Is It Normal For My Retainer To Be A Little Loose

Is it normal for my retainer to start getting loose?

I have gotten my braces off a few weeks ago and i dont wear my retainer 24/7 because its so impractical, i can barely speak with it. (Try taking foreign language class with a severe lisp problem giong on and working as a cashier at a fruitshop.)
I do wear it while i am at home though, and ALWAYS wear it while i sleep.

I feel like it has gotten looser. I can push up with my tongue and it will come down a little bit. When i first put it in if i push up it will come completely out but after having it in for about 10 minutes it feels tighter, when i wake up they dont come out tooo easily.
Is it normal for it to get looser or my teeth to move or seomthing?
I know i should wear it all the time but it really is impractical.

Loose Retainer, is it normal?

When I first got my retainer a week ago, they were tight and fit perfect. but now my top retainer is loose, i can move it and pop out it with my tongue. My bottom retainer fits perfect still.
Should I go back to my ortho to get it tightened or is it normal for it to be loose? Will they have to make a whole new retainer? or can he just fix it himself?

Ok so why is my retainer loose now?

Yes, your teeth can move very slightly in just a matter of days...but they can also move back just as quickly. Keep wear your retainer day and night for a few days and I bet it will start fitting correctly again. If it doesn't, make an appointment with your orthodontist, they'll be able to make a small adjustment and have it fitting correctly in no time. Good luck! (and be good about wearing that retainer!)

Upper Retainers feel Loose, is it normal?

I just got my braces removed 3 days ago, and i got my retainers. I keep it on 24/7 except for when i brush like the ortho said. But if i tried to pull back my upper lip ,i can feel my retainer slid a bit and i feel as if my retainer gets looser everyday. Is it normal? Thnx.

What if my retainers feel loose?

If your retainer is loose and not fitting properly, your teeth could be starting to shift. Especially since you haven't had your braces off very long.
Call and make an appointment with your orthodontist. Tell them your retainer feels loose, you think your teeth may be moving, and be sure and take your retainer with you.

How do I tell if my retainer is too loose?

Well you know for sure if your retainer is too loose if your teeth start to shift
After you get your braces off, if not kept under complete retainer care for a certain amount of time , it is very common for your teeth to shift, because your teeth basically have memory
If you are constantly wearing them and you notice your teeth are looking a little bit crooked or higher, or what ever the problem was before the braces, then you know it is too loose.
Also, if you feel like it is falling out. You should never feel it coming out because it should actually feel very tight at first. kind of like when you get a new set of braces. It will feel very tight at first ...and that's how it's supposed to feel.

Loose teeth after I wore my retainer?

I have retainers also. Yeah they are a pain, but you have to keep them in 24 hours a day, at least until the orthodontist says that you are allowed to only wear them at night.

I have gone days without wearing my retainers, and the same thing has happened. Just wear them, and take the pain, if you can't handle the pain then take some Ibprofun or something!! If they don't move back, and your retainers don't fit like they are supposed to soon, go to the orthodontist and ask for advice!

Hope this helped!!

My fixed wire retainer has become a little loose. How long can I wait before seeing my orthodontist?

Hi Dr. Anum, this question reminds me of the time when I had the same problem myself. The fixed retainer is generally bonded from canine to canine or first premolar (bicuspid) to first premolar depending upon your case. The glue here is a dental bio - compatible cement like composites or glass ionomer cement for example. Now over time, as you eat food and masticate, the occlusal pressures involved weakens the bond holding the teeth together. Since your canines and bicuspids almost co-incide with the "cornerstone " of the mouth, Physics helps keep the occlusal load off and hence the bond remains intact. As You move towards the lataral incisors and the central incisors, the glue of the retainer is subject to substantially higher occlusal loads on account of these teeth lying almost perpendicular in a straight line to the occlusal loads.Hence, over time these glues might come off.... as most glue does. Yours has definitely come off.Visit a dentist, could be any... As far as rebonding a broken retainer goes, the work done is the same in both the first and the third world countries. Get it refixed asap. It won't take more than 20 mins for a decent doctor.Coming to the point where you ask what happens when if you don't get it fixed. You gotta get it fixed at the earliest because teeth once moved orthodontically will be liable to drift and *very importantly * ruin the alignment of your teeth for which you had to wear those painful braces. Regarding how much of de-alignment can occur.... that process has already started. Visit a dentist to stop and rectify it.Footnote : Thanks for the A to A. I had the same problem myself in dental school but procrastinated doing what I told you. Today after like 3 months of *not getting* MY retainers fixed... the mirror tells me that there is a 1-1.5 mm of gap between my central incisors now which I had paid for with my father's money to get fixed... You might wanna take my advice JUST don't follow me example. Cheers.

Why does my retainer feel loose?

i wear it every day, except for when i eat and if i hang with friends and have to talk,..so i wear it more than 15 hours every day... but it feels like it can fall out on its own... its very easy to take out unlike a couple weeks ago when i got it...
i do NOT have the money for a new one:/ and i really dont want my teeth to move so how can i help this?

Loose permanent tooth and retainers?

I've been wearing a retainer (braces are still there since I need a powerchain) for a month or so, and I recently noticed a loose tooth--my left canine (if you're looking at me). Whenever I wear my retainer, it pushes the tooth outward. Is this normal? Is that supposed to happen? There's an unusually large gap between the canine and the tooth behind it as well. I can't go to the dentist until Tuesday, so I'd appreciate some advice for taking care of that tooth until then, because I'm worried about it--I've never noticed it was loose before.
