no contract phone by At&t.
------ your choice

Also does the factory unlocked phone have to say At&t?
----- no

------------ Locked phones are most prevalent. Also called Contract phones… they are locked—meaning they only work with the sim card made by that Carrier… ATT phones with ATT sim cards, Tmobile phones with TMobile sim cards.. etc etc etc

------------ Regular unlocked phones are locked that were unlocked by 1) the wireless carrier cause your contract was over and up… or 2) you hacked it….. with unlocked phones, any sim card on planet Earth will work in the phone…. Mix carrier branded phones with other branded sim cards…. ATT phones with tmobile Sims… Tmobile phones on Straight talk….

-----------Factory unlocked……. This means the phone was never never NEVER EVER locked! The factory, also called the manufacturer (Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, ZTE, Hauewi, SONY, etc), sells the phone itself, rather than giving it to a wireless carrier for them to brand and sell….. Factory ubnlocked phones are just like regular unlocked phones… works on any sim card….. these are also the most prized, popular, and pricy….

I want to purchase factory unlocked iPhones from the USA. Who is a true seller?

When I buy Apple products I always go to these websites in the same order of preference.WWW.Apple.com is the official site to buy from.Amazon.com ( buy fullfilled by Amazon - protects you in case anything goes wrong, make sure condition is new)eBay.com (use buy now option, make sure condition is new, eBay can be a little confusing make sure you read the description carefully)Avoid eBay.com if your not comfortable or confident.I also use bhphotovideo.com, macmall.com, best buy.com, Walmart.com for iPads, iPods, matchbooks when the price is cheaper than the above mentioned sites. Also, Apple.com is generally the costliest and Amazon tends to be the cheapest. Also, you can save on sales tax for most states at Amazon and eBay.

Difference between Factory Unlocked and GSM unlocked?

I have Straight Talk, and i'm trying to find a new phone online on ebay and amazon.

Straight Talk says that it only works with AT&T or T-Moblie compatible phones or Unlocked GSM phones.

in the process of trying to find a new phone, i found a great deal online but it's Factory unlocked.

Is there any difference between the two?

I don't want to screw up on choosing the wrong phone again for my carrier.

How to check if my IPhone is unlocked?

I just bought an IPhone 4s On Amazon. Its supposed to be unlocked but when I went into Settings - About - it said the carrier is Verizon 16. Is there a way to check if this phone is unlocked. I don't have a sim card to try it out, and I tried that IMEI website but it always keeps telling me "service is unavailable please use paid version"
I wanna know whether the phone is unlocked or not cause I wanna jailbreak it and get a sim card from a carrier that's not as expensive as Verizon.
So my question: Is there a FREE way to check unlock status without needing a sim card or calling anywhere (I don't have a phone)

I bought an iPhone from eBay. It's factory locked because they didn't pay. Can I get it unlocked somehow?

Where and how do sellers on Ebay and Amazon get factory unlocked phones?

It's pretty normal to be able to buy unlocked phones in many countries.  Phones are only locked by a network operator if they are subsidising the purchase cost via the monthly subscription, so an operator may still sell full price phones unlocked, or a phone can be bought independently from an electrical retailer without a network subscription. As unlocked phones are freely available there is a distribution chain in place to get them from the manufacturer to the end purchaser - the people you mention in your question just buy them somewhere in this chain.
