I Need Examples For A Satire About Obesity

How to start a satire on obesity?

Hi Indigooh, Satirical Obesity

America’s Obesity Epidemic

The nation's scales are going up and it's clear that we have an obesity health crisis on our hands. So what can we do about America's obesity epidemic? It's not just a case of telling people to eat fewer doughnuts and walk around the block each day. Over 25 percent of adults in 10 states are obese, including in Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, and South Carolina. This is an individual problem. It's little wonder that we have an obesity epidemic.
Food is everywhere - beaming from roadsides, advertised on television, screaming in bright colors from grocery store shelves, glowing in vending machines down the hall from your cubicle. Obesity may soon overtake tobacco as the number one factor in people's deaths. So, what should we do about this epidemic? Read the complete essay here:

What are examples of art for politics sake (as opposed to just “art for art’s sake”)?

Banksy’s pieces reading “I remember when all this was trees,” written by a young boy with a paint can & “Follow your dreams” written on a wall with a workman beside it who had just pasted the word ‘cancelled’ over it. Sorry, don’t know the proper names for these.Goya’s The Third of May, 1808. He also did many other works showing the horrors of Napoelon’s invasion & occupation of Spain.James Gillray was a British cartoonist who had both the obese, dissipated Regency period Prince of Wales to riff on, but also Napoleon. The progenitor of political cartoons, political satire as we know it was William Hogarth. He was so influential it has been said that he ultimately inspired cartoon books. The cravings of the Battle of Kadesh on the outside of the Temple of Karnak. Rameses II is shown and described as a godlike hero who humbled the great Hittite empire. Actually he rushed foolishly into a Hittite trap with only part of his army, was saved at the last minute & the whole thing ended as a draw. It also ended with the first recorded peace treaty ever found.Since art is not just painting there is the ancient Roman marble sculpture, The Dying Gaul, a symbol of the defeat of many of the Celtic peoples. Michelangelo’s 17ft tall David in Florence represented that city states strength against any and all comers. Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator was a blatant ridicule of Hitler and his syncophants. This is a brief & spotty representative span from 1274 BC to the present.

What is a good title for essay on obesity?

Hmm. To make an interesting story or essay, you need a title that gets the reader's attention.Something that will make them then their heads and say “whaaaa?”Get their gears grinding and eyebrows squinting.A good title is always a good starter but you must remember, a title does not make everything. You have to make the content of the essay as captivating and alluring as the title, keep the reader interested.Good titles should be almost ridiculous. Yet still has a sense in it. Use some form of clickbaiting. *winks at you*Something like “Obesity kills!” Or “ _% of people are overweight.” “why get fit?”“Obesity is taking over the world?” This is literally all I could think of at the moment.

When does political satire veer towards being offensive?

It is generally considered offensive to "punch down" - that is, to mock or joke about people who have less than you do. If you are physically fit, it is generally considered offensive to mock people who are disabled, even if a disabled person could make the same comments or observation. If you have money, it is generally considered offensive to mock people who have less money than you do. If you are white it is generally considered offensive to mock minorities, even if a person from a minority made the same mocking comment about their own group (you aren't a member of their group, so stick to mocking your own group). The best humor "punches up"; that is, it mocks those in power or who are famous and/ or wealthy. This isn't a new idea - it has been true throughout history - it is one reason that Kings had 'Court Fools' who could speak truth to power with less fear of repercussion than an ordinary person would face.

Modest proposal solution for OBESITY or something?

k i have to write a modest proposal based fof from jonathan swifts eating FAT babies. yeah so i was thinking maybe write about obesity. or if not obesity some other topic,

sooooo can you guys help me think of some crazy solutions to knock off all obese people...? OR
help me think of other topics to write about with a possible solution?

thankiesss. :D

How do i write a satirical essay?!?

First off, you can do this thing.

A lot of people think a satire is funny. Sometimes it is, but it does not have to be. The book 1984 is a satire on the future of civilization. It is anything but funny, but it does call attention to what the author thought were real possibilities. Johnathan Swift wrote a satire called, "A Modest Proposal" in which he suggested the famine in Ireland could be solved by having the Irish eat their babies. Obviously, he didn't mean it. He wanted to call attention to a real problem so that people who could do something would.

Now comes the hardest part, choosing a topic. Once you've done that, you can sort of let your mind wander. Find some really extreme solutions to real problems facing society today. How about a special lane on highways for drunk drivers, or tax cuts for wealthy citizens whose children become active combatants in the military. You could motivate obese people to lose weight by taxing them for every two or three pounds they are over weight. They lose weight, the tax goes down. I hope I've stirred up your imagination.

The thesis statement can be quite simple. It could be: There should be special lanes on highways for drunk drivers. or, In time of war, wealthy citizens can get tax reductions if their children become combat troops. I'm sure you get the idea. The thesis is easy once you decide on a topic. Everything you write after that must support that thesis. You can even think of arguments against your idea and knock those down. That'll give you even more material if you think your teacher will like that.

Good luck. You really can do this.

Is Swifts "A modest Proposal" an example of Horatian or Juvenalian Satire.?

Horatian satire--After the Roman satirist Horace: Satire in which the voice is indulgent, tolerant, amused, and witty. The speaker holds up to gentle ridicule the absurdities and follies of human beings, aiming at producing in the reader not the anger of a Juvenal, but a wry smile.

Juvenalian satire--After the Roman satirist Juvenal: Formal satire in which the speaker attacks vice and error with contempt and indignation Juvenalian satire in its realism and its harshness is in strong contrast to Horatian satire.

A Modest Proposal is Juvenalian. Swift is clearly not amused and shows great contempt for the landlords who don't care about their poor tenants.

What's a good topic for satire?

FAT America!

and how to get us thinner.

example:
poison the food.
turn sidewalks into treadmills.
stop selling food all together.
you get the idea?
