Is it legal to have a pet deer in Kentucky?
A baby deer and it's mom wandered into my grandpa's yard and as soon as the adult deer saw him, it ran off, leaving the baby on its own. The baby deer continues to follow my grandpa around and it's been hours and the adult deer has not come back. I want to know if it's legal because, one, I'll admit I really want a pet deer and two, I hope it's mother comes back but if not, my dad as years of experience raising wild animals and if the adult doesn't come back, we are prepared to take it in if it's legal.

Is hunting baby deer illegal?
Yes, hunting baby deer is illegal. And immoral - because - baby deer have no meat on them. Why hunt something you cannot eat? This is totally illogical. Most deer - by the time hunting season opens - have definite visual charastics of age and size. Young male yearlings will typically only have a small button on their heads where older mature males will have actual antlers. Young females are noticably smaller than adult does. Some secies like moose - it can be 2-3 years before the young males are recognizable from the females. Many states will have antler restrictions and not allowd the hunting of 'anterless' deer. This exempts all females and young sub adult males. The penealty is quite steep where I live. Fish and Game impounds your plane, car, truck, or ATV you used to arrive at the hunting site - along with all your camping equipment, rifle, ammo - and clothing....... it all goes to public auction. And - you still get the $5,000 fine and 6 months jail time for each animal you shot that was out of season, or, had no open season. Even if you are not convicted - getting your stuff back is at the discretion of the agency that confiscated it......... so if you got off of the fine or jail time on a technicallity - you still dont get your stuff back!
