I Took 8 Acetaminophen Pills. 650mg Each

What if I take 10 pills of paracetamol 500 mg?

If a large dose of paracetamol (>150mg/kg of body weight or >10 gm in an adult) is taken, serious toxicity can occur. Fatality is common with > 250 mg/kg body weight.Toxicity can also occur when multiple smaller doses within 24 hours exceed these levels.Early manifestation are just nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, liver tenderness etc. After 12–18 hrs hepatic necrosis occurs , accompanied by renal tubular necrosis & hypoglycemia that may progresses to COMA.Jaundice starts after 2days. Nausea, vomiting reappears, pain in hepatic region. Patient may also suffer from cardiac arrythmia, defective bleeding manifestation, tremor of hands, renal failure. Death occurs due to hepatic failure.

How much Acetaminophen is too much?

4000 mg per day is the max dose as listed in the PDR and DIH as well as on the bottles containing tylenol. However it is important to keep in mind that not all patients should consume that much tylenol in one day. An example would be a patient who has liver problems. Tylenol is very hard on the liver and is contraindicated for those who have hepatological problems. This would also be the case for someone who is a moderate to heavy drinker. Although they may be able to take some tylenol without posing much risk, they cannot take the max dose like those without liver issues without posing significant risk.

If you took 4 of those pills then you have only taken 1200 mg of tylenol thus far and so you can still take another 2800 mg of tylenol without going over that dose (as long as you have normal liver function and no other medical conditions that are contraindicated for tylenol). When taking an opioid containing medication it is always best to stay within the dosing parameters. Codeine is one of the weaker opiates and so many patients could take a pretty high dosage without risking any serious health effects, but and I stress the word but here, if you have breathing problems like asthma of COPD then you should not go over your prescribed dose because you are more at risk for the opioid component to suppress your respiration too much. Also if you take a dose that is substantially higher than what your body is used to it could produce some pretty sever systemic effects that may not seriously harm you but could cause you to be pretty sick to your stomach for a few days. Really if this drug is not managing your pain well enough then you need to call your doctor and discuss a medication change or a dosage titration. I dont know what you prescribed dosage is now and for how long you have been on it, but you will get to a point where the dosage has been titrated to the max and by putting more of the drug in your system it is just being wasted because there are no receptors left to bind to. In these cases you usually need to switch the patient to another drug within the class.

Can Excedrin and Tylenol be taken together?

Yes, but make sure you know why.Excedrin= Combination of Aspirin, Acetaminophen, and CaffeineTylenol= AcetaminophenAcetaminophen is one of the safest pain relievers there is. The Excedrin combines this already with an NSAID (aspirin; comes with its own pros and cons) and caffeine. This proves effective to treat headaches.Acetaminophen is also one of the deadliest pain relievers if taken in excess amounts.4,000 milligrams=4 grams= MAXIMUM UPPER LIMIT DOSAGE beyond which your risk of acute liver toxicity rises tremendously. It's a horrible, painful death over days, not hours so make sure to check and keep track of your doses from ALL sources (of which Tylenol and Excedrin both are). This risk rises if you've been taking acetaminophen in excess over multiple days. You won't feel sick until it's already too late so if you overdose, go to the emergency room immediately. Be aware of how much you took and take containers if possible.Remember, it is NOT an NSAID; rather, it works in a different way to relieve pain such as that associated with headaches and other non-inflammatory sources, and also to reduce fever. The major risks occur in overdose, and it is generally safer. It can also be taken in pregnancy and by children. NSAIDs, act to inhibit inflammation. This can be helpful after injury (strain, arthritis, etc). They are, however, hard on the digestive system so Excedrin, and all NSAID containing products should be taken with food and ideally only in the short term (i.e., until pain subsides). Aspirin carries with it a blood-thinning ability so be aware of any interactions this may cause.I hope this helped.
