Is Ballistic Knife Illegal

Is it illegal to own a Ballistic Knife?

There is only one way to gain permission to own a ballistic knife within a week.

1) Gain an airplane ticket to Tokyo, Japan.

2) Find the biggest building within 100.72 miles of the airport where you land.

3) Go northward of the building until you find a traditional Japanese temple. If the building IS one, you may stay.

4) Chant this 4 times while kneeling in front of the entrance to the temple while naked (it MUST be snowing):
私は、私はヌードよ、寒いよ
態度を停止してください?
私は、私は馬鹿だ、認める
私はあなたがそれを好む願っています。

5) A hologram will appear in front of you with an inscription written in one of 7,500 languages, chosen randomly. It will read the name of a nearby dock and a word from the language.

6) Go to the dock. There will be a cruise liner, say the word from the language to the lady at the entrance. She will let you in.

7) 5 hours into the trip, the captain will slaughter every passenger on the ship besides you.

8) In 1 more hour, you will reach Antarctica. You will find a ballistic knife made of unbreakable ice. When you pick it up, a yeti will appear.

9) Slay the yeti with the ballistic knife.

10) You will be given permission to own a ballistic knife in every country.

Hope this helps!

Where can I buy a Ballistic Knife?

They stopped making them a long time ago, both because of their illegality and because they were kinda crap knives. Only hit point first about 1/4 of the time, you could often get just as much range by THROWING it, and (at least on the one I handled a long long time ago) the safety was rather temperamental and would accidentally release when you didn't want it to. The depiction in the damn video game that just came out is highly exaggerated and seems to glorify these rather silly weapons.

Only ones now are probably in private collections.

Why are ballistic knives illegal?

Current law

Similar to conventional automatic knives, federal law makes ballistic knives with a spring-operated blade[15] illegal to possess, manufacture, sell, or import "in or affecting interstate commerce."[16] This means they are illegal to import from outside the US, as well as buy or sell over state lines, including possessing or making them with intent to sell over state lines. The federal law also makes it a separate crime to use or possess a ballistic knife during the commission of a federal crime of violence, with a minimum sentence of 5 years in a federal prison. Federal law does not prohibit the possession, manufacture, or sale of a ballistic knife within a state's boundaries, and the individual laws of each state or territory must be consulted to determine whether possession, manufacture, or sale within a given state is legal (many states have statutes that regulate or prohibit the acquisition and/or possession of ballistic knives, and penalties vary from state to state). Like the federal switchblade law, an exception is made for sale to the US Armed Forces within the confines of a contract, as well as possession by duly-authorized members of the Armed Forces in performance of their duty.[17]

A ballistic knife with a blade propelled by an explosive charge is legal to own under federal law, as it is deemed a firearm under the AOW (Any Other Weapons) category of the NFA.

Why are spring ballistic knives illegal but ones with an explosive charge aren't?

The spring knives are deadlier than you think, from 30 meters away it can nail a phone book to a wall, and anyway the spring knife is a quicker reload and it is SILENT. When a charge goes off people can hear it.

Ballistic knife firing mechanism?

The one they used on the show was a NRS-1 scout knife I believe but most ballistic knives are spring loaded. There would be a very tight coil inside the handle that releases and forces the blade out of the weapon at high speeds. Just for reference ballistic knives are illegal to own and carry here in the United States but there are some exceptions.

I just found a ballistic knife on gun broker, is this even legal?

Not in Florida. 790 specifically addresses and prohibits them.

I read online that only ballistic knives are illegal in Florida, does that mean switchblades aren't?

Yes, it's OK to own a switchblade but not to carry it.  Ballistic knives are illegal....I wonder what prompted that?Florida Knife Laws ExplainedLouisiana doesn't say anything specifically about ballistic knives, but they would probably consider them the same as switchblades."(4) (a) The manufacture, ownership, possession, custody or use of any switchblade knife, spring knife or other knife or similar instrument having a blade which may be automatically unfolded or extended from a handle by the manipulation of a button, switch, latch or similar contrivance located on the handle."Louisiana Knife Laws

Is it illegal to carry a pocket knife?

In the State of Massachusetts, there are specific variants of knife that are illegal, such as switchblades (this includes Assisted Opening in Mass), any knives with double-edges, and the extremely rare ballistic knife.

However, it is legal to carry a conventional folding pocket knife and it also legal to carry a "butterfly knife." State law does not dictate a limit on length. However, the law of some cities in Mass does. For example, in Boston it is illegal to carry a knife with a blade longer than 2.5 inches unless you just purchased it, are getting it fixed, you are hunting/fishing, or you use it for work and that work normally is known to require a knifes (i.e. chef, contractor).

Why are ballistic knives banned?

In order to curb the crime rate in US, Federal law identified a number of weapons which could cause harm in case of any crime committed with an intent to harm someone. As a counter preventive measure, federal law makes it a seperate crime to use or possess a ballastic knife during the commission of a federal crime, violence with a minimum sentence of 5 years. Hence, it's illegal.
