Is It Ok To Leave A Puppy On Its Own For 9 Hours Only 1 Day A Week Would Have Company The Rest Of

How many hours can I leave my 9-week old puppy home alone?

Every one has to work otherwise how will we afford the cost of care, however, if you do leave home alone all day expect to come home to a huge potty mess on the floor, also, pups are....well.....messy little buggars and think nothing of walking and standing and spreading the feces all over the place and up the walls and floor and all over themselves (mine did and I was only gone 2 hours).

Are you able to come home during lunch to let out mid day? Cause that's what you are going to need to do for the first several months. Once you have a puppy you have to change your schedule to accommodate your dog, but only for the first several months. A 9 week old pup can only hold it for 2 hours MAX. I don't suggest leaving a bowl of water or food available, instead put about 10 ice cubes in her bowl that way she can get fluids but not enough to fill her bladder. Definitely make sure she gets out a few times before you leave for work.

If you can't come home during the day arrange for someone like a neighbor or pet sitter that can do this for you. Also if you crate her chances are she will cry and howl most of the day as puppies that young will because they will feel abandoned.

Good luck with your new puppy.

Leaving a 6/7 week old puppy home for about 8 hours?

1. Puppies should be with their mother until at least 8 weeks, 9-10 weeks is better. Why? They learn things from their mother/littermates like how to play nicely.
2. Most people with jobs do have to leave their puppies home for that long. Your puppy will need to be in a safe place which means a crate, or in an xpen, or in a safe room where it can't destroy anything/ruin the floor that is baby gated off. The puppy cannot hold it for that long so I'd put some newspaper down in the area furthest from the water dish. Also puppy needs safe chew toys (rubber).
3. If you can possibly have a parent, sibling, neighbor, or friend drop by in the middle of the day to take the puppy outside- it would really help with potty training! The more times your puppy is forced to pee inside because you aren't there to take him out- the harder it will be to potty train him.

Would it be possible to get the puppy on a Friday afternoon so that you have 2 good days of potty training before he has to be left alone? Puppies also get scared when they are first separated from their mom/littermates so if he has to be totally alone without even you it will be even harder for him.

Is it safe to leave a puppy in a room for 8 hours?

Puppies (or adult dogs) should not be left for 8 hours for a number of reasons. They will need to go to the bathroom (depending on their age) several times during that time.Dogs are social animals and it is not natural or healthy for them to be locked up in a room on their own for hours on end.Dogs need mental and physical stimulation, if they don’t have that they will become anxious and destructive.Depending on their age, they may still need several meals per day.If you have work commitments that mean you will be out for 8 hours a day you should arrange for suitable care during that time. Either dog walkers / sitters, kennels, family/friends/neighbours.There are also some fantastic doggy day care centres which help with socialisation and are also a lot more fun for your dog than staying at home on their own.It is important that your dog develops the confidence to be left at home on their own from time to time, so this should be built into their training schedule, but this should never be for more that 3 or 4 hours and only once they are old enough to manage for that long. The Canine Directory - Dog Friendly Guide To The UK - Explore Together - The Canine Directory lists a number of UK based dog related services. If you are not from the UK, you are bound to have an equivalent website which can help you to find a suitable dog sitter/kennel.

I leave my husky puppy alone for about 12 hours every day. Could this affect her health?

