Is it normal for a 12 year old to be afraid of the dark?

Dude, I just turned nineteen. I’m TERRIFIED of the dark. Especially when I’m alone. I watched way too many videos of horror games with bad jumpscares, so every time the lights are off—even if I’m lying in bed with my laptop—I have to hold my dog and find a light somewhere. Going to sleep isn’t so bad, because I can pull my blanket over my head.I don’t know if it’s normal, but it’s much more common than you think.EDIT:I forgot to mention how helpful animals are. If you have pets, or you might be able to get one soon, they’re extremely comforting. I tell myself that if my dog isn’t growling, there’s nothing there, because he growls at EVERYTHING. I know it sounds babyish, but sometimes it’s nice just to have a friend with you.

Is it normal for teens to be afraid of the dark?

It's perfectly normal, everyone is scared of something no matter how old you are or what it is

Is it normal to be afraid of the dark?

I don't know why I'm afraid, but I have to sleep with nightlight on. I have never slept In a dark room unless someone is sleeping right next to me. Like my boyfriend or something and then I can sleep well without any lights.
And I only use nightlight when someone is in the same house as I. If I'm alone in a house, I keep the lamp on. I don't know wtf is wrong with me but i can't even bare to live alone in a house sometimes. Im also terrified of bugs but not as much as I hate the dark

How do I get over this fear? It's really annoying

Is it normal to be afraid of the dark at 16 years old?

It's a fear I've never really gotten over, I had to sleep with my light on, my tv, *and* a night light on when I went to sleep all through elementary school--eventually I got over it. I hate being in the dark, especially if I'm by myself; I can't even walk downstairs in my house without getting paranoid! I'm always looking around, turning on all the lights, constantly peering over my shoulder...I guess I'm just terrified something is going to grab me. Thankfully, I no longer sleep with a night light, but, however I do still keep my TV on all night when I'm sleeping. If I turn the TV off, and the room is pitch black, I freak out. I'm not as afraid of course if someone is with me, I still think it's a little odd, though! Will I grow out of this?

I am 14 and I am afraid of the dark, is that bad?

I am 35 and I'm still afraid of the dark. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. If your fear is to an extreme then I recommend seeing a counsellor, but I just have little nightlights plugged in throughout our house and usually fall asleep with the TV on. I also enjoy having faux candles around. If the power ever goes off I can light up the candles and it looks nice too. Do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel comfortable. I think it's a natural fear.

Is it normal to be afraid of silence or the dark?

As humans, we are still animals with some minor instinct left over in us.We fear the dark because it is unknown to us, it is just a dark place with no identifiable features. We have a feeling of being exposed, and our inability to spot threats. As for silence, it’s a fear of something coming or something popping out of no where. A feeling of anxiety, or anticipation of something. Now this could also be a phobia called sedatephobia, a fear of silence.

I am 19 and afraid of the dark, is that normal? any tips?

You sound just like me and I am the same age and everything. Everyone is afraid of something and it usually stems from something in our past or a horrible experience even. So i wouldn't say that your fear is not normal. What I do is usually turn on a neighboring room light. Like I will turn on the kitchen stove light or keep a light on in a room that doesn't have someone sleeping in it but is still close enough to illuminate the door area for me without blinding my eyeballs. Also I have a nightlight on each wall in a blue toned light because it lights up the room but doesn't penetrate my eyes when im trying to sleep. Also keep a flashlight near your bed just in case you want to see something real fast. I hate noise but you might not so try listening to soft music which will help keep your mind off of the what ifs. Sleep with something that comforts you and also i find that this works for me those scented wallflowers that you plug in they for whatever reason the smell relaxed me. Hope that helps :)

Is it normal to be afraid of ghosts and the dark and be unable to sleep alone?

What exactly are you afraid of?Ghosts? - You do realize that even if ghosts existed (which they don’t) they would appear to you at any hour of the day or night and regardless of whether or not there are other people present, right? The presence of daylight or other people in no manner would prevent the spirit of an undead person from appearing, if such entities did indeed exist. The dark? - There is nothing in the dark that won’t be there in the light. If you currently live in a high crime area, then you might want to move as crime can occur at any time, day or night. If you are afraid of pests, then having an exterminator come in can rid you of that problem. If this is an existential fear which is making it impossible for you to function normally, then you are going to have to seek professional assistance. There is no “curing oneself” of this type of emotional reaction and trying to do so will simply waste valuable time and effort that could be better used.Again, there is nothing in the dark that isn’t there when the lights are on and the lights won’t prevent anything bad from happening to you.

15 year old afraid of the dark???

Don't be ashamed of it, fear of the dark is a real fear, it is the unknown, you can't see what is there, even the your mind tells you that nothing is there you still can't believe it or accept it, as your self confidence grows your fear will fade, i promise you that there are many other 15/16 year olds out there who have exactly the same fear, don't allow anyone to tell you that you are silly and don'e allow anyone to try to force you to face the dark, it will only make things worse. Take care and good luck.
