Is It A Cold Sore Or Like A Zit

"lip zit" or cold sore?

Okay, so for the fourth or fifth time in two years I've gotten this hideous "bump" on my top lip. I thought it was a zit and constantly popped it and put proactiv on it (which has worked for every zit I've ever had) but it only seemed to hurt like HECK and make it worse. The bump became huge, red, and extremely painful. I couldn't even let water hit it in the shower. So I did a little investigating and I read somewhere that it was a cold sore, NOT a zit! Soo.. this time I've been putting abreeva on it (since I've suffered from cold sores since I was a child.. however, they were always in the corner of my mouth, never on my lips) and although it hasn't made it any worse, it also isn't getting any better.

Today I looked and there are 3 white heads on it that are poppable, but they dont really make the bump any smaller or anything, they just make gross stuff come out. I got these heads on the other one too, and popped them.

I'm trying really hard to leave it alone and put abreeva on it but its not getting any better, and lets just face it, its hideous. I'm going to visit my boyfriends family who we never see, and I'd like to not have a huge ugly bump staring at them :)

Has anyone had anything like this?? I want it GONE. Let me know if there is a way to get rid of it.. or at least make it look a teeny bit better.

Oh, and I've tried a hot compress, and it just made it really red and painful..

Zit on the lips? Or cold sore?

There are a few questions about this but none seem exactly right for me, so I'm going to ask again.

First off, I haven't been in contact with anyone with cold sores. Last night before bed the edge of my upper lip was turning red and a little painful/swollen. This morning it morphed into something I can only describe as a zit. It's just one medium sized pimple like spot, only in the middle of my lip. It's red and swollen, but has a very distinct white head to it. It's a little painful to the touch. It doesn't look anything like a cold sore, but I've never heard of a zit forming ON your lip. Again, it's only one spot and looks identical to a pimple.

Clearly I'm grasping at straws here because I really, really don't want to start getting cold sores, but is there any chance at all that it's just a zit?

Cold Sore or Pimple???

Hi...

A few weeks ago I had a small bump form on my lip and yesterday it flared up. I popped it and some pus (gross, I know, I'm sorry) and blood came out and then today I have a couple of whiteheads (located right next to each other) on it.

It doesn't hurt anymore than a pimple normally hurts and it also doesn't tingle like I heard a cold sore does. So I'm curious if it's a cold sore or pimple. I'm asking because if it's a cold sore I want to get some abreva but I don't want to spend $16 on that little tube if it's just a zit.

Thank you!

Cold sore vs. pimple?

A cold sore usually itches and spreads at least a little bit. It also gets really crusty. Cold sores are herpatic lesions which can be brought on by stress or a recent virus (also some other causes, too.) Whichever it is for you- hope it goes away, soon!

Can cold sores be painless and zit-like?

My girlfriend had no idea that cold sores were herpes, so she just called this one small bump -- a barely raise, red, painless bump -- a cold sore. Immediately, I was angry, since I had just previously kissed her. I figured that she was hiding HSV-1 until it became obvious. But that wasn't the case.

I showed her pictures of the blisters you get from HSV-1, and she said she never gets those. We looked at some of the symptoms of HSV-1, such as the tingling before the sore, the pain, the blistering, the puss, and she has none of it. No pain, no blisters.

Could that tiny bump, right beyond her lip (it's not on the lip) be a cold sore? Or is it probably just a zit?

Cold sore or lip pimple?

Hello. So, I just want to get some input. I am on my period, thus meaning I have acne right now. I noticed a small pimple (or what I thought was a pimple) forming on my bottom lip, but I have gotten pimples there before, so I didn't freak out too much. I was able to see a white head before it actually formed into a zit. That was on Monday/Tuesday. Today, I noticed that the "pimple" was feeling really hot, but it wasn't painful or anything. My lips have also been pretty dry lately, so the pimple kind of dried out as well. I noticed this evening that it looked different than any other pimple I have gotten, so I started to freak out and put a hot pack on it, trying to pop it (I guess to make sure it was a pimple). This might sound gross and I apologize, but I was able to pop it a little bit, and it seemed to have popped just like a pimple. I have never had a cold sore before (that I can remember, anyway) so does this sound like a cold sore to you guys? I have been reading and cold sores don't normally pop like a pimple, right? Just clear, or yellow or bloody puss comes out, correct? And it would hurt more than a pimple? Do cold sores ever feel hot? I have been reading about the symptoms and it doesn't say anything about the cold sore feeling hot, just tingly and itchy. Also, cold sores take awhile to form and to ooze, and I've only had this tiny bump pimple since Monday. Thanks guys

Can a pimple turn into a cold sore?

i've had a pimple next to my mouth for about 4 days now, and because i've been opening my mouth to talk and eat, it's become irritated. it no longer is a pimple, rather it seems like a cut next to my lip. is this a cold sore? i want it to heal pretty fast, but it's becoming increasingly difficult because i need to open my mouth to eat food and talk. any suggestions?

Can a pimple turn into a cold sore? If so, how do you treat it?

Far as I know, no. According to the dictionary, a cold sore is: “an inflamed blister in or near the mouth, caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus.”Most people get it once or twice in your lifetime. It may be easy to mistake one for the other, but you can get medicated cream from your local pharmacy. There’s several labeled specifically for use with cold sores. Please go to a doctor if one lasts longer than 24 hours, your eyes get inflamed or it looks highly infected or has a noticeable odor. Don’t pop them, they’re contagious blisters!

Is it ok to put pimple cream on a cold sore?

The absolute best treatment is any cream containing 5%w/w Acyclovir. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug. Brand names here include Zovirax and Blistex. You put the cream on 5 times per day as soon as you feel the first tingle of a cold sore and it won't develop. It's brilliant! Look at this site for further information.

I don't know where you are but shop around, as I find Blistex is half the price of Zovirax and has exactly the same acyclovir content.

What are the similarities between cold sore and pimples?

Sometimes people tend to confuse pimple with cold sores. However, these are two different skin disorders.Pimples contain pus, while cold sores contain clear fluid in blisters.Treatments for pimples include benzoyl peroxide and/or antibiotics, while treatments for cold sores include antiviral medication. Alternative medicines may be helpful.A pimple is caused by clogged pores full of pus and bacteria, while Cold Sore is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV).A pimple may be painful when touched, while the Cold Sore can be itchy and tingling even without touching. Thanks for reading…
