Yes you do need new tires for those 17" rims. Try listing your old tires on a bulletin board or a newspaper ad maybe you can sell them that way. Some tire shops may take them on trade toward the purchase of a 17" tire and wheel package. It should fit okay. The 265 is mm of tire width, 10.43 in inches wide at the widest part. The 70 and 75 are the percentage of the width and this is the sidewall size, x 2 for top and bottom sidewalls of the tire. So a 70 would be 7.30 inches tall x 2 for top and bottom of the tire sidewall, or 14.6 inches, plus the 16 inch wheel, for a total of 30.6 inches tall, 10.4 wide at its widest. This would be 30.6 inches tall. A 75 would be a bit taller. 7.82 inches x 2 is 15.65 inches tall sidewalls, plus the 16 inch wheel, gives you the 31.65 inches tall by 10.43 wide. So you see, the smaller the / number is, like 60 R 16, the height of the tire is shorter. A 60 would be 60% of the 265, (the 10.43 inches) or 6.25 inches and this is the sidewall, so it is times 2, for 12.5 inches tall, plus the 16 inches, for 28.5 inch tall tire, 10.43 inches wide.

i have a raptor 350 with stock tires. the tires measure 20x10x9 and the rim measures 9x8.5. One tire is leaking and i just want to get a new set. what is the widest size tire can i put on this rim without it looking bad? also would it hurt if i go down to an 18" tall tire instead of a 20".. i plan on getting either a set of maxxis razrs or itp holeshots. thanks.
Can a car that is spec'd for 225/60-16 tires use 235/60-16 tires?
I am not too familiar with the stock tire size on the baja but as long as they are at least 16x7.5 inch wide rim you will have no problem putting a 235 size tire on their and should have no affect on the car besides better traction and more control on the road.
