I Will Stop Updating Wordpress. Bad Idea

I developed my website in WordPress, and now I got this notification from Google Analytics. What should I do?

I would like to know which method you used to add the tracking code to Wordpress Website. So, the notification you got means Google Analytics is either not correctly installed or if you have recently added google Analytics, it takes around 1–2 days for Google to start tracking your website. So, I recommend waiting for 1 day and clicking on CHECK AGAIN button.Make sure script is added to your website

Is it bad to customize a WordPress theme?

Playing with advanced customization can be disastrous, especially if you don’t fully understand what you are doing, and how to recover from any error that might break your website. This would be your emotional hole :)The thing is, conflicts can’t be forecast as there is too many conflict sources that might arise:WordPress corePluginsMain themeAnd then your codeHiring a (better) developer to customize and maintain your website is an option. Having a clean code, and an occasional maintenance/follow up will definitely help. But it can turn into a costly investment if your theme has numerous conflicting updates/upgrades with the other components. Unfortunately, this can’t be predicted. This would be your financial hole :)You can try luck on Fiverr to get budget friendly developers. But be advised, developers’ skills and quality on Fiverr is very volatile.Alternatively, give WPKraken a shot! You can find there pretty good WordPress developers for only $29/h. Plus they do have a refund policy if the work done doesn’t meet the given requirements + you have Paypal’ Buyer Protection as a backup. On your level, you should stick with what the theme can do, and eventually use a couple of plugins to add some extra feature within the limits of your skills and knowledge. This would be your stress-free option :)Another option is to go with a highly maintained theme, where the author covers customization as a service. Having the person/team who created the code help customize it will minimize dramatically conflict risks. But that’s ain’t cheap :)Good luck!/*Was this helpful?Stop by my blog! Why excessive use of plugins in WordPress website is bad?

I don’t agree with your constatation in the title question as well as some other answers that many plugins installed on the site (or their “excessive” usage) “might” hurt your site.Without plugins WordPress ecosystem wouldn’t be what it is today - the biggest CSM in the world running about 25% of the world's’ websites. The number of plugins isn’t an issue, or their “excessive” use, whatever that term means, but the quality of the plugins itself. Some sites have more than 100 plugins installed and site runs without any problems, fast and secured (followed the best development practice). On the other hand, some sites have issue with only few of those if they are poorly coded, not regularly updated, etc. Before installing any plugins you must be careful and follow some best practice (see below article) to reduce possible risks for your site.As there are more than 40.000 plugins in WordPress. org you can literally find plugin for everything your site need, including security vulnerabilities checking, if you want for example to take care about security/vulnerability part:Plugin InspectorPlugin Security ScannerVulnerability AlertsTimthumb Vulnerability ScannerPlugin VulnerabilitiesI just wanted to briefly state my opinion and many years of experience on this matter - you can install as many plugins as you want, but they must be quality ones - more details on this you can find in below posts:How Many WordPress Plugins Should You Install on Your Site?Plugins and Fast WordPress Sites - It's not the Number of Plugins, It's the QualityHow Many WordPress Plugins Should You Have on a Site?6 Questions To Ask Before You Install A WordPress Plugin

How hard would it be to custom code a WordPress style CMS platform from scratch to avoid all their updates?

Moderately hard. The basics of just showing a page and creating a menu are not too bad, but all the other smaller additional functions would take quite some time - things like comments, screen adaptation, handling multiple revisions, handling multiple users and similar. One of the bigger challenges would be the security and users controls. Creating a system that’s both convenient and robust is not easy. What will tend to happen is that you or someone else will find a security hole. A method to bypass the login to get edit rights or a way of submitting a comment that replaces the entire page contents with spam links. This means you need to release an update to stop that happening - you may well end up updating more often than you update Wordpress.

Can I stop painting in the middle of a wall if I have enough paint to do 2 coats?

You mentioned that your paint is all from the same batch. Does that mean that you have several cans of paint that was mixed at the same time??? Even if so you should mix the paint cans together to make sure that it is exactly the same.

As a paint contractor I know for sure that two cans of the same paint may be slightly different in color.

1) Batch it all together before starting to paint.

2) It is a bad idea to stop painting in the middle of a wall. Sometimes you may get away with it. It is best however to paint an entire wall before stopping. That way you won't have a problem for sure.

