If I Sprained My Wrist Do I Have To Go To The Hospital

Should i go to hospital for sprained wrist?

A sprained wrist doesn't require medical attention. Hopefully you iced it immediately. That's only for the first day to reduce swelling, but after that it actually makes the problem worse by hindering blood flow to the area. Let it rest.

Get a wrist brace. Avoid all of the ones with elastic because they'll constrict the area, reducing blood flow and causing quite a bit of pain. Foam braces are sturdy without being constrictive but they're hot, itchy, almost impossible to clean, and after a week or two it will smell like a butt crack rotting in the sun. Mueller makes a really good one that I like to use. It's small, lightweight, comfortable, fits either hand and contains a splint. You should be able to get it at most pharmacies, but here's the link so you know which one I'm talking about. I've used this one after breaking my wrists.

Do I have a broken wrist or sprained wrist?

Since we are not X-Ray machines we probably couldn't tell you for sure.

You should probably go to the hospital within 24 hours because after that it can start to heal and they may have to rebreak it.

I think I sprained my wrist?

As soon as I got home from school my parents got into a huge fight where there were names thrown around and it almost got physical. This happens way too often, but I was already pissed off because I failed another test at school and then got dragged in the middle of their fight where they tried to get me to choose sides, Anyways, I went into my bedroom and walked straight over to the boxing equipment I have, particularly the speed bag on the stand, and started punching the f*** out of it when I knew I shouldn't have. It's really hard and I have to wear gloves when I punch it but I didn't bother with them. I was so angry that I didn't feel anything for a while, until the last punch I threw with my right hand. I immediately felt something in my wrist, but I thought it would be okay and was just sore. Now it's three hours later, my dad went back to his house, my mom's at work all night, and I'm by myself and my whole hand hurts. The tips of my fingers hurt whenever they tap on something, and my wrist feels off, especially when I bend it. There's no bruising and it's not swollen, but it just really hurts. I tried ice and it did nothing. I don't think it's broken, but is it sprained?

How do you know if you have a sprained wrist or a broken wrist?

First of all, X-ray is the best way to see if you have broken or sprained wrist. If you can't get a X-ray cause you don't have insurance like me and cannot check to the hospital, see if your wrist swells. If it does, yes it's broken. Not too swelled or not swelling at all? Not broken, and maybe sprained. And even if your bones are broken, it'll grow back united, so don't panic too much.

Get a towel/cloth and soak it with cold water and wrap it around your injured wrist. I recommend not to do it in warm/hot water, since your injury can heat up and swell. If you have a white cloth, wrap it around your wrist and let it heal. This should pretty much have your wrist back to normal.

How do I know if my wrist is broken or just sprained?

Swelling and discoloration are by no means reliable indicators of a broken or fractured bone. Gross deformities can sometimes be a good indication. Bone ends sticking out of the skin, known as an "open fracture" goes without saying. The only reliable method is to either have an Xray, CAT Scan, MRI or bone scan. Normally an Xray with lateral, oblique, anterior and posterior views will suffice. If not, then CAT Scans, MRI's or Bone Scans are even more reliable. That's just my opinion. Rad Tech. ( ^ _ ^ )

P.S.

You said that you fell on your out stretched hand? People who take a fall like you're describing can have what is known as a "scaphoid" or "snuff box" fracture. If you make the thumbs up sign, the scaphoid or snuff box is the dimple or depression on your wrist. You can readily see it. You can put your finger there. This type of injury is particuarly dangerous because blood flow is not as abundent in this area. Hence you could do yourself some real damage. Also you have eight wrist bones. You also have your radius located on your thumb side (scaphoid bone is located on this side as well.) And you have your ulnar bone located by your small digit or "pinky." Here's a treatment plan for you just in case you don't want to go to the E.R. RICE (N) Rest. Ice. Compression (ace wrap) Elevate and Non Steroidal anti-infammatory drugs. Naprosyn or mortin. Good luck chicka!

Can I play video games with a sprained wrist?

Of course it will.

I noticed i mildly sprained my wrist 2 years ago, when i couldn't fully grip my controller and push the buttons.

I recommend resting your wrist for a while, a week or 2 or maybe more to have some little control on your wrist.

If you play now, your writs will never fully heal, it's better to get your wrist better then leaving permanent damage to your wrist...being a hardcore gamer or not.

My wrist is partially sprained (I think)?

So about a week ago I was body boxing with a buddy of mine and I hit him in the back and somehow managed to twist my wrist I really didn't notice how bad it was until tonight. I haven't done any bench pressing since about the time it happend because I have been taking a long needed rest. So after I got home tonight from watching the fireworks I decided I should try and get some lifting in... I tried benching about 120 and my wrist thrived in pain as soon as I got to doing my first rep... I hadn't noticed that it was this bad until now... Is there anything I can do? I don't want to see a physician and need a quick fix so I can lift...Any help is highly appreciated...

Should I wear a arm sling if I Sprained my wrist?

If your wrist or hand is swollen then keeping it elevated in a sling will help reduce the swelling. It will also limit you using your wrist and so lessen the pain. Another way to help your wrist is by icing it for 15 minutes each hour and this will help with pain, bruising, inflammation and swelling. Take your usual painkillers if you need them. Good luck

I am fairly certain that I broke or sprained my wrist, and my parents won't take me to the doctor. What do I do?

First, figure out how to communicate with them. Your parents might be in the habit of ignoring any input that comes from a place of anger or resentment as "rebellion" or "being dramatic". If you're very upset they may be interpreting it differently than you intend. Or, they may be really worried about their finances and desperately hoping nothing expensive will happen right now. (Edit: It is also possible they know from experience that you will heal from this level of a sprain with time. If you ask for their reasons they might explain.)This doesn't make ignoring your pain and concern okay, but you're going to have to work around their actual attitude, even though it's not the perspective you wish they had. Second, write out the effects you're feeling. Writing will help you avoid some of the emotional reactions you might set off by talking to them about it. What you included in your question details is a good start. Try to define what the "something is definitely wrong" actually is. Does your wrist hurt when you pick things up? How heavy does something have to be to hurt? Try to answer the types of questions a doctor might ask before doing an x-ray. Include examples like, "I can't hold a cup of water to drink out of it," or "I can't grip the zipper pull on my coat."Third, give them an answer to "wait and see". Think what you will need to do to tolerate your current level of pain or awkwardness. You can say "I won't be able to [list of regular activities] until I get this checked." Only if it's truly difficult or agonizing to do those things. Or you can suggest, "I think I can handle waiting till [___] to see if it feels better by then." If the problem doesn't just go away, they may be more willing to have it checked out. Most parents will regret it once they realize their child is communicating a real problem and they overlooked it. If possible, give them the time they need to think it through and recognize they need to listen to you. If all else fails and your wrist doesn't improve, you might be able to ask your school nurse for help or contact a trusted relative or family friend who will speak to your parents on your behalf.