Of course it is too long among the many reasons why are a few standouts:Huskies are high energy dogs bred to run long distances After 6 hours dogs need to relieve themselves and take a stretch, mine don't like more than four, but this is often unreasonable. Huskies are very social dogs very loyal to their owner and will have anxiety without your or another friendly human presence  Separation anxiety is why your Husky is destroying your stuff and furniture while you are away. (Unless in a kennel, in which case you should try one out) Could you go 12 hours without a piss, of course not.  Your husky can't eitherCould she go 12 hours without food? Sure, and longer as they are scavengers but I'll bet she is chomping at the bit for that alpo and this isn't helping the anxiety one bit. This day in age you can toss a stone and get a dog sitter to stop in during the day.  If you cannot afford one, you won't be able to afford hip displacement or whatever surgery your dog may need at some point.  Generally speaking bigger dogs can have more frequent problems associated with larger bodies.Cruelty, even born of stupidity is still Cruel Anything longer than 8 hours is too long to leave a dog alone, let alone a Husky!  And that is a big stretch most dog folk and vets I know would certainly say 6 is limit.  The fact is if you're leaving your dog this long you should reconsider having a dog, or making effort to learn to properly care for her.  One option I presume  you don't have is  to have a dog sitter come by and take the dogs out for an hour, let them relieve themselves and run/interact.  Huskies are very high energy, social animals what you are doing is abuse, period.  I am hard pressed to believe that you aren't seeing behavior from your dog that led you to even ask such a question.  Please do something about your dogs inprisonment. (Unless you have her out in some space to run, to which id say those beautiful creatures are escape artists too). Regardless how/where you keep this dog 12 hours is under any circumstance entirely too long, knock it off!

Will my 9 month old puppy be OK if I leave her alone all day (8 hrs) for work? I've never left her for more than 2 hrs and she freaks out when I leave. Upon return she whimpers and runs to me like she thought I abandoned her, even when gone briefly.

Dogs are not puppies by months but by maturity and different dogs mature at different rates. Would you leave a human baby for 9+ hours (you do have travel time to get to and from work) while you worked. “Never” should be your answer.Part of the responsibility of pet ownership it to think of this before you get the puppy. You do not want to crate a puppy for that amount of time either. You would most assuredly create a dog with separation anxiety problems and others. Puppies under that stress will relieve themselves in their crate as well. You might even create a dog that will shred your couch while you are gone if you leave it alone to early and they are not prepared, as your dog has already shown the signs of separation anxiety.Puppies and dogs live in the moment. Until a puppy has grown to the age where you can train it and it will understand that you will return to them, you are not being fair to the dog. The exception to this is when you leave them for a short amount of time, not a working day.As they grow and hear and understand what it means when you say, “I’ll be back.”, they are then old enough to be left alone. You might even create a dog that will shred your couch while you are gone if you leave it alone too early.Options. Find a dog sitter that will come to your house several times a day to let the puppy outside to go potty and have a bit of human time. The other option would be to put your puppy in a facility that has doggy daycare.Neither of these options are free but that is the price of dog ownership. You could also find a friend or family member with a dog that is home during the day that would be willing to let you drop off your puppy for the day. Personally I would pay them with cash or a nice 40 lb of dog food when they need it.If you can’t give your new puppy the care it needs you might consider finding it a new home. Be very careful to check out the person you turn your dog over to. People take dogs and even pay for them and your puppy finds itself in a research lab. Sad but true. You could also contact that breed’s rescue site to try and put you in touch with a foster home near you that might consider taking your baby for the day until it reaches maturity to know, you will be back.I hope this helps.

Can I leave a dog at home alone for 4 hours, walk it, then leave it for another 4 hours for 2 days a week?

You are being very responsible in asking this question before getting a dog and caring enough to make sure it will work. :)

In my opinion, your dog will be ok with that schedule. The best option would be to kennel train your dog so that he/she has a safe secure place to be while you are gone so they do not injure themselves or destroy things in your home. Try to make the kennel a pleasant place for the dog to be by providing treats like raw bones and rawhide (large enough so the dog won't choke on them) in the kennel. To get your dog used to it start by just having a kennel left open in an area that you are in a lot with a comfy bed and some safe toys and treats in it and let your dog adjust to it gradually. Many people do not think so but dogs feel safe in their kennels when introduced properly because it feels "den like" to them.

