If Someone Is Anorexic Can They Get Pregnant

Can someone be "almost" anorexic?

I was “almost” anorexic, for ages. From the age of 10, I started noticing my fatty thighs, or how I was larger than the other girls. Not by much, only a little bit. But I still saw it.From the age of 11, I got called ugly, and fat, and told by my mother “if you keep eating, you’ll get fat,” and so I decided, I wasn’t going to eat. From the age of 12, I still ate, I didn’t really think much of what I was eating or anything like that, but I didn’t love my body, if I’m honest. I had baby fat, lots of it.From the age of 13, that’s where things went downhill. I lied to my friends about eating, made them think I was okay, only one person knew how much I ate, and he was worried sick. Doubt he’s reading this but hey, if you are, sorry mate.I went on and off with it, don’t eat, eat, don’t eat, eat.Eventually I stopped lying about it, and everyone* knew I had a problem. I was forcing myself to throw up. I was barely eating. I dropped from 45KG to 37.It got bad again in August, and I hid it from my then boyfriend, until after we broke up, and then he found out. I don’t think he really cared though, to be honest. From December 2017, it was bad. Really bad.I delighted in not eating for 48 hours before Christmas Day, and ate only a minimal amount, unable to enjoy myself, food on my mind constantly.I kept books of how much I ate, and this is one of the entries;Yet, I was still sort of convinced I didn’t have a problem. “Eh, it’s not that big of a deal, I’ll be fine,” I remember saying that, I remember it so clearly. And then, here we are at age 14.I’m not anorexic anymore, I’m really not. Sure, sometimes I don’t eat as much as I should, or I complain about my belly fat.But I don’t starve myself, and I’m not border-lining a trip to the hospital, as my mother often put it.I weigh about 48KG now, which is healthy for my height, and I couldn’t be happier.*everyone being my online friends. I kept it hidden from everyone in real life.

If someone wanted to lose the weight they have after being pregnant and are discouraged because it seems impossible, what advice would you give them?

It’s totally possible. Talk to your doctor. Don’t take medical advice from strangers on Quora. That said, take heart.Breastfeeding alone can burn up to 500 calories a day, or 4+ pounds a month. Another great reason to breast feed for a year.Long walks seem to really help. After the first 30 minutes or so, about 80% of the calories burned while walking come from blood fat supplies, which in turn draws down stored fat. Going for 1 hour+ walks may also help with post partum depression, improve muscle tone, and you could get you some stroller time with your baby.Ask your doctor how many calories you need per day, and stick to it.

What happens to an anorexic if she gets pregnant?

This questions just randomly crossed my mind the other day, and has gotten me wondering.

What happens? Would the woman die first, or would the baby/fetus die first?

This isn't meant to be morbid or anything. I'm just kind of curious what would happen. Oh, and I'm neither pregnant or anorexic lol

Would you judge a woman who was pregnant and still insisted on watching her weight?

What you ask and what the link you have given is two different things.Anorexia is a medical condition, it has nothing to do with watching weight. Because a person suffering from anorexia will throw out everything they eat, no matter how much they try to eat. Here a person has no control over her body. So, judging her is out of question. Would you judge a person for pooping in pant who is suffering from diarrhea and their is no toilet nearby? But a person who voluntarily decide to watch weight, is the most foolish person. Because in pregnancy, you are going to get big nomatter what you do. You can’t stop you belly from buldging because baby is inside it. A person who think weight is more important than health of baby should never have babies. It is same as some women who drink or smoke during pregnancy even after knowing that it will have averse effect on baby.

Could pregnancy have a negative emotional impact on anorexic women?

Oh yes. Someone who is struggling to cope with body dysmorphia finds it hard enough to cope normally, but with a body that is getting bigger every day, the temptation to stop eating is strong.Intellectually you know it’s the baby, and you need to eat for the baby’s sake, but the mirror tells you that you are gross and enormous and you feel fat on parts of your body that shouldn’t have fat, you don’t want to eat and get fatter.Sometimes, pregnancy can be the turning point for someone with anorexia, but sometimes it is a disaster.

Why would you get a missed period if not pregnant, anorexic or a fitness buff?

If you stop to think about how much co-ordinated physiology is necessary to produce a regular menstrual cycle, the real question would be, “How come I hardly ever miss a period?”I remember having total strangeness when I went off the pill. My hormones just didn’t want to get it together. Another time I was ovulating when we were at my in-law’s (enormously stressful people) and wound up in my OB’s office, thinking I was pregnant, when my period finally started. Most people should live in awe that their bodies work as well as they do.

How much harder is it to get pregnant with Anorexia than without?

A BMI of 18 or less can make it hard to get pregnant and sustain a pregnancy through the first three months:My Body Fat Percentage & PregnancyOne definition of anorexia sets BMI = 15.3Body composition in adolescents with anorexia nervosa. Therefore, while it may be possible to get pregnant, it is going to be difficult to sustain a healthy pregnancy.(Unless, of course, the question is aiming at asking about anorexia as birth control. Not reliable.)

Why would your period be a month late if you aren't pregnant?

It is not unusual to miss a period. The reason you will not get your period in a given month is that ovulation does not occur. What can cause this?If you have lost a tremendous amount of weight and now do not have enough body fat, your body will shut down ovulation, therefore you will not get your period. This is most likely the case if someone suffers anorexia nervous or bulimia. If that is you, please visit a heathcare practitioner. There is an undetlying hormonal problem that could be tied to your thyroid, for example. Head to the heathcare practitioner for testing. You could have a disease such as PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) which could halt ovulation. See the heathcare practitioner. You could have a hormone producing cyst or tumor shutting down ovulation. Most likely, this is a normal variation but if it persists, good idea to see your heathcare practitioner.A heathcare practitioner may prescribe birth control pills if s/he feels your ovulation would benefit from “regularizing” for a while, but only after ruling out the other possible causes.
