So I bought a car last November from a private owner and everything went fine. My parents and I were going to wait till I got my license to put it under my name. However, as time slips past we ended up waiting much longer. We had to get the car smogged and the guy had lied about what was wrong with it. It ended up taking us about 7 months to fix it! We got it smogged and got insurance and were ready to do everything now so my mom and I went to AAA. However, they told us that the seller had signed their name on the wrong line. They gave us a form for them to fill out admitting the mistake they had made. We tried to go to their house but they weren't there anymore so the AAA suggested we mail the form to the address on the title so that if they weren't living there anymore, it would be rejected and we could take it to the DMV with the letter showing proof that we could no longer find the previous owner. However, the letter hasn't come back and it's been almost two months since I mailed it out. If I go to the DMV and explain all that has happened, will they be able to just overlook the signing on the wrong line thing? I don't know what else to do.
