Is It Possible To Lose Inches And Not Weight

How is it possible to lose couple of inches and not lose weight?

Losing inches around your waist not only makes you feel better, but may also improve your health. And, lucky for you, that unhealthy belly fat comes off faster than fat stored on your hips and legs. However, while you may be anxious to lose pounds and inches from your waist in a matter of days, you'll need to take weight off slowly, making changes to how you eat and exercise to ensure you're losing fat and not muscle. Before you start working on trimming your mid-section, consult your doctor to discuss the right techniques that fit your specific health needs.Make the Right Food ChoicesCalories are important, but so are the foods you eat. Certain types of food refined carbs such as white bread and sweets, high-fat meats such as bacon and sausage and trans fats such as those found in baked goods and fried foods are linked to belly fat. To lose inches from your waist, skip these types of foods. Instead, eat more whole grains, fruits and veggies, healthy proteins such as fish, poultry, lean red meat, eggs, beans and soy and healthy fats such as olive oil, safflower oil and various nuts and seeds.Exercise to Lose Inches Around the WaistRegular exercise can help you shed inches from your waist. At a minimum, you should do 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise most days of the week, and 60 minutes is even better. A fast-paced walk, a low-impact aerobics class, a bike ride or laps in the pool all work.Do strength-training twice a week on alternate days to help tone and shape not only your waist, but your whole body.

Why do you lose inches but not weight?

During weight loss, it is not uncommon to be losing inches not weight. Some people fear that if they are not seeing a reduction of pounds on the scale, then weight loss is not happening. In all actuality, it’s quite the opposite. While you may not be seeing a decrease in pounds, you are likely seeing an increase in muscle, leading to a decrease in overall inches.Muscle vs. FatThe key here is to understand the difference in muscle and fat. Because a pound is a pound no matter what you are measuring, one pound of fat is equal to one pound of fat. The common saying, “muscle weighs more than fat, ” is wrong. A pound is a pound, no matter what you measure. However, fat and muscle are composed of different substances, look different, have differing effects on the body and take up varying amounts of space in the body. Fat takes up more space in the body and has a lumpy appearance. Muscle, on the other hand, is lean and smooth. For visual purposes, picture a lean steak equal to the size of a regulation sized baseball. Now, picture approximately three times that much jello in a bowl. If these ingredients were placed in your body, would you prefer the lean, compact muscle or the jiggling bowl of jello? A person weighing 150 pounds, with 14% body fat will look much leaner than a person who weighs 120 pounds with 35% body fat.Losing Inches Instead of WeightNow that you understand the different characteristics of fat and muscle, you are probably likely to reconsider your weight loss goals. Losing inches doesn’t seem so shabby when it’s put into perspective. The most common culprit for a loss of inches rather than a loss of pounds is that of muscle development. When fat is burned and muscle is replaced, your body may stay the exact same weight. However, you have replaced lumpy, jiggly and unhealthy amounts of fat with lean, solid muscle. An equal amount of muscle will take up approximately half as much space as the same amount of fat.5 Surprising Habits that Accelerate Fat Loss

Losing Inches but not weight on scale?

It's normal. It's because you're losing fat and replacing it with muscle, which weighs more than fat. If you want to lose weight try doing mostly cardio, running, swimming, jump rope is great, aerobics... Also don't use weights to work out, use your own body weight. This way you'll tone your muscles and you'll lose weight. Also adjust your eating habits. Eat really clean, and often. Eat something very small every 2 hours to keep your metabolism high. And by eat I mean bowl of cereal for breakfast with small glass of orange juice. Two hours later a nonfat cup of yogurt with granola (a small one). For lunch eat an 6-8 oz chicken breast with a small salad and water. Or a fish fillet of similar size. Then two hours later have a hand full of mixed nuts or a granola bar. Eat dinner early, like 6. And make it a similar meal to lunch. You can also have a small sandwich for either of these meals. Then before bed have some milk and cookies. Like 3 cookies and a small glass of skim milk. It's all about portion control and what you put in your body. So stick to organic stuff. Not eating will cause your metabolism to slow down and your body will start to store fat. But eating often will speed up your metabolism and you'll have lots of energy to fuel your work outs. So don't think not eating will make you lose weight. The hardest part of losing weight will be preparing your food so don't let your self get lazy and eat McDonald's... Ever ever ever. And stay motivated and be patient. There is no quick fix, but if you keep it up by this summer you will look super sexyyyyyy... One more thing, eat lots of fibrous foods, high fiber bread, lots of greens, lentil soup once a day is the best, etc... This will make you poop (sorry about the grossness). And that will make your stomach clear it's self more often and you won't be clogged up and you'll actually be lighter when you step on the scale. Good luck ! And be proud of your self!!! You've taken the first step to changing your entire life for the better!!!

Losing inches but not weight...why?

First: Losing inches probably = losing fat.
Also: Just because you're not losing weight does not mean you're not losing fat.

Your weight is not exactly as important as your body fat percentage. Just as others have said, muscle is denser than fat. That is why many body builders, though they are in good shape, are technically "overweight" if you were to do the math.

Keep track of your percent body fat. And keep celebrating those lost inches.

Why am I losing weight but not inches?

How noticeable weight loss is through measurement or just observation has more to do with the distribution of the loss over the body than it does with the amount of weight. You could easily notice a 20 pound loss if it was, for example, all in the abdomen. However, if it was spread over your body from the elbows to the knees, you would likely not notice it.

You probably have many more pounds to lose because fat is generally builds from the waistline up and down the body covering everything from internal organs to marbling in your muscles (intramuscular) to subcutaneous deposits (under the skin). Because fat loss begins receding from the outer reaches of the body and finishes around the waistline the first 20 pounds may not be noticeable but the last 20 pounds, which will come from a much smaller area around the waist, will be.

When people lose fat they may notice the loss in many way from finding hard surfaces increasingly uncomfortable to sit on to a sloshing around in their abdomens if the fat has increased the volume of the peritoneum. They may feel bony places they hadn't noticed before including ribs or the coccyx (tail bone), etc. But, certainly they will eventually notice clothes are loosening, their mirror reflection is slimming, and, best of all, their friends are paying them compliments about their new svelt appearance.

Good luck and good health!!

I'm gaining weight but losing inches?

Your weight may be just muscle. Muscle ways more than fat, so that could be why the scale is going up, but your getting leaner. Since your a female, then I wouldn't aim for actual abs, just a nice flat stomach. A flat stomach is so much easier to get then abs.

If you want actual abs, then you have to get your percentage body fat to a low number, and you have to muscle almost everywhere.

For a flat stomach, watch if eating is making your stomach blow up. If it is, then stick to many smaller meals, which won't make your stomach stick out too much. The thing is to shrink it. Then you also have to lose the bulge there. It depends if you have an all around bulge, an upper one or a lower one. Most women have a lower one so the thing that helps is reverse crunches using your legs. Like the "bicycle". Google "types of crunches" or "reverse crunches" for more information about these.

Good Luck!

How can you lose inches without losing weight?

You can by gaining muscle mass and losing fat at the same time. Given that fat is less dense than muscle it has a bigger volume for the same mass. Thus replacing fat mass by the same muscle mass results in losing body measurement inches/centimeters and keeping the whole body weight. You can achieve that by weight training and a proper diet.
