I Need Nickname Ideas For My Main Character

Last Name Ideas For Character?

I am writing a story and I'm trying to think of a good last name to go with my main character. His first and middle names are Rhodes and Nelson(Respectively). I'd really appreciate it if anyone could give me some ideas that go really well with those names.

Can you give me ideas for the main character's name in my fantasy series?

Thousands of places to find names: college year-books, names from theater program books, movie credits, phone books, baby name books (works for first names rather than last, unless you give your character a surname that is also a first name). Play with the name a little. Consider the name Douglas. You might like this name just as it is, but to give it a little pizzazz, you might transform it to Dougalis if your setting is an alternative time-line. Call him Dougs for a nickname. If you want a plain name (e. g. Robin Grant), go with it. You can always change the name later, but do it before you get too attached, for you’ll reach a point where you’ll find it hard to make the changes after working w/ a character for a while. Sometimes names come late, maybe halfway through the story. Then you’ll find one that suits, and your character will “tell” you “This fits. I like it.” What that really comes from is your storehouse of knowledge about that character, because you’ve thought about that character a lot, and know that character, boiled all the disparate facts about the character into a living personality. That’s when the character “comes to life.”Think about your character, and figure what their most defining characteristics might be. Is she cynical? Trusting? Bold or frightened? Is he (or she) rich, poor or mid-level? Is he a space cowboy? Is Robin a female lawyer who takes pro bono cases for a favored cause? Is she an adult? Or a child? Build his family, friends, and approach to life. Does she live in a small town, a different planet, or a large city in China? Was he born in the 19th, the 21st, or the 25th century? These details (and the story itself) will be what gives the character name real power.

Writing a book. character name ideas?

I could simply give you names from the back of my mind. Gwen is a well used name, but a beautiful one in my opinion. But let me tell you that one book I'm reading has a character's last name that connects himself to a chain of events too overwhelming for him at times. So if it's names you have a problem with, try to think about how the names of your characters will affect the world you set around them. Names you choose can also be given to characters based on what the world around them is like.

Can you help me find a name for my main character?

If you are creating your own universe then it is assumed you will be creating specific types of people with their own languages and societal backgrounds. In that situation I would suggest that you begin your story by telling the reader the general nature of your universe and why you are writing the book in English, for the reader. At the back of the book you can add a glossary that explains the meanings of all your character and place names.e.g.: You call a character “Pupunuggi” and you explains that coming from the province of “Shetland” his name means Shit Head…..etc.This is just an idea of how you can do it. If you are not creating your own universe but writing something Earth-Oriented then it is a really good idea to research names and meaning, for people around the planet. You never need to explain the meaning of names, unless you choose. In textbook I just completed on the Creative Process and what makes Literature I cover the creation of Characters and giving them the appropriate name, in one full chapter. It really would be worth the review to understand what’s in a name.

Main character needs a late middle age name, which one sounds best?

I had an idea for a story last night just before I went to bed. I'm not going to give any details about the story, but basically it is set in the late middle ages.
My main character's surname will be Rolfe, which means peasant, as in those days your surname described you or your profession.

Now there are a few choices I was considering, but can't decide which sounds best with Rolfe. (The ones with * are the most common ones)
*Henry Rolfe
Hamond Rolfe
Fabian Rolfe
Edwin Rolfe
*Simon Rolfe

Other surnames that I was considering is: Foreman (looks after pigs), Nash (Dweller by the ash tree), Payne (Pagan) and Walter (Dweller by the water).

The personality of the character does not affect the name. But I don't want him to be part of a strong profession. The year will be just before Knights Templar is destroyed (1307) and will span till just after the Peasant's revolt (1381) and yes, he does obtain a form of immortality. But I'm definitely not giving away anything about the plot or characters.

Any help will be appreciated.

Sincerely, indecisive. =)
