How do I make a song in iTunes my ringtone?
There is a simple process to do this. First select the song you want as a ring tone. Right click and select "Get Info" then select the options tab. There you will see 2 boxes for start time and end time. You will want to select a 30 second part of the song. Then you will need to click ok. Then you will need to go into the iTunes preferences and click the "import options" button at bottom of box. At top of iTunes click Edit, then Preferences, Import settings, then under "import using" select AAC Encoder". Click Ok, Then ok again. Now you will need to right click the song and select "Create AAC Version" The song will then be converted to a new format. You can now return the original song back to its normal time settings by following in instructions I provided for changing the time above. Right click the new 30 second song and select "Show in Explorer" You will need to make a change to the folder options so you can change the file extension. When folder opens, click on Tools, Then folder options. Click the "View" tab. You will see box for "Hide extensions for known file types." Uncheck the box and click Apply. The folder will now display the file extensions for all files. Such as .mp3 for music. Click the file that you converted for the ringtone. Right click the file and chose "rename" the file name is highlighted and use the right arrow key to move the cursor to the end of the name. You will now want to change the file extension. Change it to "filename.m4r" Hit enter and click ok. Now you can drag that file into iTunes and it will be able to be synced normally. You will now want to change the folder settings back to the way it was. Connect the iPhone, click on the iphone and click the tab for Tones. And check the box and then sync.
