Is It Wrong To Let My Puppy Sleep In The Bed With Me

Should I let a puppy sleep on my bed with me?

My dog has always slept in my bed, with no housetraining problems whatsoever, it actually made it easier. I love having her there. The only problem might stem from demands for morning cuddles and you have to use the bathroom.

The crate should always be a nice place to be, a den rather than a prison. Perhaps if it was closer to your bed he wouldn't mind it so much?

He probably has to be alone for a few hours every weekday, right? To make up for this, he should get more social contact when you are home. Sleeping with him is a good place to start.

You won't really spoil him if that's the way the rules are. Just stick to the rules you put down, it's giving in that spoils him. Maybe you can introduce the rule that he's only allowed in your bed in those last few hours of the night? Then there's also the dog's size, how big is he going to be? If he'll stay small then it shouldn't be a problem, but otherwise...

Is it bad to let my puppy sleep in my bed?

dogs are creatures of habit, what you allow now you have to allow always. Your dog will live for apx 10-18 years depending on the breed.
So long as you can for-see in 18 years time that your dog will be welcome on your bed then that won't be a problem.

The only other disadvantage of a dog sleeping on your bed is it gives them the impression that they are equal to you and that can be a problem when you try to train your puppy.

I always raise my pup's to sleep in a crate beside my bed, I can touch them to give comfort but they know their place in the hierarchy. Later I have allowed them on my bed on occasion but this is by invitation only.
When my hubby was sick and dying I can tell you the added complication of a dog on the bed would have been a nightmare.

Teach from a pup to sleep in their own bed, then later you can invite them up but it won't be taken for granted, too easy. Yes sleeping for naps will confuse him.

Is it bad to let my puppy sleep with me?

Mine sleep with me, but they know I am in charge. As long as they aren't having behaviors like, guarding you and not letting other people in the bed with you, then I don't see an issue with it. Don't will dogs/wolves all sleep together? Just be sure you go to bed first, and call them to bed after you, because the top dog would have its choice of where to sleep. And don't let them crowd you out of the bed! =)

Should I let my pitbull puppy sleep in bed with me?

I bought a Pitbull puppy .. I've been visiting/playing with him since day 1 but just got to take him home yesterday at 5 weeks. He slept in my bed last night. At 5lbs-No problem. After doing some research, part of me wants to crate him at night to teach him who is boss as well as to get him to like his crate more, however .. He is in the crate for a few hours during the day (which at this point he hates). Would crating him at night be too much time in there? Although when I'm home he is with me always playing eating etc, .. I worry that when he is big he'll feel dominant and that my bed is his territory, however with the proper training could it be no problem? They say to teach the dog "Off" commands, but I would feel bad if I ever didn't let him sleep with me had that become his habit.

Input please and thanks !
