What interesting places can you visit in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada?

Please don't go whale watching. Firstly, it annoys the whales; Secondly, it annoys everybody who lives near the ocean because of the obnoxiously loud engines on the boat. It's nothing but a money-grab from a greedy businessman.

The Royal Museum is excellent for the man-made place.

In early October, see the salmon run in Goldstream Park. It'll blow your mind.

In the summer, head to any one of a number of secluded beaches and make a beach fire (below the high-tide line). I recommend the little one at the end of Newport Avenue beside the Victoria Golf Club. Make sure it's late.

Spend a day out at Witty's Lagoon.

Walk to the top of Mount Douglas for a great 360 view.

Hang out during the day on the rocky beach at Beacon Hill Park at the end of Cook Street.

Walk from Gonzales Hill Park, through Oak Bay, to Anderson Hill Park.

Play croquet in Beacon Hill Park.

This year, on August 12, there will be an amazing meteor shower with no moon. Go to the top of Mount Finlayson to watch it.

See the waterfall in Goldstream Park, then climb up the hill to the train trestle to see it from the top.

Hack up the Henderson pitch and putt golf course by UVic.

I guess that was more than one and one.

How do I find an atheist group up north in British Columbia?

Fly in from where ever you are coming from to Vancouver International Airport. If you are a foreign visitor, enjoy our friendly customs agents - be sure to tell them why you’re here.Rent a car from one of the rental agencies.Drive out of town heading on HWY 1 north.First stop is Yarrow. Ask at the Mennonite bake shop if they know any athiest groups. If they cannot help you, move on, next stop Spuzzum, ask there too.Next is Lytton, then Cache creek. Be sure to take in the scenery. At Cache Creek, you need to hop onto HWY 97 so you stay headed north. Taking an eastern diversion will only get you to Kamloops and Tranquille country, there aren’t too many atheist groups in that direction. Then you get to Prince George. The bars and pubs in Prince George are full of especially helpful people.Still no luck? Next stop is Chetwynd, then Dawson creek. Ask around, who knows. Now you have to head northwest (stay on hwy 97), otherwise you end up in Alberta. Northern Alberta is full of Christians, so you won’t find any atheist groups there. So next you’re in Fort St. John. Nope. If it was Fort John maybe, but because he’s a Saint its a dead giveaway. No atheists.Keep driving, past Pink Mountain (hmmm), then Prophet River (nope). Now you’re at Fort Nelson. Place is full of beautiful women. Well, at least it was 25 years ago. I think there’s a tourist centre, you could ask there. Not like its a big place, but for Northern BC big enough. So now you are pretty much at the top of BC, another 150 kms and you’re in Yukon. So you head west and south for another 1000 km of winding roads, towards places like Toad River (pretty much a gas station, air strip, general store and rest area) and many other small stops like this. Not too many people. More wild animals than people. Now, there is Cassiar, pretty much a ghost town. You could set up shop and start your own atheist group. Maybe restart the town.Dease Lake is pretty much the last outpost before you are in First Nations territory, and you basically have to recognize at that point forward, that you’re a visitor.Anyways, I’ve run out of highways. You could get out of the car and walk the rest of the way like the Jesuit Missionaries did 125 years ago…You should do it. You might not find any atheist groups, but you’ll tour some of the most magnificent countryside on the planet. Post your saga on Quora.

Why doesn't British Columbia use Kijiji?

Actually I think the question should be "Why does the Lower Mainland use Craigslist?"I've found Kijiji is much more active in the interior, while the opposite is true in the Lower Mainland. IDK about the island.I suspect the answer is momentum, possibly abetted by searchability; Craigslist continues to make a huge mistake by not allowing users to search over multiple Craigslist cities, and cracking the legal whip on search aggregators from time to time. This is not a problem for people in large centres, but when I have to search 3-4 Craigslist sites to find things which are all within 1-2 hours drive, it is a problem. Kijiji at least allows users to search province-wide, then narrow the results themselves. Also it is easy to scrape... ;)

Which city is less expensive to immigrate in British Columbia?

Daily costs drop to the East and/or North of Vancouver. Vancouver Island is more expensive than Vancouver for daily needs. Towards the northern edge of BC living costs also rise. Someone said that these costs rise with the distance from the main highways, specifically the Trans Canada from Eastern Canada to Vancouver and highway 99 from Los Angeles to Vancouver. At a guess Kamloops is the cheapest place in BC.Housing in BC is stupidly expensive. We have allowed non-residents to speculate by purchasing residential real estate and it is the proverbial "shoot yourself in the foot". The last government was making a significant part of it's revenue from the transfer tax on homes. With the new government in place housing prices should drop and many speculate that it will be a serious crash as per the us bankers crisis in 2007 or 8. Do not think of buying at first. The cheapest accommodation is in so called ghost towns, those off the beaten track with a shrinking population. Great if you are self employed but with poor internet connections.

What are some fun things to do in Nelson, British Columbia?

Oh. Ask me. Ask me.Tour the town. Enjoy the old buildings. Examine the architecture. Watch the movie Roxanne with Steve Martin before you go.The buildings in Nelson are pretty well intact from when they were built back when it was a boom town. There was no new development in Nelson during the 50′s and 60′s because there was not much economic activity in the area. Now the old buildings are being restored. The Courthouse was designed by Rattenberry, the architect who designed BC’s parliament buildings in Victoria.Explore the shops. Sit on a patio and people watch. Visit a Barber in a 100 year old Barber Shop or get your hair done. Listen to local gossip.Nelson is on Kootenay Lake. Take a boat trip. Try some fishing. Take a drive up the West side of the lake. There is a zip line operation not far from town. If you drive further there is Ainsworth Hot Springs. One of the best that I've ever gone to. Further on there is the town of Kaslo as pretty as any town can be. Visit the paddle wheeler Moyie which is now a museum. If you are ambitious. Hike up to the Kokanee Glacier and spend a night at the Kokanee Glacier Lodge. Bring some chicken wire to cover your tires with at the parking lot so the porcupines don’t chew on the rubber.Just kidding. If you look in the bushes around the parking lot you'll find tons of chicken wire.Nelson is a wonderful town. Don't miss it.

Why is the Canadian province of British Columbia so named?

The origin of the word Columbia in British Columbia is complex. The name Columbia already existed for the region, the British added “British” to it. The word Columbia originated in the US from an anti-British sentiment. It is derived from Christopher Columbus and has been used since the 1730s.In Canada and Pacific Northwest, the name is related to Columbia River and the region around it. Columbia River arises in the Rockies in BC, Canada, it then flows to the states o Washington and Oregon. An American Captain, Robert Gray of the ship Columbia Rediviva, was the first European explorer to enter the river. He named the river “Columbia” which was derived from his ship. Columbia District was the fur trading region in the Pacific Northwest; it included lands of present BC, Washington and Oregon. There were a series of changes in ownership of Columbia District. Finally in 1846 US and British established 49th parallel as the boundary between the two lands, the name Columbia disappeared on the US side of Pacific Northwest. In 1858, Queen Victoria chose to name the Colony of British Columbia for the British mainland north of 49th parallel.
