Its a mystery isnt it ! I spent several hours figuring it out one Sunday night. You have to delete the associated email. It may be in your Inbox, Sent, Trash, Drafts, Personal Folders As long as, its in your mail somewhere it will stay in that folder. You click the link under the picture. This will bring up the associated email. Then, delete that email. I was fortunate to find I was able to regain some lost photos, when I discovered this folder. My computer memory crashed, and I found some, I thought were gone for good.

If you want to delete the "attached " photos then you will have to delete the email that they are in, you can't just delete the pics themselves. Once the email is deleted from your inbox and go to the trash bin you will need to delete it from there also.

When I get photo attachments in an e-mail, I have no problem viewing them. However, when they come in the body of the mail, like those joke e-mail forwards (and hey if I take the time to read the usually disappointing joke, I'd like to see the disappointing picture as well) I get an icon which I believe indicates a broken link. It's a small square with the red square, green circle, and blue triangle within. Guys, I'm feeling pretty dumb right now, I cannot even recall what this is called. Since this problem is so consistent, I don't believe it to be the problem of the sender, but of me. Where can I change a setting to get the outcome I obviously desire?