3) when cutting in the wall with a brush follow the same rules of being sure to batch all you paint together. I've seen people do the cut in from one can of paint, then batch the paint before rolling the wall. Later they find that the color of the cut-in does not match the rolled part.

Is marrying for love a bad idea?

I don't think you can ever "know" where you're going to be in 25 years' time. And it doesn't just go for marriage, it goes for everything else; it's a fact of life. Does this simple fact need to stop you from working to reach your goals? I believe the answer is no, but it may be different to someone else. I really don't know if the industry I'm working in now isn't gonna go bust in 2, 5, 10, 20 years; does this mean I should get by with as little as possible, and not try to learn more and better myself professionally? I think not. Same with marriage; sure I can't really "know" if the person I'm married to now will be the same person I'm with 20 years from now; but I enjoy marriage, including all the practical and legal benefits of it - so why would I spend my life worrying about what might or might not happen in the future? For all I know, I might be hit by a bus tomorrow, or be diagnosed with terminal cancer within a year; there's always a possibility. But I think the only way I can function is by assuming that things like this probably will not happen; at least not anytime soon. I tend to be fairly confident in the choices I make; I'm not too worried about myself or my husband "changing" because I feel we will be able to adapt to each other and resolve most issues that might crop up. I can't help but bet on the positive - otherwise I might as well put a bullet through my head. Because from a wider perspective, nothing in life really *has* a point.

Is it a bad idea to have a main site in anything but the root directory?

It's fine, as long as you have the appropriate redirect from root, as you plan.  There are no negative user experience or SEO consequences.

How risky is it to use MySQL version 5.5 for a WordPress poetry blog instead of version 5.6 (which is recommended by WordPress as safer)?

MySQL 5.6 isn’t technically any safer. However, MySQL 5.5 will reach End of Life sooner than 5.6, meaning you will have to upgrade or no longer get any security updates. The original date that 5.5 was going to stop getting these updates was December of last year, but they have extended the support for 5.5 until 2018. 5.6 has extended support until 2021.The “safety” of the version of MySQL that you are using is not the only factor that should be taken into consideration. MySQL version 5.6 is slightly faster than 5.5 in most cases, which would make your server faster overall. Also, newer versions generally have new features that are nice to be able to take advantage of. If you are making something new then I would recommend going with the newest version. This will make it easier to keep the server on a current version in the future. Each version will have changes that may require changes to your code in order to upgrade. However, there are cases where you are dealing with a pre-existing system and are forced to use an older version at least for the time being. If this is the case then MySQL should be perfectly fine until 2018.Hope this helps

I am building an image sharing startup. Will using something like WordPress be sufficient as a prototype?

Not really. I would suggest looking at the Mean stack or doing something simple in Meteor.js. Keep your MVP simple (the M stands for minimum after all). WordPress is going to introduce features you will never have in the final application.

Is it a good idea or bad idea to read comments on my blog posts that get syndicated elsewhere?

Ben Nesvig ‏@BenNesvig: Good idea or bad idea to read comments on my blog posts that get syndicated elsewhere?ANSWER:First off, I always read the comments on MY OWN blog. But I try not to read too much on others when I syndicate.Claudia begs me not to read comments whenever I syndicate onto other blogs. Particularly Yahoo Finance is the worst. But I do anyway. And then I regret it. Everyone is accusing me of something. Usually either being ugly, being stupid, or both. Sometimes I’ve gotten death threats in comments. About one in fifty comments will happen to find the right button to push that will bother me.But I try not to respond. When someone comments on the Internet they are just taking the worst qualities of themselves and throwing them at you. This is not an excuse. This is also not saying they are wrong. They might, purely by luck or accident, actually be saying true things about me. But it’s really a mirror they are yelling at. That’s why it’s pointless to look at or comment on the comments. Just like when I respond, it’s not really them I am responding to. I am also just putting up my own insecurities, my own fears, that have nothing to do with the person I’m responding to. And that’s all Internet comments are. A battle of insecurities. But sometimes they are painful. Sometimes I am itching to respond. And on my worst days, sometimes I do respond and then regret it.Better to have spent the time with Claudia instead.Note: I answer this and similar questions in http://www.jamesaltucher.com/cat...
