How does Family Sharing work on an iPhone?

My son, fiancé and I have family sharing. My son, who is a minor, asks permission to download apps, free or not. My fiancé and I can both review and approve/deny those requests. Of the approved or purchased apps, anyone in the group can see and download any of the other members ' apps they wish. You don't have to be all on one carrier, either, just be a member of the group. My fiancé is not a minor (obviously), so he doesn't have to ask permission to download anything. Only minors have to ask. My son has discovered many apps and I have downloaded some of them that I really love. I would never have gone looking for them, though, so family sharing has been a wonderful blessing for us all.

Does iOS 8's family sharing work for in-app purchases?

IAP's are NOT shared through family sharing. Although everyone in on the family sharing account can download apps purchased through the shared account, IAP's a treated as a separate entity (kinda like consumables). So if you purchased extra gold in a game, only the device where you actually did it would have access to it. Unfortunately, the same is true for IAPs that unlock stuff. So if you bought additional features as an IAP, they will also only be available on the device you actually purchased it on.
