Inspiron 530 Foxconn G33M02 CPU upgrade?

According to Foxconns own site. there were 2 versions of the motherboard made but they both support all the way up to the Core2quad CPU's.

Here is the CPU support for the G33M Motherboard

I believe your are safe in your being able to upgrade the CPU's.

Hope this helped you,

Just bought a Pentium 4 630 (SL7Z9) to put in my Dell Inspiron 530. But the computer won't boot?

The motherboard will not support a CPU that slow. Why would you want to do that anyway? They typically ship with an E2160 Pentium dual-core CPU, which is more than twice as fast as a Pentium 4 630. (And can easily be upgrade to much faster CPUs)

The P4 630 is *5* years old! It should have been retired ages ago.

Update: Pentium 4 630, PassMark 487. Celeron E1200, PassMark 901. How is a CPU that is about half as fast an "upgrade"?

Dell Inspiron 530 cpu upgrade question?

There were a couple of different motherboards used in the Dell Inspiron 530 and 530s (Slim line version). The Foxconn G33M02 (Dell Part # 0RY007), which your system has, that can only use dual core processors, and the Foxconn G33M03 (Dell Part # OFM586) that can use quad core processors. Basically, if your system didn't ship with a quad core processor in it, it can only use a dual core processor.

I checked the Dell forums and found a list of processors for the 530s with the 0RY007 motherboard.

Intel Celeron processor 430
Intel Celeron Processor 420 (1.6 GHz, 800 FSB)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2140 (1.6 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2160 (1.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200(2.5 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 (2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 (1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 (2.13 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 (2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 (2.80 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8400, 3.0GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8500, 3.16GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8600, 3.33GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0

Also, the Intel Pentium E6500 2.93 GHz dual core processor.

Prior to installing the processor you need to check that you have BIOS Version 1.0.15, or higher, when support for new Intel CPU's was added.

However, this list is incomplete, as I have literature from Dell (sale flyers) that offer the 530 and 530s with the E7200 and E5200. Since the only difference between the E5200 and the E5800 is the clock speeds, it's safe to assume that the E5800, though not listed, is compatible with the G33M02 (0RY007) motherboard.

Just don't forget to update the bios BEFORE you install the new processor, and use a good thermal compound. I'd recommend Arctic Silver 5, here's how to properly apply it.

Can I upgrade the CPU without changing the motherboard?

you cannot upgrade from single core to dual core or quad. When you look at motherboards, you have to look at it's socket type and the type of cpu the motherboard is going to use. Most intel motherboard are LGA775, meaning it has small number of pins, matching with the compatible cpu. But, even if the sockets fit, you still have to check if the motherboard supports the certain specific cpu. It's like puzzles, not only the shape have to be right, but the picture has to be right. But if your motherboard isn't compatible with your cpu, don't worry. Get another one, it's only 50 dollars for a ok(100 if you want a faster speed), and to install it, it's like a complicated legos.

Make sure every component that you have, like the graphics card and the rams fit the new motherboard

You probably should get a new motherboard since cheap motherboards slow the hell out of a computer.

PS, looking a joseph's question, it's total bulls***

Upgrade the processor on my Dell Vostro 200 E6550?

Vostro 200 apparently has a proprietary Dell version of a Foxconn G33M02 motherboard. It will not support a quad core. (G33M03 was the version that could run a quad.)

An E6550 is a Core 2 Duo with 4MB cache running @ 2.33 GHz on a 1333 MHz fsb. It should already be pretty quick. (Which programs do you feel are running slowly?)

To upgrade to a quad core you would swap in a newer motherboard and a bigger power supply at the same time. (Your stock power supply is 300W with 18A on the +12V.)

This would probably work well, a Gigabyte GA-EG31M-S2 motherboard, $52.99,

(The only significant limitation of a motherboard with a G31 chipset is if you need to use more than 4GB RAM, or want a board with a RAID controller.)

Can I run a GeForce GTX 260 graphics card on this desktop?

hi cory
yes there shouldnt be a problem using the gtx260 in the Dell Inspiron 530...i have looked at the pc in question at this page ( http://www.trustedreviews.com/pcs/review... ) and from what i can see you should just about be able to fit the gtx260 inside your inspiron case
however if there is any space issues you could allways re-arrange the hard drives which seem to be attached in a vertical housing..however since the width of the case is standard atx size you should be able to attach these using pc screws horizontally on the bottom two hard drive bays...this will then avoid the gtx260 when its installed
if you still thinks theres going to be problems with the inspiron case then you could buy a inexpensive but good pc case like the "Antec 200 Two Hundred Mid Tower Case"( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168615 ) this is a excellent case for the price and has brilliant cooling including a top 140mm fan and 2 x 120mm fans located at the rear and the side of the case...this will cool the case with minimal noise and keep the gtx260 cool even when under load
a final word on power requirements....the gtx260 is a power hungry beast and requires at least a 550watt psu however i recommend a 600watt or more with at least 35A on the +12v rail(s)...this will safely run the gtx60 along with your other hardware and peripherals
however if you require a psu upgrade i would recommend the "CIT 700W Black Edition PSU 12cm Fan Dual 12v Rail 20+4pin 2x SATA"( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169063 )...this is a inexpensive psu and has a good +12v rail and plenty of power..very stable aswell
i hope this has helped, any problems let me know
good luck mate !

Dell DG33M03 VS G33M02 motherboard?

i have a Dell 530 with a G33M02 that went bad. So i replaced it with Dell DG33M03 just because it is suppose to run a 4 core and it's suppose to be a 10/100/1000. but i cant find the drivers or bios for the board. so i'm going to replace it again but this time with the Dell G33M02 board. Will the Dell G33m02 run the Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8600, 3.33GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0??
