Is It Safe To Ota Update My Android While It

Is it safe to update my Android with a software update?

Absolutely, It only gets bricked if you’ve done something like rooting. If it does brick your phone, it would be extremely rare, and nothing to worry about, and would be covered under your phone’s warranty. If you are still worried, back up your phone to your computer, but it is not really worth the hassle. Also updating your phone from your computer is probably safer.Hope this helps

If I root my Android phone will I get OTA updates or do I have to update the kernel manually?

Rooting your phone will not break your ability to receive OTA updates from Verizon. Rooting your phone is simply a means to give yourself deeper access to the Android OS. Essentially you move from User privileges to Administrator privileges on the phone. If you do receive and accept an OTA update you will most likely lose root and you'll have to root your phone again. That's much more a nuisance than a deterrent however. One of the main reasons people root their phones, however, is because they want to install a custom ROM which is a version of Android modified by a developer in some manner. Often carrier-installed apps may be removed, tweaks will be done to speed up the OS or overclock the processor, etc. If you install a custom ROM on your phone you will not receive carrier-based OTA updates.Mentioned previously, XDA Developers forums is a tremendous resource for all things Android.

Update Android Without WiFi?

OTA doesn't mean that it shouldn't be downloaded over WiFi.
OTA means that its simply being sent from the carrier.

A work around for rooted uses is to find your phone's official OTA update ROM and flash it though your recovery system.

If you aren't rooted and you can't/don't want to root your phone, your best bet is to go to a free local wi-fi location such as McDonalds or Starbucks, then update it these usually take about 5 minutes.

Can I get a notification for the Android L OTA update even though I am not connected to the Internet? How could I get the OTA notification?

The sole purpose if buying a Android device is to get connected to Google ecosystem which obviously requires Internet connection. You need internet and probably a wi-fi will do better for downloading whole update package. Also don't wait so eagerly for lollipop as reviews of 2nd generation Moto E with lollipop are just average due to slow performance by OS.

Does we lose our all data when we update Android software?

A typical update to the Android OS of a device is accomplished by a process commonly known as an OTA (Over the Air) update, whereas the carrier or device OEM provides periodic updates which are downloaded by the user. The downloaded package, in turn, is verified for authenticity and integrity by the Android OS being updated, and the package is installed to the device by way of the stock recovery. A typical OTA update writes to the /system, /boot, /recovery, /modem, & /vendor partitions of the device and, under normal circumstances, files and information contained on the /userdata partition are left untouched. So, to answer your question, the answer is no — data is not normally lost during an orthodox OTA update of the Android OS. However, it is advised to ALWAYS maintain a full backup of your personal files (userdata) prior to installing an OTA update, in the event something goes wrong during the process. Neither the Android OS nor its OTA updates are infallible. There is always the slight possibility for error and, as such, it's always best to err on the side of caution, especially if you have sensitive, important, or otherwise crucial data stored on your Android device. Keeping a backup of your files on an external micro SD card is a good option, as is maintaining a backup to your Mac or PC.

When can I update my Galaxy S to Android Software 2.2 Froyo?

Depends on where you're located:

Apparantly, the UK will be receiving this first, in November (specific date not set) and will happen OTA (over the air - wirelessly). You'll wake up one morning to find it waiting for you - I suppose.

As for the rest of the world (USA in my case) unknown, for now.

Sorry there is no specific answer.

What is the worst possible outcome of updating a rooted Android device?

Worst possible outcome: The update would brick your phone. Now if you root a device, chances are you have modified some inaccessible system setting or deleted some system apps to cater your daily use. This differs from person to person, as rooting is a personal choice and does not come as an out of the box experience. When you update the phone as such, there may occur some core system-level conflicts which ultimately brick your phone. As a personal experience, I tried to update my nexus which happened to running on a custom kernel that i flashed before was stuck at bootloop. Also whenever a rooted phone gets an OTA update, not all but some companies make protocols to restrict the update to unrooted phonesSome manufacturers don't allow OTA update if your phone is rooted. Some like Oneplus say you can update even if you have rooted the phone, but to my experience I was never able to update my rooted Oneplus X through OTA. There are also some companies which provide root access as default.Even while you are flashing Custom -ROMs, it is preferred to do a factory reset and cache wipe before flashing anything different than that you are running. Because you cant know for certain which app gets affected by rooting and in what way.