A dog over 5 months old will be able to hold it's bladder for four hours at a time, but I would not try to go over that amount unless your dog is an adult and even then going potty every 4-6 hours at the most will prevent bladder infections. Also, it is good for the dog to be able to get out and stretch (but make sure the kennel is large enough for the dog to stand without it's head touching the top and turn around or the kennel is too small for the dog) for awhile during the day so the walks would be perfect.

Hope the info helps and good luck with your new dog!

Is it okay to leave a 2 month old puppy in a crate for 8 hours a day, 3 times a week?

No, as stated by others … It is not appropriate to leave a young puppy crated or left alone for long periods of time while at school, work, or away from home.“Crate Training” is an appropriate option, but with frequent potty-breaks throughout the day as your puppy grows. A potty-trained puppy or grown dog learns to use an open-crate as their ‘safe-quiet-zone’. The open-crate soon becomes their favorite place to nap or a quiet place to rest when frightened or not feeling well. You didn’t mention what breed or size your puppy is, or will grow to be. My two Chihuahuas (3.5 lb.and 5.3 lb.) are litter box trained, using wood pellets (not kitty litter). You can research the practice online, if your puppy will remain a small indoor dog.https://dogs.thefuntimesguide.co...Another option is a “potty patch”, which is a grass pad (appropriate for your adult dog’s size). There are several brands out there with varied price-points, using artificial turf or real grass. The following is only a photo of one brand out there: Official Potty Patch Website - Now Your Pet Can Go When He Needs ToResearch, research, research. Having a pet is a highly rewarding venture, but one must remember that it is also a full-time commitment for the duration of your pet’s lifetime.Hopefully, you will get some help. Good luck!

Can you leave a Bernese Mountain Dog alone for 8 hours, 5 days a week while at work?

Of course you can. Beware of leaving puppies alone, but once the dog is housebroken, it will be fine. Until that time, alternate going home at lunch to check on the dog. Just make sure to socialize the dog (while its young) at night or on weekends, as Bernese have a tendency to be over-protective.

Like Dog_Trainer said, be careful of hip dysplasia. If the puppy X-rays clean, be careful with the dog until it's fully grown - don't let kids "ride" the dog, or lean on it, etc. Ours did get it, and even in its mildest form, it isn't something you want your dog to go through.

Is it okay to leave a Labrador Retriever at home alone for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week?

Not if he is too young below 6 months of age I suppose. A very important note:- before leaving your dog alone for 8 hours a good morning exercise is extremely extremely important for at least 30–40 minutes . For example Everyday I get up early and go straight to dog park with my dog. There I meet other dog owners and my dog plays with their dogs and releases his energy. Then he sleeps almost entire day in the house.Yes you can leave your dog. That’s totally normal. Take few points into consideration before leaving your dog alone in the house. Basically puppy proof your house. These things I did in my starting months when I left him(pup) alone. He is 1 year and 6 months now , very calm and no problem dog. But he was super energetic puppy once who chewed few things .No dangerous object should be kept around or at a reachable distance. Like chocolates, sharp objects, garlic/onions etc.Keep his food or treats out of his reach. Your bread , cookies and anything eatable also. He can eat them all which can cause food bloat in his stomach. It’s nice to inform the neighbors casually that you leave your dog at home for any sort of emergency situations. It’s nice to have a portable dog toilet like “pet loo” in his younger age. Puppies pee a lot and my golden retriever pup used his pet loo till he turned 11 months. Just before his first birthday he stopped peeing on his toilet. PET LOO-my saviorDo not leave anything expensive outside like shoes , sunglasses or anything chewable for him that you’ll regret afterwards. I have lost my sunglasses and a pair of beautiful boots. Now he never chews but teething time was terrible for my shoes.Start leaving him for 1 hour then 2–3 hours for first few days. You can go shopping or for any kind of work. Then increase the time. I did the same. It worked .If you can afford a dog walker then it will be the best thing . He/she will come and walk your dog for 30 minutes in the evening/afternoon time. Have fun with you furbaby and All the best !!!
