How do I install Final Cut Pro X for free?

It's easier than you think. Here's how to do it in three steps:Get a copy of Final Cut Pro X from Apple. Like the guys have pointed out, it's available for $200 on the Mac App Store. Or you can get the free trial version.Go into your room, lock the door, close the windows and draw the curtains.Boot up your Mac and install the software. This way you make sure no one else has a chance to lay a hand on it and charge you for "helping".And voilà – you've installed the software for free like you wanted. On the other hand, if you wanted to obtain a free copy of the full software my solution for you would be even simpler: don't.

Is it worth getting a Mac for the primary purpose of breaking into Hollywood?

The short answer is, yes. As Robert said, to get a job in the arena you wish to work you have to know how to use the tools the bosses want to use.Now here’s the long answer:I make independent horror movies. I do not work in Hollywood. I do not own a Mac. I do have a day job producing TV spots for our local cable company. At work I edit on a Mac. I use FCP (Studio 7, not X) and After Effects. In my home studio I edit my indy flicks on a PC with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and the rest of the Production Studio. Most everyday computing in Hollywood and in other creative industries, like commercial production, is done on a Mac. It’s part of the “creative culture”. Apparently, Macs are cooler... It is also a reality that some of the software used by Hollywood are still Mac only like Showbiz, although most popular titles like Movie Magic Scheduler and Final Draft are available for both platforms. In a Hollywood-style production office you will be expected to know your way around a Mac for everyday computing because that’s what they have, and you’ll eventually learn the software I just mentioned. More than likely you’ll also be using Word and Excel. From an editing standpoint, Hollywood still operates primarily in the world of Avid. I’m not saying that FCP (obviously Mac only) hasn’t made it’s way into the studio-backed feature film workflow. It has. So has Premiere Pro (works on both platforms)  but Avid is still the editor of choice. Avid is now PC only.Truth be told, there is nothing that a Mac can do that a PC can’t. There is of course software that is platform specific, but the tasks are not.But none of that really matters in the context of your question. You still need to be able to use the tools that your employer asks you to. To work in Hollywood you have to do what Hollywood does. Me, I refuse to pay the Apple Tax.
